In the lone Saturday matchup at the Ang Liga tournament, National University returned atop the Division I roost in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 victory over Lyceum at the Gatorade Blue Pitch in Makati.
The Bulldogs moved ahead of the Pirates late in the first half, with Lawrence Colina scoring first in the 41st minute, followed by Jekar Sullano three minutes later.
It didn't take long for NU to pad the lead further in the second half, with skipper Patrick Valenzuela adding to the tally in the 49th minute to make it 3-0.
Lyceum's woes were exacerbated when Neil Mark Subebe was sent off for his second booking in the 56th minute, putting the Pirates at a personnel disadvantage. NU would take full advantage, as they scored their fourth goal at the hour mark through Sean Epili.
Francis Mbei would cap the scoring in the 84th minute on a goalmouth scramble.
The win puts NU atop Division I with fourteen points through four wins and two draws, while snapping Lyceum's four-match winning streak. The Pirates are now two points behind with their first loss in the tournament.
