Calvo steps up to become Player of the Week

In a moment where the team needed him to lead, JP Calvo answered.

After Letran suffered a 78-75 loss to Perpetual in their season opener, Knights head coach Jeff Napa asked for his veterans to step up and take command.

And it showed in their 83-76 victory over San Sebastian last Friday, as Calvo shot 6/11 from the field on his way to sixteen points.

Such prowess and assertive on-court leadership garnered the attention of the media, as he is bestown as the Chooks-To-Go Player of the Week by the NCAA Press Corps.

JP shared after the game, "Kasi ang maganda lang dito nagtutulungan kami. Tinutulungan din nila ako kung paano ko sila dalhin." He also credited his teammates, noting, "Sa dulo, sila yung kakapitan ko. Nagtutulungan lang kami."

Napa shared that he met with Calvo and Bong Quinto in order to help steer the Knights back to the right track, "Kinausap ko yung dalawang veterans ko. Pinakata ko sa kanila yung bigger picture. Yung teammates nila sumunod naman sila," he says.

JP beat out Quinto, Ian Alban and Levi dela Cruz of Arellano, and Yankee Haruna of College of Saint Benilde for the citation.
