Ang Liga action resumed on Sunday at the La Salle Science and Technology Complex in Canlubang, with a tripleheader seeing contrasting victories for Emilio Aguinaldo College, the University of the Philippines, and the Ateneo de Manila University.
The Generals finally got on the winning track by defeating fellow cellar-dwellers Perpetual, 2-1 in the lone morning matchup.
Nestor Nuestro's squad managed to keep things steady after Joshua Olave was dismissed for violent conduct in the 35th minute, keeping things scoreless into the halftime break. They did manage to break through in the 54th minute from the spot, as Marvin Lianza converted the penalty. EAC would then double the lead in the 78th minute, with Jeremy Banares' shot from outside.
The Altas do manage to pull one back three minutes later, thanks to John Christopher Erive. Unfortunately, Perpetual could not find an equalizer in the subsequent minutes, allowing EAC to snatch their first three points.
In the early afternoon matchup, UP beat UST, 4-2, coming from behind twice to snatch the victory and put themselves in a good position to secure a postseason berth, while jeopardizing their opposition's hopes.
After a first half that ended in a goalless deadlock, the second half produced the necessary offensive fireworks. The Golden Booters struck first on a Dionisio Busmion penalty in the 52nd minute, but the Maroons equalized with a Christian Lapas penalty four minutes later. UST would reclaim the lead, thanks to Conrado Dimacali, but in a span of six minutes, UP took the lead for good, thanks to Migui Blanco in the 69th minute and substitute Fidel Tacardon in the 75th minute.
Compounding the problems for UST is Zaldy Abraham getting sent off in the 85th minute as he handled the ball outside the area. With the personnel advantage, UP secured all three points as Tacardon secured his brace in the 90th minute.
With the brace, Tacardon now has six goals this season, which leads the tournament.
Capping off the triple-header is a 2-1 come-from-behind victory by the Blue Eagles against Lyceum, with Jarvey Gayoso nabbing both goals.
The Pirates actually managed to squeak ahead after a James Paul Dorego penalty in the 74th minute, but the UAAP champions tied things up three minutes, with Gayoso poking in the rebound off a Mellex Andes save attempt of Sam Lim's shot.
The UAAP MVP then secured the game-winner in the 85th mnute from the spot, as the referee caught a handball inside the area.
With the victory, Ateneo keeps themselves within striking distance of the top four position that assure postseason passage with their second win in the tournament. Lyceum now has suffered back-to-back losses since starting off the campaign with four straight victories.
