FEU gives Olsen his maiden UAAP coaching victory

FEU bounced back after their opening loss after escaping UE, Wednesday afternoon on UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After a slow start against DLSU last Sunday, the Tamaraws started the game strong with Prince Orizu, Richard Escoto and Barkley Ebona leading the way.

At one point in the 2nd qtr they led the game 30-11 and never looked back.

The Warriors tried to crawl their way back led by captain Clark Derige, but they can’t break the 7-point barrier. It was Dennison who put up the finishing touches in the game by scoring six straight points to give them a 12-point advantage heading into the final 2 minutes of the ballgame.

It was coach Olsen Racela’s first win as a college head coach.

Another impressive performance by Ron Dennison ending the game with 16 points on 7/13 shooting along with 3 assists and 2 steals. Prince Orizu made his presence felt by having a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Clark Derige led the way for the Warriors with 22 points and Alvin Pasaol tallying 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists before fouling out for 2nd straight game. UE limited their turnovers but can’t capitalize on it of having just 34% shooting from the field.

UE will try to bounce back on their game that will be on Sunday against UP. Meanwhile, FEU looking to continue their winning way against Ateneo on Sunday too. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
