EVERY blood, sweat and tear shed during the previous season leads to this moment.

While championships are won on the court, legacy is built off of it – and the 2026 Collegiate Press Corps Awards (CPC) Night presented by Strong Group Athletics will be where Philippine collegiate sports' brightest stars cement theirs.

The awards night, which will put the finest student-athletes and personalities of UAAP Season 88 and NCAA Season 101 in the spotlight, will be held on June 29, 2026 at the Discovery Suites Manila in Ortigas, Pasig City.

The Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Year presented by Converge, which was voted and deliberated by the esteemed group of journalists from both national print and online media, will be among the highlights of the awards night.

Aside from this, the men’s and women’s basketball Mythical Five teams will also be revealed.

Presented by SGA anew, the men’s and women’s volleyball players from both the UAAP and the NCAA will likewise be feted in the season-ending event.

And for the second straight year, the Football Players of the Year for both UAAP and NCAA supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will be announced.

Of course, it will not only be the players who will be given their honors in the annual collegiate body ceremony supported by Go For Gold, D’Generals and Buffalos’ Wings ‘N Things.

The top UAAP and NCAA coaches of the year for basketball and volleyball brought by the San Miguel Corporation will be given well-deserved recognition as well for steering their respective teams to the top of the collegiate world.

The CPC will also hand a special citation to Ateneo de Manila University center Kacey dela Rosa for her impact not just for the Blue Eagles and the UAAP, but also for Gilas Pilipinas in international 5-on-5 and 3x3 basketball.

“Every year, new stars emerge and legends arrive to lord it over the famed collegiate courts and fields. And this year is no different with the CPC continuing its relentless drive to champion collegiate sports and recognize the student-athletes behind every championship and glory – once more and always,” said CPC president John Bryan Ulanday of The Philippine Star.

Selwyn Mamon brings experience to PMNFT U-22

For Far Eastern University striker Selwyn Mamon, the upcoming Southeast Asian Games isn’t just another tournament—it’s a stage to prove that the Philippines can finally break through in the under-23 regional competition.

The SEA Games have long been a challenging arena for Philippine football, demanding intensity and physical output far beyond collegiate leagues. 

Despite the country’s persistent efforts, a podium finish has remained elusive. 

Hopes though are high that the tide might finally turn.

At 21, the Iloilo City native brings a wealth of experience to the national team. 

A UAAP champion in both high school and collegiate divisions with FEU, Mamon has also earned five international caps for the Philippines under-23 team. He’s ready to channel all that experience into tangible results on the pitch.

“Each day ng training namin nag-i-improve po talaga yung team chemistry even though hindi pa po complete talaga yung team,” said the FEU standout who has seven goals so far in the Tamaraws’ UAAP Season 88 campaign. 

“Nandun na po yung team connection and communication.”

Mamon knows that success at the SEA Games depends on how quickly players from various local and foreign teams can gel. But he also sees every experience—good or bad—as a building block for the future.

“Every experience po, may it be international or local, napakalaking advantage po yun na talagang magagamit sa future games. Sa mga small wins doon po na-bi-build confidence ko maglaro,” said Mamon.

The Philippine U-23 team is aiming for gold in the SEA Games, building on a strong showing earlier this year when they reached the semifinals of the ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup 2025, finishing fourth. 

Mamon's focus is clear: turn potential into results.

“Goal is to win po talaga. Hindi naman po impossible yun. One game at a time lang,” he said. 

“I’ll do my best to contribute goals para sa team. Lahat ng experience and skills na I acquired, I’ll show them every game.”

Confident Dov Cariño ready for SEAG action with PMNFT U-22

Ateneo de Manila University midfielder Dov Cariño is on a mission: to help the Philippine Men’s Under-23 National Team finally secure a gold medal at this month’s 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. 

Already seasoned from competing in major regional tournaments like the 32nd SEA Games and the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024, Cariño is determined to turn the country’s long-standing near-misses into triumph.

Cariño, who has netted five goals for the Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament, praised the squad’s atmosphere and training quality, highlighting the players’ readiness for the challenge ahead.

“Preparations for the SEA Games have been great. Training has been top quality, and the squad’s morale is very positive,” said the 21-year-old standout. 

“The goal of the U-23 team this SEA Games is definitely to go home with gold. We believe that we have the capacity to do so, and anything less would be disappointing.”

It’s been a whirlwind few months for Cariño, who has been a consistent presence in international U-23 competitions such as the ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup 2025 and the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, all while fulfilling his commitments with Ateneo.

As the Blue Eagles’ captain, he has steered the team to fourth in the standings, keeping them on track for a Final Four appearance when Season 88 resumes next month. Off the pitch, Cariño also balances his academic responsibilities while attending the national team’s training camp.

“Playing in UAAP this year has helped me get physically and mentally ready for these international tournaments,” said Cariño.

“The intensity of the games has helped me get in shape to represent the country and given me a chance to work on parts of my game that needed improvement."

Fortunately, Cariño’s packed schedule has been manageable. 

“Luckily, none of the three commitments clash. We played our last UAAP game just before camp started,” he shared. 

“Academically, I’ve still been able to study for and take my finals to the best of my abilities. I’m making sure everything is on track in school while focusing on preparing for the SEA Games.”

The U-23 men’s division has yet to see the Philippines reach the podium despite numerous attempts. Cariño is confident this batch of players can break the streak.

Personally, he’s ready to give everything to make it happen.

“I will give the team my all when I get the chance to play,” he said. 

“I want to leave the field knowing I’ve done everything I could. Every game, I’ll play with the mindset that I’ve given my absolute best.”

With women's football title defended, Rebosura sets sights on Futsal World Cup

From humble beginnings on the indoor court of Payatas to the grand stage of the UAAP, Regine Rebosura’s college football career ended on the highest note possible—just before she stepped onto the world’s biggest futsal stage.

Rebosura, who came in as a second-half substitute, scored in the 90+3rd minute to seal Far Eastern University’s 2-0 win over De La Salle University in the final of the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament last Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Her goal helped the Lady Tamaraws complete a perfect campaign and claim their fourth consecutive championship.

If that wasn’t enough, she also earned the Best Midfielder award—her second time receiving the honor after previously claiming it in Season 85.

Known for making the most of every opportunity to shine, Rebosura reflected on the daily challenges that made her triumph even more fulfilling.

“Sobrang saya,” said the 24-year-old from Quezon City. “Sobrang worth it lahat kase napag-manage namin kasabay ng academics namin. Training sa morning, gym sa hapon — yung pagod namin sobrang worth it.”

What made Rebosura’s happy ending even more remarkable was that she had spent time away from her FEU teammates while preparing in Spain with the Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team for the 2025 FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.

Moreover, the night before the UAAP final, her name was confirmed among the 14 players who would represent the country in the inaugural World Cup edition on home soil. She initially struggled to compose herself, but ultimately focused on making up for lost time.

“Para sakin, yung second half medyo nag-a-adjust ako,” said the newly crowned four-time champion. “Medyo kinakabahan kasi galing po ako Spain. Mahirap mag-adjust. Alam ko sa sarili ko kaya ko pa and then pinangako ko sa mga teammates and mga coaches ko na kaya kong bumawi.”

Rebosura’s journey has been remarkable; she could not have imagined that kicking a ball on a simple court would be the first step toward four UAAP championships, crucial goals across three finals, and two individual awards.

Yet, there could be no greater validation of her versatility, hard work, and talent than her inclusion as the only collegiate player in the final Filipina5 squad for the World Cup.

The Filipina5 are grouped with Poland (November 21), Morocco (November 24), and Argentina (November 27), with the top two teams in each of the four pools advancing to the knockout stage.

As an underdog throughout her life, Rebosura hopes the nationals will surprise their opponents.

She is now calling on local fans to rally behind her and her teammates as they prepare for a historic homecourt debut.

“Yun po lumabas na po yung final 14,” she said. “Kasama po ako sa list na maglalaro po sa World Cup. Suportahan nyo po kami maglaro from November 21. Dito po gaganapin.”

FEU, La Salle resume battle for UAAP women's football supremacy

In a championship clash between two teams carrying contrasting momenta, defending champion Far Eastern University and challenger De La Salle University are set to battle for the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament crown for the fifth straight edition Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Riding the high of an eight-win elimination round, top-seeded FEU is embracing the chance to secure a fourth consecutive title.

La Salle defeated FEU back in Season 81, 2–0, behind the exploits of Sara Castañeda and Shai Del Campo.

Since then, the Lady Tamaraws have turned the rivalry around, capturing the championships in Seasons 85 (2–1, AET), 86 (2–1, AET), and 87 (3–2), with Inday Tolentin leading the charge.

Now, FEU aims to extend its UAAP-record 13 titles to 14 and spark another potential treble run for the school.

Their dominance this year was evident when they clinched their fifth straight final appearance with a 2–0 win over the University of Santo Tomas on October 18 — even with three matches still left on their second-round slate.

For Lady Tamaraws head coach Let Dimzon, the focus is on staying sharp and not underestimating the Lady Booters despite defeating them twice in the eliminations — 2–1 on October 4 and again on November 5.

The decorated head coach stressed that the one-off nature of the final means anything can happen, and discipline will be key.

“Although nakalaro na namin ang La Salle, we need to be focused,” said the former national team mentor. “Hindi kami mag-re-relax dahil lang natalo namin ang La Salle for two games. Kailangan talaga, we need to strengthen our attacks, yung discipline in both attack and defending, and then also yung rotation ng players.”

FEU enters the title match with three Golden Boot contenders: Judie Arevalo, the current leader with seven goals; and Regine Rebosura and Marinell Cristobal, who have five goals each.

Meanwhile, La Salle arrives in the final as the underdog after a rough second round that saw losses to Ateneo de Manila University, FEU, and UST. Still, Season 87 Rookie of the Year and Golden Boot co-winner Dani Tanjangco has been a bright spot with three goals this season.

Despite the odds, Lady Booters head coach Alvin Ocampo has challenged his team to rise above past heartbreaks and break a streak of runner-up finishes to FEU, as they chase the program’s first title since Season 81.

“Accept the pressure,” said Ocampo. “Play with passion and love for the game and genuine enjoyment will come. Mental toughness teaches you to bounce back. We will compete.”

If La Salle manages to flip the script and dethrone FEU, it will capture its 12th championship in the women’s division.

The Lady Booters have been in this position before — most notably in Season 80, when they stunned top-seeded UST in the final despite being swept by the Tigresses in the eliminations.

Uwan forces UAAP postponements Sunday

The UAAP announced on Saturday afternoon that it is postponing its matches scheduled to take place in Metro Manila on November 9.

In light of the inclement weather brought by Severe Tropical Storm 'Uwan', the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) announces that all scheduled basketball, collegiate men's football, and high school volleyball games on Sunday, November 9, 2025, are postponed.

The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, fans, and everyone involved is our top priority. We strongly advise everyone to take all necessary precautions, stay indoors if possible, and ensure the safety of your family and loved ones during this severe weather event.

The basketball playdate at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum includes the much-anticipated rivalry between Ateneo and La Salle, as well as the neighborly matchup between UST and FEU.

Football was supposed to conclude its schedule for 2025 with a doubleheader at the football field inside the University of the Philippines, with UST and FEU seeking to solidify a run to the postseason, while La Salle also seeking to keep its hopes alive against an already qualified UP.

The Blue Eagle Gym would have been set to host a full schedule of high school volleyball, with a tasty duel between UST and NUNS on the girls side being the main feature.

This development comes a day after it announced tweaks to its schedule for both swimming and athletics, which are set to continue its slate of activities at New Clark City tomorrow.

University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University delivered one of the most thrilling matches of the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women's Football Tournament, canceling each other out anew, this time in a 3-3 stalemate on Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.

This marked the second draw between UST and Ateneo this season, following a 1-1 stalemate last Saturday that concluded round one of the eliminations.

Celina Salazar gave the Blue Eagles an early advantage, connecting with KC Zalamea to put their side ahead 15 minutes into the game.

The Lady Booters quickly responded as Gelydile Anonuevo tapped in the first equalizer after Stephanie Logastua’s initial shot bounced off the post.

Ateneo regained the lead in the 22nd minute through Jada Bicierro’s well-timed header, only for Stephanie Logastua to level the match once more in the 36th minute with a composed finish, making it 2–2.

Just before halftime, Bicierro completed her brace, scoring in the 44th minute to give Ateneo a narrow lead heading into the second half.

“We made a new system of attack,” said Blue Eagles head coach Bob Manlulo. “Let's say we were able to convert three goals, but the problem was we gave easy goals to UST because we allowed them to gain possession. So, I guess we have to regroup again and plan things to be more of an attacking team rather than a defensive one.

“Hopefully we can get back another win for us to have this psychological boost. If we cannot reach the finals, at least we can have a decent result for the season," he added.

However, UST brought the match back to level terms one last time as Christy Logastua put the ball in the back of the net, ensuring that both the Lady Booters and the Blue Eagles would share a point each.

With both teams now having five points in the standings, UST remains third due to a better goal difference of -1, while Ateneo sits fourth with a -4 goal difference.

“We shared the same points,” said Lady Booters coach Marjo Allado. “It’s better than a loss because they were leading. Our purpose was to be the first to score and to extend our lead. UST dominated in the last few minutes, but Ateneo, when they attack, is very hard to stop, especially with their corner kicks.

"Overall, both teams were tired, but whoever had that winning mentality would try to last," he added.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, October 18, at the same venue.

UST will face defending champion Far Eastern University at 4 p.m., while Ateneo will aim for its first win of the second round against University of the Philippines at 6:30 p.m.

Anito stars in FEU triumph over UE

Rookie Jerby Anito stepped up for defending champion Far Eastern University in a 2-0 victory over the University of the East in the ongoing UAAP Season 88 Men’s Football Tournament on Thursday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.

The homegrown midfielder broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, slotting in his second goal of the season after Czam Acuesta’s initial attempt failed to reach the back of the net.

Anito continued his stellar performance just seven minutes later, setting up the Tamaraws’ second goal with a perfect ball inside the box that Theo Libarnes headed past UE keeper Chrisjohn Tambilawan.

With the win, FEU forced a triple tie on top of the table with the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University, all holding seven points and a goal difference of +3. The Fighting Maroons were scheduled to play later in the evening.

“I think we dominated and controlled the game today,” said FEU head coach Jake Murallo. "From the first half medyo nahirapan kami, pero sa second half nakuha namin 'yung play namin at nakapag-adjust naman kami.

"Ang daming player na wala—our two red cards—and some players like Mon Diansuy nagkasakit, so very proud ako kay Jet Fabrigas sa unang clean sheet niya."

("I think we dominated and controlled the game today from the first half despite our struggles. In the second half, we got to execute our plays and we were able to adjust. We're shorthanded due to suspensions, and some players like Mon Diansuy were not feeling well. So, I'm proud of Jetrick Fabrigas on his clean sheet.")

Both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, with neither side managing to convert chances into a goal.

FEU had a promising sequence in the 21st minute, but the attack fizzled out before UE could clear the ball.

The Tamaraws, however, found their rhythm in the second half, converting their relentless pressure into two decisive goals to seal the win.

On the other hand, UE had its share of opportunities through Bernard Magallon and Francis Maturan, but FEU goalkeeper Jet Fabrigas stood tall—most notably stopping Maturan’s rocket attempt in the 63rd minute.

The Red Warriors remain rooted at the bottom of the standings with zero points and a -6 goal difference.

FEU will next face Ateneo on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the same venue, while UE will wrap up its first-round campaign against the University of Santo Tomas (5 pts, 0 GD) on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

UAAP Football Commissioner's Office releases Statement

The UAAP on Wednesday morning shared this statement from its Commissioner's Office for Football, which is led by Rely San Agustin.

Statement reads as follows: 

The UAAP Season 88 Football Commissioner’s Office would like to clarify recent reports circulating online regarding some officials who have officiated matches in the collegiate men’s and women’s divisions in Season 88.

In the past few days, reports suggested that three officials had been suspended due to certain calls made during recent matches. The Commissioner’s Office wishes to clarify that this is not the case.

The non-selection of head referees Meliton Pelayo and Mick Jon Pineda, as well as assistant referee Annalou Arrogante, for upcoming matches is not a suspension. Instead, it serves as a cooling-off period between the officials and certain teams.

All three remain active members of the refereeing pool and are expected to officiate matches again in the future.

The UAAP, in collaboration with the Philippine Football Federation, continually reviews refereeing performances across all collegiate and high school division matches to ensure fairness and improve officiating standards.

Please note that any decisions or sanctions issued by the Commissioner’s Office—whether involving officials, coaches, or student-athletes—apply only to UAAP matches and do not affect external leagues.

Finally, the Commissioner’s Office appeals to fans on social media to refrain from publicly shaming referees online.

Officials play a crucial role in the smooth operation of league matches.

While their decisions may not always satisfy teams or fans, these calls are consistently reviewed to help improve the performance of referees and the overall officiating pool throughout the season.

Angel Egay delivered when it mattered most, leading Far Eastern University to a first-round sweep of the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament with a 2-1 victory over a resilient De La Salle University on Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

The second-year striker found space just outside the box and fired a decisive shot in the 80th minute, giving the Lady Tamaraws the edge in this heated rematch of last season’s finals.

“Ung breakaway goal ni Egay, it was a perfect shot. She was at a good moment at the right time,” said coach Let Dimzon.

Marienelle Cristobal had earlier equalized in first-half stoppage time, calmly converting a penalty in the 45th minute after La Salle’s Elisha Lubiano was called for a foul inside the box.

With the win, FEU claimed first place in the standings with 12 points and a +10 goal difference.

“Medyo intense sa first half. Naunahan kami maka-score goal, but it's a good comeback. Sabi ko, hangga’t hindi pa natatapos yung whistle, don't stop,” added Dimzon.

It was a tough afternoon for the defending champions as it was the Lady Booters who opened the scoring.

Maegan Alforque outmaneuvered FEU goalkeeper Jessa Lehayan to put La Salle on the scoreboard in the 31st minute.

Despite ending the first round on a sour note, La Salle remains in a strong position to return to the finals, holding second place in the standings with nine points and a +3 goal difference.

The second round of eliminations is set to begin next Saturday at the same Diliman venue.

Ateneo earns UAAP Women's Football draw with Bicierro equalizer

Jada Bicierro delivered a crucial strike in the second half as Ateneo de Manila University battled to a 1-1 draw against the University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament, Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

Down by a goal, the 19-year-old forward found the back of the net in the 79th minute to level the score and deny the Lady Booters a full three points.

It was a well-earned finish for Bicierro—her third goal of the season—as the former national futsal team standout consistently tested the UST defense with dangerous attempts from the opening whistle.

“Jada is always a game changer,” said Ateneo coach Bob Manlulo. “I guess we rose up to the challenge. I told the players that for us to win or even draw against UST, we have to level up with their physical game.

"So I think the players did their job. They basically had fun rising up to the challenges," he added.

UST drew first blood in the 59th minute through Christy Logastua, who calmly slotted the ball into the net after Ateneo goalkeeper Chelssy Casals was caught off her line.

The Lady Booters nearly reclaimed the lead in the 82nd minute when substitute Jillian Jalnaz attempted to score a late winner, but she could not convert as the two sides ultimately shared the spoils at full time.

Both teams wrapped up the first round with four points apiece.

UST stayed in third place with a -1 goal difference, while Ateneo settled for fourth with -4.

UP, La Salle battle to goalless deadlock

De La Salle University held tournament leader University of the Philippines to a goalless stalemate in the first round of the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament on Thursday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

Anchored by the defense of rookie defender Bacchus Ekberg and goalkeeper Edcel Lauron, the Green Booters successfully stifled the Fighting Maroons’ vaunted attack line. With the draw, La Salle climbed to third place with four points and a goal difference of 0, just behind the University of Santo Tomas Golden Booters on goal difference.

Ekberg nearly delivered the breakthrough for La Salle on a counterattack, but his cross inside the box in the 57th minute went straight to UP keeper Fonzy Gonzalez.

"We know that UP is a strong team, but we're here to play. We just did our best to win na even though most of my players are new, but when they follow the gameplan, the instructions, we can win this game. So, we prepared for this because we know how they play, and we somehow succeeded," said newly installed head coach Richard Leyble.

La Salle will next face archrival Ateneo on Sunday when the action shifts to the UP Football Stadium at 4 p.m.

On the other hand, the result was far from flattering for the Fighting Maroons, who nevertheless kept their hold on the top spot with seven points and a +3 goal difference.

Both sides had promising moments from the wings, with UP’s Cian Galsim and Jian Caraig creating chances, but Lauron calmly dealt with every attempt that came his way.

Florenz Tacardon came closest to breaking the deadlock for UP, but his shot late in the second half also went straight into the hands of the La Salle keeper.

"We just have to go back in training and work on our decision-making better inside the field. They should make the right decisions depending on the situation and just enjoy the game," said UP head coach Popoy Clarino.

The Fighting Maroons return to their home pitch next Thursday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m., where they look to get back on track against Adamson.

Jada Bicierro scored the decisive goal in the second half to give Ateneo de Manila University a 1-0 victory over the University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament on Wednesday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

The former national futsal standout finished a well-executed counterattack, turning in a precise delivery from Celina Salazar in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock and hand the Blue Eagles their first win of the season.

Bicierro — now with two goals this season after scoring in back-to-back matches — lifted Ateneo to fourth place with three points and a goal difference of -4, just behind University of Santo Tomas, which has a -1 GD.

"I guess, just like what we did in Ang Liga (against the same team), I told the players to be patient and just get the right timing on the counterattack because UP has a good defensive line. So, we used our advantage with Jada Bicierro, who can really outrun them. I think that was the key to win today," said long-time head coach Bob Manlulo of his side’s breakthrough victory.

The two sides will vie for sole possession of third place in Saturday’s opening match at 4 p.m., when action resumes at the UP Football Stadium in Diliman, Quezon City.

“UST is a highly physical team, and we have to be on par with them. We have to put the mentality to the girls that football is a physical contact game and we have to really fight for each ball, just to win that game," Manlulo said, previewing their clash against the Lady Booters.

Bicierro’s goal was a reward for Ateneo’s resilient defensive stand and its sharp transitions on the counterattack, with Bicierro and Salazar providing the spark. Soleil Schroth had the Blue Eagles’ biggest chance in the opening period when her 37th-minute shot went just over the bar.

For the Fighting Maroons, the result did not reflect their dominance, especially in the first half. Jazi Borra and Isalyn Tundag made strong runs but failed to find the back of the net.

Erisa Rivas also had her moments off the bench in the second half but could not prevent UP from slipping to a fourth straight defeat to close the first round.

Judie Arevalo drilled in the winning goal, sending Far Eastern University to a third straight victory in the UAAP Season 88 Women's Football Tournament, 1-0, over University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

The four-peat-seeking Lady Tamaraws joined the De La Salle Lady Booters atop the standings with nine points, setting up a showdown on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the University of the Philippines Football Field.

The senior forward capitalized on a well-executed buildup involving Marienell Cristobal and Angel Egay to put FEU ahead in the 52nd minute.

Cristobal, who had been at the heart of the Lady Tamaraws' offense since kickoff, finally found Egay inside the box.

Egay, maintaining her composure, attempted to finish, but the ball did not find the net.

Arevalo, however, was perfectly positioned to tap the ball home, securing the go-ahead goal.

"Ang naging problem naming nung start is hindi kami nag-solid eh do'n sa backline and do'n sa harapan. Ni-reserve talaga namin si Arevalo; kaya mahirap 'pag wala 'yung starter mo. Pero good adjustment during the second half, a lot of dangerous opportunities. Yun lang talaga, 'yung understanding sa back, kasi marami kaming chances pero hindi talaga nila makita 'yung target," said long-time head coach Let Dimzon.

("We just had problems at the start because we reserved Arevalo for the latter parts, so we were not that solid at the back and up front. Without our usual starters, we struggled. But it was a good adjustment during the second half because we had a lot of dangerous opportunities. We just have to improve our understanding of the situation from the back to be able to find our options up front.)

"We want them to improve lang lagi every game kasi from the very first game nagiging maganda 'yung result ng play namin. Kaya going into the La Salle game, improve lang nila 'yung communication kasi do'n kami nagkukulang," she added.

UST had opportunities in both halves, but Rica Gerona in the first half and Jannah Santerva in the second could not break through the FEU defense.

The Lady Booters remain in third place with three points and a goal difference of -1 as they seek a bounce-back win against Ateneo in Saturday's first match at 4 p.m.

Following the University of the East and Ateneo de Manila University match in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament last Sunday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, the UAAP Disciplinary Committee has imposed sanctions on those involved in the incident, in accordance with the PFF Disciplinary Code.

The match, which ended in a 4-3 victory for UE, was marred by controversy after the Red Warriors left the pitch following the Blue Eagles’ third goal while the game was still ongoing.

Although UE eventually returned to complete stoppage time, their walkout triggered a series of altercations involving both teams and some spectators at the venue.

As a result, the UAAP Disciplinary Committee has penalized UE with a deduction of three points in the league table.

This sanction is grounded in Article 30 of the PFF Disciplinary Code—Deduction of Points—which allows for the removal of points in current or future PFF competitions.
The Committee determined that UE’s actions breached the values of discipline, respect, and fair play that the league upholds.

UE head coach Frank Muescan has been handed a one-match suspension, to be served in the Red Warriors’ next game against Adamson University this Thursday at Vermosa.

He will also face further investigation, as it was he who ordered his players to leave the pitch and head to the dugout.

Two UE players received multiple-match bans for their involvement in the incident.

Defender Mark Maghinay was suspended for four matches after assaulting a linesman and provoking the crowd. Fellow defender Christian Tio was given a two-match ban for pushing Ateneo strength and conditioning coach Dox Delos Reyes from behind, an act deemed a serious violation of athlete conduct standards.

On the Ateneo side, Blue Eagles head coach JP Merida was sanctioned for verbally lashing out at Commissioner Rely San Agustin during the commotion.

He will serve a touchline ban in Ateneo’s upcoming game against the University of Santo Tomas, also on Thursday at Vermosa.

In addition, an unidentified member of the UE delegation—wearing a ‘Gala’ #20 Blue Manila Montet jersey—has been banned from entering both the Vermosa and UP Diliman Football Stadiums.

The individual was caught by Ayala Vermosa Sports Director Hans-Peter Smit locking the dugout gate on the fourth official, who was attempting to speak with the UE team during their walkout. The stadium ban will take effect immediately, beginning with the next match.

These sanctions were determined after a thorough review of officiating decisions, disciplinary considerations, reinforcement of match-day protocols, and the implementation of stricter crowd control measures.

The UAAP also acknowledged concerns raised about the officiating during the game.

In partnership with the PFF, referee performances will continue to be evaluated through a structured, developmental process.

The league reiterated its commitment to raising the standard of officiating, emphasizing that the goal is not only to ensure consistency but also to exceed expectations in high-stakes matches for the benefit of teams, student-athletes, and fans alike.

Defending champion Far Eastern University staged a masterful comeback, cruising to a commanding 3-0 win over Adamson University on Sunday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

Edgar Aban opened the scoring with a flawless free kick in the 17th minute, breaking the deadlock and igniting the Tamaraws’ relentless attack.

The 21-year-old then orchestrated another brilliant move, delivering a pinpoint assist to Czam Acuesta in the 33rd minute to double FEU’s lead.

In the dying moments of the match, Jerby Anito sealed the victory with a decisive strike in the 90+3’ to cap off the Tamaraws’ commanding performance.

"The 3-1 loss last game was a good wake-up call. It was good that it came early. When the team was defending the title, it was the first game jitters always, you know? So it was a good shakeup. I'm pretty pleased how they performed today," shared assistant coach Albert Besa on the comeback win.

"We were able to focus mentally on the game and we were not overestimating, even though, you know, whoever our opponent is, that's one of the rules, and it was good. They played well."

With the victory, FEU claimed its first three points of the season and surged to fourth place in the standings with a +1 goal difference. The Tamaraws will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face University of Santo Tomas at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Adamson, meanwhile, battled fiercely against the Morayta squad, constantly probing for cracks in FEU’s solid defense.

Golike Doko came heartbreakingly close to scoring a consolation goal for the Soaring Falcons in the 83rd minute, but the ball drifted agonizingly just inches wide of the goalpost.

The Soaring Falcons remain at the bottom of the standings with zero points and a -6 goal difference.

Adamson will continue its search for a first win when it faces University of the East at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the same Imus pitch.

Judie Arevalo and Regine Rebosura each scored twice as Far Eastern University crushed Ateneo de Manila University, 5-1, on Saturday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

After falling behind 1-0, Arevalo netted the equalizer in the 19th minute and completed her brace in the 36th. In between, Season 85 Best Midfielder Rebosura struck twice in quick succession in the 32nd and 33rd minutes to cement FEU’s comeback.

"Maganda yung attacking, especially sa side ni Regine, very dangerous," shared head coach Let Dimzon, returning after an international stint in Borneo.

"Marami yung mga chances to score in the first half pero di nila na-ca-capitalize. Yun yung isa sa problem namin is yung distance namin from each other sa attacking field so I think ayun na lang ang kailngan nila i-improve."

"The attacking was really good, especially on Regine’s side—it was very dangerous. There were a lot of chances to score in the first half, but we didn’t capitalize on them. One of our problems is the spacing between players in the attacking field, so I think that’s what they need to work on."

Knayeza Abella, a first-year defender for the Lady Tamaraws, added the final goal in the 53rd minute to cap off the dominant performance.

The victory lifts the defending champions to second place with six points and a +7 goal difference, just behind De La Salle University, which leads with nine points.

Ateneo initially took the lead in the 10th minute through Jada Bicierro, but the early advantage only fueled FEU’s determination to mount pressure and turn the game around.

The loss drops the Blue Eagles to fourth place, leaving them with back-to-back defeats and a -4 goal difference.

Both teams will return to action this Wednesday at Vermosa.

FEU will face University of Santo Tomas at 4 p.m., followed by Ateneo taking on University of the Philippines at 6:30 p.m.

La Salle keeps UP winless in UAAP Women's Football

De La Salle University outlasted a resilient University of the Philippines side to secure a gritty 2-0 win in the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Football Tournament on Saturday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

Sophomore Dani Tanjangco broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, slotting in her second goal of the season after finally breaking through a stubborn Fighting Maroons defense anchored by goalkeeper Mariel Sancho, who stood tall against every attempt.

UP’s woes compounded in the 61st minute when Gabby Calope accidentally scored an own goal while defending inside the box, handing La Salle a much-needed cushion.

"For this game, our preparation was bad,” admitted coach Alvin Ocampo. “Luck was only on our side, especially with that second goal. We did not have enough days to train because of where we were situated, as we were hit by the typhoon. We're just lucky today, and it was still a positive result for the girls."

With the win, the Lady Booters remained atop the standings with nine points and a +4 goal difference.

La Salle now sets its sights on completing a perfect first round when it clashes with defending champion Far Eastern University in a rematch of last season’s final next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on the same Imus pitch.

"We still have one week to prepare for the match against FEU,” said Ocampo. “It’s still early since it's only the first round, but at least we'll be able to prepare for them.”

UP, meanwhile, failed to break through La Salle’s defense despite Sancho’s inspired efforts in goal that prevented the Lady Booters from extending their lead further.

Cris Mae Montero had a late chance in the 86th minute, but her attempt sailed wide.

The Fighting Maroons remain at the bottom of the table with zero points and a -7 goal difference.

UP will try to close its first-round campaign on a positive note against Ateneo de Manila University on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., also at Vermosa.

Injury time goal secures La Salle's triumph

Lucas Aguilar drilled in a late winner to give De La Salle University its first victory of the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Football Tournament, edging University of the East, 1-0, Thursday at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub here.

Just as the match seemed headed for a goalless stalemate, the second-generation student-athlete broke the deadlock in the second minute of added time, handing the Green Booters their first win under new head coach Richard Leyble.

The result lifted De La Salle to three points with a goal difference of 0, joining Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, and University of the Philippines at the top of the table.

"We started slow because some of the players didn’t follow the plan," said Leyble, the former Davao Aguilas FC mentor in the Philippines Football League who succeeded Alvin Ocampo at the helm. "But all in all, they played well. Everybody played well. Everybody didn’t give up. They just played and won this game.

"Now, we were lucky. We were sensing that UE was the one to win in this case, but fortunately, we got the first goal."

De La Salle had to survive several scares early, as UE pressed hard in the opening half.

Eldrin Madrid found the back of the net in the fourth minute, only for the goal to be nullified due to an offside call.

Skipper John Bernard Magallon also came close, while Keith Hermoso repeatedly created danger with his deliveries into the Green Booters’ box.

Strong stops from starting goalkeeper Edcel Lauron and substitute Jason Salvante proved pivotal, keeping De La Salle afloat until it could seize its chance.

Aguilar also had an earlier attempt waved off for offside but made up for it late in the match.

Off a set-piece opportunity, Sebastian Fronda picked out Aguilar lurking inside the box.

With perfect timing, Fronda delivered the ball, and Aguilar blasted it past Chrisjan Tambilawan for the decisive strike.

That goal sealed De La Salle’s first triumph of the season.

The Green Booters will look to build momentum when they face UP next Thursday, October 2, at 2 p.m. on the same Imus pitch.

It was a frustrating defeat for UE, which dominated large stretches of the match—particularly in the first half—but failed to find the back of the net for the second straight outing.

The Red Warriors, now with two losses and a minus-2 goal difference, will try to bounce back against Ateneo on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Already one of the country’s premier sports and recreational centers, the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite, has inaugurated new facilities designed to enhance the experience of athletes, teams, and fans alike.

Just before the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament opened with a clash between archrivals De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University, a ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon to bless and showcase the hub’s new grandstand and player dugouts.

“It is my pleasure to greet everyone here today as we celebrate this remarkable milestone: the inauguration of our newly enhanced facilities during UAAP Season 88,” said Nona Torres, Senior Project Development Head.

“We are excited to unveil key improvements to our sports hub, including the brand-new grandstand and dugouts. Our bleachers now comfortably and safely accommodate 1,200 spectators, providing excellent views for an electrifying game-day experience.

“The locker rooms have been thoughtfully upgraded with modern showers, changing areas, recovery zones, and secure storage—offering athletes a comfortable and functional space to prepare and recover. These enhancements perfectly reflect Vermosa’s commitment to being a premier environment for sports excellence and well-being.”

The Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub now joins the list of venues that have hosted UAAP football over the past decade, including Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, the PFF National Training Center at Carmona, the UP Diliman Football Stadium, Circulo Verde, the FEU-Diliman turf, and Moro Lorenzo Field inside the Ateneo de Manila University, all of which are located in Quezon City, and the McKinley Hill Football Stadium in Taguig.

For UAAP Football Tournament Commissioner Rely San Agustin, adding another venue reflects both the growth of the competition and its role in developing local sports.

“Having the UAAP community be the first to experience these upgrades is truly a source of pride,” said San Agustin. “We believe these enhancements will foster even deeper engagement, passion, and support for football and sports in general here at Vermosa.

“This is a testament to Vermosa’s vision of being a world-class hub that nurtures athletes at all levels—from grassroots to elite—and promotes an active and dynamic lifestyle.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing, the action saw the Lady Booters from Taft eke out a 1-0 victory over the Blue Eagles, followed by the University of Santo Tomas pulling off the same scoreline against the University of the Philippines.

The next day saw the men take to the pitch to start off their season, with Ateneo taking a 3-0 win over Adamson, UP nipping the University of the East, 1-0, and UST securing a 2-1 triumph over La Salle.

Action is set to resume in the next couple of days, with Far Eastern University making their collegiate debut to kickstart their respective title defenses.

The Lady Tamaraws will face UP at 4pm, followed by Saturday's winners in La Salle and UST seeking to position themselves into the early lead at 630pm.

As for their male counterparts, they are set to tango also against UP at 7pm on Thursday as the final game of a tripleheader, with La Salle and UE kicking things off at 2pm, followed by UST and Adamson at 430pm.
