The University of Santo Tomas kept their postseason hopes alive in the Ang Liga tournament with an impressive 10-0 shellacking of Perpetual last Sunday at La Salle Science and Technology Complex.
Alijireh Fuchigami contributed a second half hat trick in 22 minutes for the Golden Booters to lead the way, with AJ Pasion and Ian de Castro contributing braces.
The defending champions needed 80 seconds to take the lead, thanks to Dexter Benecio, and a Conrado Dimacali strike just before halftime put UST ahead, 6-0. Completing the group of scorers is Austin Alianza.
What made it worse for the Altas is that they finished the match with ten men after Gabby Josol was sent off for his second bookable offense.
Marjo Allado's side now has ten points in eight matches, and will definitely need some help in order to enter the postseason.
What helped UST is having Lyceum and CSB battle to a goalless draw in the final match of the afternoon. Both NCAA sides now have thirteen points on their slate, although the Blazers have two games in hand against the Pirates.
Mellex Andes and Jake Vicen were effective in goal for the match for either side, snuffing out any scoring opportunity.
Meanwhile, the lone Div II matchup in Ang Liga saw Nazareth-National University defeat Malayan Colleges-Laguna, 5-0.
Kent Talam netted a second half brace late for the Bullpups, needing six minutes to complete that feat. Ivan Ouano put the current leaders ahead after seven minutes, with Joshua Broce doubling the score late in the first half. Bryan Ybanez completed the goalscorers in the 55th minute.
Nazareth-NU remains undefeated after four matches, while keeping the Wizards winless and goalless after two matches.
