UP started the season with a bang after surviving UST.
Paul Desiderio was the hero for UP Fighting Maroons after nailing the game-winning triple to escape against the UST Tigers on Sunday in the UAAP Season 80 basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
Jeepy Faundo missed the desperation three for UST to give the win to UP. The Maroons went up by as much as 11 in the 1st half before UST made a run in the 3rd period. It was a back-and-forth game that saw a total of 11 lead changes.
Paul Desiderio, the hero ended up with 17 pts and 9 rebounds on 6-20 shooting, including a 2-11 mark from the three-point range.
“Sabi niya papasok ito”, Coach Bo Perasol said in the press room after the game.
Marvin Lee led the scoring department for UST with 20 points, while Steve Akomo who fouled out in the game ended up with a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
