Far Eastern University used a strong second half to retain control of their postseason hopes, defeating the University of the East, 79-63, this past Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Red Warriors controlled things early on, taking a 33-29 lead in the first half, as the Tamaraws found their bearings a little bit in the third quarter. But the trio of veterans in Prince Orizu, Russel Escoto, and Ron Dennison led the charge in the fourth quarter as they pulled away with a 12-2 run in the period. Jasper Parker would then put the icing on the victory with a couple of triples in the last two minutes.
Parker finishes with a career-high eighteen points and eight assists. Orizu would end up with a double-double effort of fourteen points and thirteen rebounds.
Head coach Olsen Racela saw this win as good confidence booster, adding that he was proud of how the team performed in the second half.
The win allows the Tamaraws to return to .500 at 6-6 with two matches left on their schedule.
Alvin Pasaol led the Red Warriors with eighteen points, but was held to 6/19 shooting with eight turnovers, as defenders were draped around him all afternoon long.
As for UE, they fall to 3-10 and will look at their matchup against the University of the Santo Tomas as they seek to end their season on a positive note this Sunday. (c/o Kim Karlo Castro)
