Ateneo remains undefeated in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament, beating the University of the East, 83-65 this past Sunday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Thirdy Ravena led the way for the Blue Eagles with 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Eleven of those 21 came in the final period, as they finally pulled away from the pesky Red Warriors.
The second-generation star praised their opposition in the post-match press conference, "UE showed their fighting spirit. We can't be complacent with any team. UE gave us a hard time."
Lead assistant Sandy Arespacochaga noted that the Red Warriors scored 29 in the third canto.
Ateneo may have struggled offensively in the first half, as they were limited to just 32 points, but they did manage to hold their own in the rebounding department overall, 44-32.
Alvin Pasaol led UE with 22 points, as they fell to 0-4. The Red Warriors will face Adamson next week, in an all-Pumaren coaching matchup. The Blue Eagles, on the other hand, will face a UST side this coming Wednesday that is also currently winless this season. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
