Ateneo Blue Eagles made a strong start after blitzing UP in the end, 92-71 in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday afternoon at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ateneo continued their domination in the paint as they outrebounded the Fighting Maroons, 51-38 including a huge advantage in 2nd chance points 31-7.
It was also the debut of Ateneo rookie Tyler Tio who was out due to an injury in their first game. He really made an impressive showing especially in the 4th qtr, where the Blue Eagles made the separation wide open. Tyler Tio finished the game with 14 points on perfect 6/6 shooting in just 11 minutes of action.
Juan Gomez de Liano led the way for UP with 16 points while Paul Desiderio the hero in their first win limited only to 9 points. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
