NU, CSB, Lyceum claim Ang Liga wins

Ang Liga action returned to Canlubang on Sunday with a completed tripleheader, as National University, College of Saint Benilde, and Lyceum won their respective matches.

The Bulldogs kept Perpetual at the bottom of Div I with a 2-0 victory in the lone morning matchup, overcoming a personnel disadvantage for the entire second half against the Altas with Rexon Capellan being sent off in the 36th minute.

Elmer Sampaga opened the scoring for NU in the 66th minute, while Mike Arbela put the icing on the cake with his 84th minute strike to give them their third win of the season.

Vincent Erik Lovitos gave the Blazers the lone goal of the match in the 73rd minute against UST, breaking away from a counter and slotting it past Zaldy Abraham.

The loss is the third this season for the Golden Booters after five matches so far, as they continue to struggle after claiming the title last season. Meanwhile, this makes it back-to-back 1-0 wins for CSB.

The final match of the tripleheader saw Lyceum reassert its hold on the Ang Liga Div I leadership with a 3-0 victory over EAC. John Paul Canieso scored in both halves to register his brace, specifically in the 17th and 67th minute, with Mark Gervin Ty completing the scoring at the 68th minute. At the same time, the defense held firm to make it four straight clean sheets for the team and netminder Mellex Andes.

The Pirates now have a two-point lead over NU in Div I, with action set to resume this coming weekend.
