The cast is complete.
Far Eastern University officially completed the four teams advancing to the postseason, defeating Adamson, 71-54 this past Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Tamaraws clinched their berth for the fifth straight season and their ninth of the last ten years by clamping down on defense, forcing the Soaring Falcons to shoot 33% from the field. Arvin Tolentino led the team offensively with fourteen points and five rebounds.
Adamson also had to deal with injuries affecting a couple of their key cogs in Jerrick Ahanmisi and Jerie Pingoy during the game. Both players had to be taken to the hospital afterwards.
Ahanmisi suffered an ankle sprain in the second quarter, while Pingoy suffered the same injury in the fourth quarter, when they managed to cut the deficit to 52-46. Without the point guard's steady play, Adamson allowed FEU to take control and end the game on a 19-8 run.
Head coach Olsen Racela was proud of what his boys showed in the game, as they really wanted to make it in the Final Four.
Rob Manalang led the way for Adamson with fifteen points. Regardless of the result, they are locked in to the third seed.
The win eliminates the University of the Philippines, who had just eliminated National University in the first game of the doubleheader, as they finished with a 7-7 record. A loss would have forced a playoff between the two teams.
Both teams had to wait to determine their fate in the next round, as Ateneo attempted to book their direct seat into the finals against La Salle the following day. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
