It is the turn of the shuttlers to partake of UAAP Season 78, as the league's badminton tournament kicks off this morning at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

All eight UAAP schools will be fielding teams for both the men and women.

The men will kick off the festivities at 10am, with NU seeking to claim its third championship in four seasons. The Bulldogs will not have two-time MVP Joper Escueta for this particular title defense, but Peter Magnaye, Ross Leeward Pedrosa, and Season 77 Rookie of the Year Alvin Morada will take up the cudgels in his place.

The Bustillos-based shuttlers will have the premier matchup on opening day, as they face their Season 76 Finals opponents Ateneo.

On the other hand, La Salle aims to improve from last season's finals appearance by kicking off their campaign against UP. The Green Shuttlers, led by Gerald Sibayan, believe that they are still a top-three team this season, armed with more maturity and dedication to the quest of securing the championship, says team captain EJ Boac.

The other men's badminton ties slated for that day sees UST vs UE, and Adamson vs FEU.

On the distaff side, UP begins its title defense against FEU at 230pm. These Lady Shuttlers will have the core of the squad back, including MVP Jessie Francisco, that ended a 14-year title drought.

Last season's losing finalists Ateneo, led by former MVP Bianca Carlos, will attempt to reclaim the championship with their opener against La Salle.

The other matchups scheduled that day are UST vs UE and Adamson vs NU.
