Perpetual pips San Beda to kick NCAA HS campaign

Perpetual Help System Dalta pulled off a 72-69 victory over San Beda yesterday to kick off the High School Basketball tournament for the NCAA's 94th season at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The duo of Mark Gallano and Edzel Galoy joined forces to lead the Junior Altas with each netting sixteen points, including the former's assist to the latter late to give Perpetual the lead against the Red Cubs for good with seconds remaining in the game.

Their head coach Michael Saguitsuit shared that "the boys showed heart," in pulling off the win, something they have yet to do against the perennial powerhouse in years.

In a way, this sort of avenges the loss their elder counterparts endured during the opening of the NCAA tournament this past Saturday.

In the second game of the doubleheader, San Sebastian pipped Lyceum, 69-68. NBTC Div II MVP and Cagayan de Oro-native Milo Janao starred for the Staglets with a team-high 22 points.
