Philippines seeks to finalize its AFC Asian Cup berth

The Philippines might just book a ticket to the United Arab Emirates for 2019, provided they secure a victory over Nepal in its AFC Asian Cup Qualifier this afternoon at the ANFA Complex in Kathmandu.

A win guarantees the Azkals will finish on top of Group F, as they currently have eight points from four matches. The hosts only have one point to their name in four matches.

Head coach Thomas Dooley shared to the Philippine Football Federation that "Preparations are going very well," adding that he "was a little bit surprised with how the players handled the difference in the altitude well, but we will see in the game."

In addition, Dooley shares the urgency to win the matchup. "We have to win the game and that’s the bottom line," he says. "The confidence I have in the players is that individually they are unique and if they put together their 100% on the field, then we have a big chance to win the game."

Injuries have affected player selection, with the likes of Luke Woodland, Manny Ott, Javier Patino, and Amani Aguinaldo all out for this fixture. To address this, Dooley has dusted off Marwin Angeles, and called up fresh legs in the form of Paolo Salenga and Joshua Dutosme.

The game will be shown LIVE on S+A, but it is also available via streaming, thanks to ANFA.
