Games today at the Arellano University Gym in Legarda
2pm: Arellano vs EAC-ICA (HS)
4pm: Arellano vs EAC (Seniors)
Arellano finally gets to showcase its wares with the "NCAA on Tour" heads to Legarda this afternoon for its second stop in the NCAA's 94th season.
The Braves and the Chiefs' season debuts were called off twice in consecutive weeks, both due to inclement weather conditions, and are hoping that today's matches against the Brigadiers and Generals, respectively, will push through.
According to Arellano head coach Jerry Codinera, "The boys are excited and eager to play this season." He also lamented that the weather has limited their practice schedule, adding "We couldn’t practice for several days because some of the players got stranded due to flooding and we also can’t use our court because of the moist caused by the rains." He did say, "we’ll just do what we can to win."
The Chiefs will be relying on a collective effort from the likes of Michael Canete, Rence Alcoriza, and Levi dela Cruz to replace Kent Salado, who is missing the season due to a knee injury, whilst counting on Elie Ongolo Ongolo to replenish what Lervin Flores gave them before graduating.
Meanwhile, EAC is coming off a 106-97 loss to Lyceum last Friday, and is counting on their impressive run late in the third and early fourth quarter from that game to provide inspiration into this matchup.
After a season cut short by an ACL injury, Hamadou Laminou made an impressive return to NCAA action with 34 points, sixteen rebounds and four blocks, before fouling out in the fourth quarter to put a damper on the EAC's upset hopes. Head coach Ariel Sison shares, "I’m happy with how he (Laminou) played in our last game and I’m hopeful he could sustain that kind of game the rest of the way."
In addition, high school rivals Guilmer dela Torre and Maui Cruz are now bringing their rivalry into the collegiate realm, from being a Brave and a Brigadier to a Chief and a General.
