LUCAS Aguilar’s brace fired De La Salle University toward a 2-0 victory over University of the East to regain its winning ways in the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament on Sunday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.
The rookie out of De La Salle Zobel broke the deadlock in the 17th minute and added a second in the 51st minute.
Aguilar now has three goals for the Green Booters this season while goalkeeper Enrico Mangaoang had his second clean sheet of the campaign.
“The team wanted the three points,” said Coach Alvin Ocampo. “We really needed the three points for us to still have a chance to make the Final Four. Given that Ateneo lost today, there will be no stepladder. It will give us more chances to enter.”
Back in the first round, the Green Booters and Red Warriors drew 1-1 last September 19.
After suffering losses to University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas, La Salle will look to build on this win against archrival Ateneo de Manila University this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on the same pitch.
La Salle remains in fifth place with 10 points and a minus-3 goal difference.
On the other hand, UE will return to action against Adamson University this Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
The Red Warriors are in sixth place with seven points and a minus-15 GD.
