Lyceum has not missed a beat in the 94th Season of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, with many crediting CJ Perez for keeping things smooth sailing for the Pirates.
Last season's Most Valuable Player decided to showcase himself this week, in particular, with his gaudy numbers against Arellano and Mapua.
In a battle of undefeated teams, Perez scored a career-high 31 points with six rebounds, six assists, and five steals help Lyceum overcome a slow start against the Chiefs, 82-65.
He would then follow that up with a near-triple-double performance with nineteen points, nine rebounds, and eight assists to dispatch the Cardinals, 94-81.
Such feats were not left unnoticed, as the NCAA Press Corps awarded Perez with the latest Chooks-to-Go Player of the Week nod, beating out Prince Eze, Robert Bolick, Levi dela Cruz, and Mike Harry Nzeusseu.
CJ credited his teammates and head coach Topex Robinson for his production, sharing to the media, "Syempre na-inspire ako sa pagbibigay ng kumpyansa sa’min ni coach. Hindi ko rin magagawa ‘yun kung ‘di dahil sa mga teammates ko. ‘Yung collective effort talaga ang key doon kaya ako nakakagawa ng ganoon.
He adds, "Syempre ‘di ko naman nagagawa ‘yung ganon (good performance) kung wala ang trust ni coach at ng mga teammates ko. ‘Yung effort na ibibigay ko this season, all out talaga"
CJ still thinks that there is still room to improve for his game, as he plays out his final season in the league before he takes the plunge into the pro ranks.
