Weather conditions forced a disappointing conclusion to the opening day of the men's football tournament for the 87th season of the UAAP at the UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.
Heavy rains and lightning forced a stoppage of the match involving Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University with over thirteen minutes of action in place.
Protocols would then mandate an initial delay of thirty minutes in order to assess the possibility of resuming play. An additional delay of thirty minutes was then allocated to see if whether the game can resume or not.
With an hour to make the assessment, organizers decided to call it a day and cancelled the match. It will be rescheduled to a later date and will start from scratch.
Tickets purchased Sunday will be honored for the match when it is rescheduled.
It was a muted denouement for the day, which saw Far Eastern University defeat Adamson, 3-0 and the University of the East stunning the University of Santo Tomas, 2-1, in the afternoon games scheduled.
