The University of the East kicked off its second round with an impressive victory over National University, 90-77 at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum last Saturday.
With Alvin Pasaol checked after back-to-back 30-plus point outings, the other Red Warriors took over this time, led by Mark Olayon and the big man combination of Wilson Bartolome and Nick Abanto.
Olayon contributed seventeen points, six rebounds, eight assists, and a block, while Bartolome added fourteen points and five rebounds. Abanto and Pasaol each had double-doubles, with Nick netting thirteen points and eleven rebounds, and Alvin toting eleven points and ten rebounds.
UE would lead at the half, 45-36, and although NU would come close in the third quarter, Derrick Pumaren's squad pulled away in the fourth quarter, eventually erecting a lead as large as sixteen points.
NU drops down to 3-5 with the defeat, while UE moves up to 2-6. Issa Gaye and J-Jay Alejandro led the Bulldogs with a combined scoring output of 36 points. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
