The Bandit |
The Bandit was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, but is one of the few foreigners who are based in the Philippines and compete locally and regionally, joining the likes of Pete Brooks, Hideo Morikawa, Nicholas Mann, and Igor Subora. He trains at the Legacy Gym in Boracay, doing so under the tutelage of Ole Laursen since 2012. The 26-year-old has had four fights in the country, including an 11-second stoppage of Glenn Sparv back in April 2016, allowing him to claim the PXC Welterweight title.
That impressive run got the attention of ONE Championship, which got him a match against Luis Santos on ONE: Dynasty of Heroes last May, defeating him via KO in the third round on his debut with the promotion. He had been a late replacement after Vuyusile Colossa withdrew, on just two weeks' notice.
Sapo was dominating the Swede for the opening two rounds, before miraculously pulling out the victory in the third. The upset set up the matchup against Askren at ONE Championship: Shanghai this coming September 2 at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center.
Kadestam says, "I would not have come to this country if I were not certain of having a career here." He adds, "The Philippines is my home away from home. It's a beautiful country. My stay in the Philippines for four years, sparkplugged my professional career in the sport. I am grateful for everything that this country has given me.
Zebaztian vows to shock the world against the current undefeated champion, noting, "I am no pushover. I am not someone's footstool. On September 2nd, I will once again shock the world. Ben Askren is only a man, and he is beatable. The belt will soon be mine."
One thing for certain, The Bandit says, is that this will be a war between the two of them.
