The quest for the final Olympic autobid will be underway today, as the 2015 FIBA-Asia tournament kicks off in Changsha, China.

Gilas Pilipinas' quest to secure that berth begins at 1145am, as they face tournament debutants Palestine in their opener at the city's Social Work College Gymnasium. The match is to be shown LIVE on BTV and TV5, with online streaming available via Sports5.ph.

For head coach Tab Baldwin, the tournament is the culmination of almost two months of preparation, including tournaments in Estonia, Chinese-Taipei, and in Quezon City, as well as a camp in Cebu before leaving for China on Monday.

The camp in the Queen City of the South, he believes, allowed the team to be better fine-tuned for his system while at the same time be away from the distractions that are present in Manila.

He adds that they will take the three opponents Gilas will be facing in Group B (Palestine, Hong Kong, Kuwait) seriously, with these games setting the table for the upcoming games in the tournament against the top continental contenders.

Palentine secured the chance to play in this competition by finishing 3rd in the West Asian sub-zone behind Jordan and Lebanon. Coached by Jerry Steele, they are led by Sani Sakakini, who averaged a 20 and 10 line as an import in the Lebanese pro league. Notable in his absence is Omar Krayyem, who was the Asian import of Globalport in the PBA.
