Mapua opens Fr. Martin's Cup campaign on a winning note

Mapua used a second quarter run to secure a 90-72 win over Treston International College in Fr. Martin's Cup Summer League action inside the Mendiola campus of San Beda on Friday.

The duo of Warren Bonifacio and Christian Buñag took charge in the second period for the Cardinals, using a 13-6 run to help establish a 38-21 lead over the Golden Lions.

Treston would manage to reduce the deficit to 69-59, but Mapua held on with a strong close out finish.

Bonifacio led all scorers with sixteen points, while Adrian Nocum added fifteen markers. Buñag netted fourteen points.

Treston does not come out empty handed, as their high school team defeated San Beda, 93-74.

The Golden Cubs relied on fourteen points from Ronel Ulep to dispatch the Red Cubs, establishing a sizable lead in the second quarter. They would then expanded the lead to large as 57-34 in the third quarter before settling in at 67-47 into the fourth.

San Beda would use an 8-1 run to cut that lead down to 68-55, but Treston would respond to ensure the win.

Art Cagandahan chipped in with twelve points, while playmaker Rasheen Jose contributed ten markers. Meanwhile, Andrei Ostonal led San Beda with a game-high 23 points.
