National University gets back on the winning track, after escaping the gritty University of Santo Tomas, 94-84 in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
Issa Gaye led the way for the Bulldogs, tallying 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jjay Alejandro also made a noteworthy contribution with a near triple-double performance of 12 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists.
It was UST who had a great shooting game of 43% compared to only 34% shooting of NU, which allowed them to remain within striking distance and even allowed them to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter. Also worth noting that the Tigers ended up with more rebounds than their counterparts, 59-46, but it was the turnovers again that really killed the Tigers. They tallied 29 turnovers overall, with 12 of those coming in the 4th quarter alone. They also committed twelve more fouls than NU, resulting to twelve more free throw attempts for the Bulldogs.
Regie Basibas led the way for the Growling Tigers with 23 points and 8 rebounds.
Bulldogs now with 2-1 record while the Tigers still winless after 3 outings. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
