Adamson Soaring Falcons came away victorious after a neck and neck battle against the UST Tigers, 88-81 in UAAP season 80 men's basketball tournament Wednesday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Rob Manalang tallied 19 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Papi Sarr returned to their team after missing their opening game due to an injury. He played just 12 minutes, but ended up with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
The story of the game was UST's turnovers which was 41, most in UAAP since 2003. At least four Tigers had at least five miscues.
"We needed this type of game. We made a lot of mental mistakes down the stretch. Credits to UST. We were a different team than last", head coach Franz Pumaren said in the press room after his first win of the season.
UST tried to kept the game close with 52% shooting from the field. Jeepy Faundo led the way for the Tigers with double-double output 21 points and 12 rebounds. Marvin Lee with 14 points while having 9 turnovers, most with the team.
The Falcons now with a 1-1 record and will face DLSU in their next game on Wednesday. Meanwhile, UST dropped to 0-2 for the season will try to win against NU on Wednesday also. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
