Addressing the media at the half of FEU-UST, UAAP Executive Director and concurrent Commissioner for Basketball Rebo Saguisag says that he and the rest of the UAAP Board will not keep Rob Ricafort from playing in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament, but warned the University of the Philippines to be ready when facing consequences under the 20-day TRO.
In the official statement, the UAAP said that they’ll respect the TRO issued against the league regarding the eligibility of Ricafort. The UAAP age limit is 24 and those athletes who will turn 25 in the same season are not eligible to play; Rob Ricafort is 24 years old, but will not turn 25 until January next year.
Saguisag also added that the risk of playing Ricafort in their games faces a possible huge consequence, like forfeiting the games in which the latter will play and if the TRO is null and void.
Saguisag also cited Matthew Aquino’s situation with National Unversity two years ago, as where those games that he did play was not forfeited. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
