Francisco just misses out on a medal in Asiad skateboard tilt

c/o POC/PSC Media

Jericho “Kiko” Francisco Jr. may have missed the podium, but the veteran Filipino-American skateboarder walked away from the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with something he valued just as much—a competition he genuinely enjoyed.

Francisco finished fourth in the Men’s Park Final with 84.41 points, coming just 1.62 points short of the bronze medal.

Japan’s Shiji Gunji took bronze with 86.03, while Chinese Taipei’s Ku Yong-yan won silver with 87.33. Japan’s Izuru Nagahara claimed gold with 88.96.

For Francisco, however, the final result was only part of the story.

After entering the competition with limited preparation and virtually no expectations, the 24-year-old said he was simply grateful to have enjoyed every moment on the course.

“I am beyond happy with my performance. I could not be any happier. Dude, I came into this with literally no expectations.”

Francisco revealed that he had only accumulated around 10 hours of practice, including his preparation for the Asian Games.

“I’ve put in maybe 10 hours of practice, including the practice time to prepare for this. So I was not expecting much.”

Despite the limited preparation, Francisco delivered a competitive performance in the final. More importantly, he said he was finally able to approach a major competition without the pressure and nervousness that had accompanied him throughout much of his career.

“Everything I did out there on that course was something I wanted to do, and it felt amazing.”

Francisco said that feeling was particularly meaningful after years of competing at the highest level.

“For the past 10 years, I’m always nervous and I’m always trying to do stuff I don’t want to do. And I really had a lot of free range competition. I had a lot of fun. Completely. No regrets.”

That freedom allowed Francisco to enjoy what he described as one of the most enjoyable competitions of his career.

“I had a great time. This is probably one of the most fun competitions I’ve had in the past 10 years probably.”

Francisco’s Asian Games campaign also carried a special significance because of his connection to one of the Philippines’ youngest skateboarding stars, Mazel Paris.

Francisco has been coaching skateboarding for the past four years through First Class Skate, his coaching business, and Paris was among his earliest students.

“Mazel was actually one of my second students ever, and I’ve been a professional skateboard coach for the past four years now.”

Seeing both himself and his student compete on the Asian Games stage was a moment of pride for Francisco.

“To see that we are competing at the top level of skateboarding, it’s really incredible.”

Paris went on to finish fifth in the Women’s Park Final, recording a best score of 80.65 and coming within 2.21 points of the bronze medal.

Francisco has also worked with other young Filipino skateboarders, including Elizabeth Amador, as he continues to build his role beyond his own competitive career.

His work as a coach has become an important part of his vision for the future of Philippine skateboarding.

With his Asian Games campaign now over, Francisco’s attention turns back home and toward First Class Skate.

Rather than focusing solely on his own competitive career, he wants to use his experience to help young skateboarders reach the international stage.

“Something that’s next for me is to really elevate my business back home, which is a skateboard coaching business called First Class Skate.”

His goal is to create more opportunities for young athletes to experience the same level of competition he has encountered throughout his career.

“I really want to take kids all over the world to the next level just so they can compete at this type of stage.”

Francisco’s competitive résumé gives him plenty of experience to draw from.

A two-time SEA Games gold medalist in men’s park skateboarding, he won at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines and again at the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok, where he posted a winning score of 90.68.

He also became the lone Filipino park skateboarder to advance to the second phase of the 2024 Paris Olympic Qualification System, competing in the Olympic qualification events in Dubai and Budapest.

TCL set with Olympic Day activations

The court TCL took care of at Araullo High School

In line with Olympic Day, TCL conducted special activities highlighting the values espoused by the Olympic Movement, striving to "Inspire Greatness" in its own unique way to build a better future ahead.

One such activation took place recently at the Araullo High School in Manila, where TCL revitalized the court being used by the school in conjuction with Rain or Shine, who provided the paint to enable the refresh of the facility that has 2,072 square feet outside of the 4,700 square foot that comprises the court.

To highlight the finished product, a TCL Basketball Camp was facilitated through the coordination of Better Basketball PH Skills Camp. Forty youngsters participated in this clinic, with Suwon KT SonicBoom guard JD Cagulangan gracing the occasion. The UP alumnus and the Rookie of the Year for the just-concluded Korean Basketball League season joined in and even shot hoops alongside the participants.

In addition, a coaching principles session was conducted with TCL brand partner Jeffrey Cariaso sharing his basketball expertise towards the PE coaches present. Assisting the Blackwater coach in the discussion is the school's Head Teacher VI, MAPEH Department Mr. Augusto D. Baldoz.

Aside from the on-court activation, TCL and Araullo High School formalized their partnership with a contract signing ceremony, Representing the former are TCL CEO Peter Chen, TCL Deputy Marketing Director Shae Yu, TCL Deputy Product Director of Air Conditioner Bert Cheung, TCL Brand Manager Joseph Cernitchez, together with Rain or Shine Assistant Brand Manager Red Magcase, while Assistant School Principal II Ms. Ebuena P. Alvarez served as the latter's representation.

As part of the partnership, TCL donated PhP 300,000 worth of televisions and air-conditioning units to Araullo High School.

Chen says of the partnership, "We're happy to launch this partnership officially. As we celebrate International Olympic Day and our status as the Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, this basketball clinic perfectly embodies TCL's commitment to ‘Inspire Greatness’ among hopeful kids who aspire to do their best in the field of basketball."

He adds, "Through this endeavor, we aim to impart Olympic values to our Filipinos. We hope our partnership with Araullo High School becomes a hub for more vibrant, engaging activities, inspiring people to connect and celebrate through sports. Here's to more exciting and fulfilling events like this in the future!"

Recently renewing their partnership with the Olympic Movement, securing the title as the official Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner in the Home Audiovisual Equipment and Home Appliances category, TCL also was honored in special ceremony at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland last June 22, where their name was added onto the Donors' Wall, highlghting their contributions through smart terminals and display solutions, which are set to enhance the development of sports and culture through innovative technology, while also reaffirming the Olympic ethos of "Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together" through its commitment to "Inspire Greatness"

Unveiling the commemorative marble brick are representatives from TCL, including TCL Technology COO Kevin Wang, as well as from the International Olympic Committee, among them being President Thomas Bach and President-elect Kirsty Coventry, as well as Olympic Museum Director Angelita Teo.

TCL officials were also invited to the inauguration of Coventry as the IOC's tenth president the next day, as she became the first female and the first African IOC president. In a way, Coventry's ascent resonates with TCL, as its "TCLforHer" initiative is dedicated towards empowering women globally through technology and culture.

Fresh from the afterglow of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and leading up to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, TCL will remain active in supporting the IOC's initiatives towards advancing the evolution of the Olympic Movement.

Z Flip6, Olympic edition

The Olympic community is an elite one, and all of these athletes will be given a pretty cool gift.

All participants competing in the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris will be receiving a special, custom-built Galaxy Z Flip6 smartphone starting July 18, in collaboration with the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees (IOC and IPC).

In making the announcement,  Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics shares, "Samsung has pushed the boundaries of mobile technology in support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and its athletes for nearly three decades. We are honored to deliver our newest Galaxy innovation to the inspiring athletes of Paris 2024 – and give them the opportunity to experience the powerful and intelligent Galaxy Z Flip6 firsthand, even before its official market launch. We are excited to see how our technology opens up athletes’ Games-time experience like never before — from creating meaningful connections, to sharing and capturing lifelong memories while in Paris and beyond."

Recently launched in Paris, the Olympic Edition of the Galaxy Z Flip6 is a continuation of Samsung's partnership with the Olympic programme in providing cutting-edge technology and mobile innovation across the Games, having been a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner since 1988. The athletes will be the first-ever users of this smartphone, as general availability will only take place starting July 24.

For the special Olympic Edition, the Galaxy Z Flip6 comes in a striking yellow colorway adorned with the Olympic rings and the Paralympic agitos in gold. The device comes with an exclusive Flipsuit Case, designed by Parisian Men's Luxury Maison, Berluti, who also designed host France's Opening Ceremony outfits. The Flipsuit Case is made from Venezia leather, with a unique patina featuring a vibrant color mix inspired by the Olympic rings, celebrating the Olympic spirit and values of excellence and unity.

The device comes pre-loaded with a full suite of exclusive services and useful apps, and is the first Olympic Edition featuring Galaxy AI, whose latest technological innovations will help shape the athletes' experiences whilst at the French capital.

From a communication perspective:

• Live translation of calls  - translates phone calls directly on the device in real-time into sixteen different languages, making it easy for athletes to call the Olympic hotlines and local contacts in their native language, using Samsung native and select third-party apps.

• Interpreter  - instantly translates live conversations, allowing athletes to chat with other athletes and volunteers and receive a live translation of what they’re saying on screen – while still speaking face-to-face, thanks to the phone’s unique dual screen.

• Composer  - helps to draft emails and social media posts in apps by using simple keywords. For social media app specifically, it even analyzes the tone of past content, making it easier for athletes to express their excitement at some of the competition’s most thrilling or poignant moments.

As for a competition / creative perspective, the Galaxy AI technology ain't no slouch as well:

• Instant Slow-mo  - allows athletes to record, share and analyze their performances in slow motion, making it easier for them to refine their technique.

• Photo Assist  - enables athletes to get the perfect shot every time, by resizing, repositioning or even removing unwanted objects within photos.

Bundled onto the Z Flip6 is an Orange eSIM with 100GB 5G data. as well as two years of Samsung's international warranty. Also, official apps of the International Olympic Committee, such as Athlete 365, Olympic Shop, Paris 2024, Transport Accred App, and IOC hotline are pre-loaded to make it perfectly suitable for use in an out of the Games.

In partnership with fellow Worldwide Olympic Partner The Coca-Cola Co., an in-app pass via Samsung Wallet will allow the athletes to be able to avail of free beverages in vending machines located throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Village. It also will have an unlimited complimentary public transport access card, in partnership with Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), which is perfect for going around Paris and the surrounding region.

In addition, Galaxy Z Flip6 will have a suite of interactive, Paris 2024-themed apps. The time-honored tradition of collecting and exchanging pins during the Games will now go digital as well, through PinQuest and Galaxy experience. Adding some fun is Olympic Go!, which is the official Olympic Game, and Galaxy Skateboard, which features the Phyrges, the Paris 2024 mascots.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 will also make history in the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics by being the first device that can be used at the podium during the medal ceremony. Traditionally, athletes have been prohibited from bringing their personal belongings to said ceremony, including mobile phones. As such, athletes are unable to record a potential core memory. That will now change, as medalists will have a chance to channel their emotions through a new, victory selfie. Thanks to Samsung's technology, it will then map and sort the athletes’ selfies by sport and upload them to Athlete365 in real-time, which will allow athletes to save and share their iconic moments with family and fans.

Fans in Paris will be able to check out the special Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition at the Olympic™ rendezvous @ Samsung showcases, including the one at Champs-Elysees 125, starting July 12.

Samsung readies Olympics and Paralympics campaign for Paris 2024

c/o Samsung

With the Paris Olympics less than a hundred days left, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, ramped up its efforts for the Games by launching its campaign and held its grand opening for its Olympic™️ rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 showcase.

Called "Open always wins," it highlights the belief that openness enables new perspectives and infinite possibilities, something that both the Olympics and Paralympics share.

Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business TM Roh says, "As a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, Samsung has been driving innovation and delivering cutting-edge technology and experiences at the Games for nearly 40 years. The way we enjoy the Games has evolved dramatically over time, with technology playing a critical role in bringing the Olympic spirit to life. This is even more true as we embark on a ‘Games wide open,’ and we are excited to bring Olympic fans and athletes closer than ever by opening up new experiences and meaningful connections at Paris 2024 with our ‘Open always wins’ campaign."

The campaign will include stories from its Team Samsung Galaxy sporting ambassadors, with skateboarder Aurélien Giraud and breakdancer Sarah Bee of France and para-sprinter Johannes Floors of Germany demonstrates how being open enables you to do extraordinary things, as seen here.

Also to coincide with the launch, Samsung also unveiled a brand new physical showcase in Paris. Called Olympic™️ rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125, it will take fans across an epic journey to Paris 2024 through iconic experiences, with the chance to relive the biggest highlights of previous Games with Galaxy, as well as explore the latest innovations from Samsung, which includes Galaxy AI.

The exhibit was preceded by a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included Roh, Team Samsung Galaxy ambassadors Joanne Defay (surfing, France), Karam Singh (breakdancing, Great Britain), and Ugo Didier (para-swimming, France), International Olympic Committee Managing Director for Television and Marketing Services Anne-Sophie Voumard, Paris Deputy Mayor for Sport, Olympic and Paralympic Games Pierre Rabadan, Paris 2024 Organizing Committee Director General Étienne Thobois.

Samsung collaborated with Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel for this project. Taking inspiration from Parisian salons during the Age of Enlightenment, the space is designed to celebrate openness to new perspectives and possibilities through reflections and optical illusions that evoke feeling of openness, harmony and connection.

According to Nouvel, "The entire space is designed to celebrate Samsung’s commitment to openness. The abstract graphic façade captures the reflections of movements and lights that appear and disappear in an instant, while the matte, reflective white mirrors in the lobby invite discovery of latest innovations."

Voumard adds, "We’re excited to see our shared values celebrated for these ‘Games wide open’ at this Olympic™️ rendezvous @ Samsung. Samsung has played a huge part in elevating the Olympic Games’ fan experience through their innovative technology over the decades, and we’re impressed to see them take it to the next level with this showcase as well as through many ways they will support staging of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games here in Paris."

Located at 125 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the activation is set to be open to the public starting May 3, and will last until October 31. Operating hours is 10am-8pm on Mondays to Saturdays, and 11am-8pm on Sundays. It will serve a venue for a series of special events in the run-up to the Games.

Expect similar such spaces to be opened across the city and its surroundings, including Olympic Park, the Olympic and Paralympic Village, and the Main Press Centre. There will also be a showcase for the latest Galaxy innovations and charging stations at key Olympic and Paralympic venues.

Road to Paris starts for the Filipinas

c/o Philippine Football Federation

The path to Paris in 2024 officially begins on Wednesday night Manila time, as the Philippines kicks off Group E action in the first round of Asian Olympic Qualifying at the Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan.

The Filipinas are set to face off against Pakistan in the opening match at 7pm, with the hosts tangling against Hong Kong three hours later.

Head coach Alen Stajcic shares about the road ahead, "The Olympics is a massive event and we’ve never been to the final group stage ever before so trying to top this group and getting out of this group is a difficult assignment. We’re looking forward to the challenge and we’re confident we can get to the next round."

Serving as their first opponents, Pakistan is coming off a four-nation tournament in Saudi Arabia, where they defeated Comoros, drew against the hosts, and lost to Mauritius. The South Asians will be coming in with a slight disadvantage as a result of Nadia Khan suffering an ACL injury. Hoping to fill the massive hole the Doncaster Belle leaves are captain Maria Khan and defender Malika-e-Noor. London Seaward's attacking midfielder Zahmena Malik returns, while Amina Hanif potentially could make her national team debut.

Stajcic shares, "Pakistan has just resumed playing recently and obviously they are emerging and developing and an unknown threat. We don’t know how good they are. There’s always a little bit of anxiety because you don’t know what you’re going to get."

The Philippines will next face off against Tajikistan on Saturday at 10pm PST, capping off with a 7pm PST matchup against Hong Kong on Tuesday.

When asked about the hosts, Stajcic says, "Tajikistan is in a similar boat (like Pakistan). They’re both unknowns in international football, but are starting to really emerge and develop as national teams. We’ve got to respect those countries because we don’t know what kind of game we’ll have until we actually get in there. In that respect, this makes it a difficult challenge."

As for Hong Kong, Stajcic notes, "It was only 18 months ago that we scraped to a 2-1 win to qualify for the Asian Cup, we have to treat them with a lot of respect. That’s going to be a tough battle, it could have easily been Hong Kong making it to the Asian Cup so we know that it was going to be a tricky assignment."

This is the first meeting between the Filipinas and Hong Kong since that match in Tashkent, where Chandler McDaniel's 87th minute game-winner ensured then-manager Marlon Maro's side advanced to the Asian Cup, setting the stage for the Filipinas' historic achievement in India.

McDaniel is among the players Stajcic called up for the competition, as she aims to return to form after suffering an injury during the Asian Cup. Also being called up after her impressive form in the youth level is Bella Pasion.

Only the top team gets to advance to the next round, joining six others alongside Australia, China, Japan, and both Koreas, who each have earned byes. Second round action will feature these twelve teams split into four groups, with the top teams of each group, and the best second-place team advancing to the final round. From there, two knockout matches will officially determine Asian representation in the Summer Games.

The competition serves as additional preparation for the Philippines' impending debut in the FIFA Women's World Cup later this year. They used the last FIFA women's football international window to participate in the Pinatar Cup in Spain, where they battled against Wales and Scotland before allowing five goals against Iceland.

Olympics pathway now charted for the Filipinas

The road for the Philippines towards Paris and the 2024 Olympics has been determined, with the successful implementation of the draw for the first round of action at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

"I’m very excited to know our opponents," according to head coach Alen Stajcic, under whose leadership helped steer the country towards its upcoming debut in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co hosted by Australia and New Zealand, as well as its best-ever position in the latest FIFA Women's Football Rankings at 53rd overall. He adds, "It’s a long and difficult road to qualifying for Paris. But qualifying through Round 1 and trying to get some matches against the big nations of the AFC is a very enticing and appealing prospect."

Drawn into Group E, the Filipinas will be crossing paths against Hong Kong, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, the first two of which the Philippines has had recent success against.

In the road towards Asian Cup Qualification back in September 24, 2021, the Philippines defeated Hong Kong, 2-1, which was their third victory in ten meetings against each other. Meanwhile, the Filipinas has twice against Tajikistan, including a 3-1 win back in 2018 during the first round of qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Pakistan, ranked 177th overall by FIFA, completes the field, which will be played between April 3-11 at a venue to be determined.

The Filipinas will be facing the South Asians first, followed by the Central Asians and ending against their East Asian opposition, with the dates still to be confirmed.

Only the top team in each of the seven groups will advance in the next round, where the five best Asian teams (DPR Korea, Australia, Japan, China PR, and Korea Republic) are already waiting in the wings.

To advance into the final phase, the twelve teams in Round 2 will be drawn into three groups of four, with a round-robin to determine the winners of each group, as well as the best runner-up, advancing into a playoff for the two available spots for the Olympics.

Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas reveals OQT pool

The FIBA 3x3 pool
With the 2020 FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifiers less than a couple of months away in India, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas recently unveiled its pool of prospects that would likely comprise most, if not all of the national team set to participate in the tournament.

FIBA 3x3 rules mandate that at least four of the six players that will be participating in the OQT and the Olympics should be in the top 10 of the country's rankings. As such, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas announced the composition of its pool based from said rankings, all of which were involved in the Chooks 3x3 tourneys that took place in 2019.

Leading the cast of ten are the country's two best Pinoy players in Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol.

The remaining members of the pool is Munzon's teammate in Pasig in Dylan Ababou, and Pasaol's teammates in Bataan in Karl Dehesa and Leonard Santillan, as well as the likes of Chris De Chavez, Gab Banal, Jaypee Belencion, Leo De Vera, and Ryan Monteclaro.

Preparation for the tournament has been continuous ever since the announcement that the Philippines made the qualifiers, with league commissioner Eric Altamirano and the Serbian duo of Stefan Stojacic and Darko Krsman overseeing the sessions, with fellow Chooks 3x3 participants Troy Rike and Franky Johnson pitching in.

League owner Ronald Mascariñas shares, "This is our last shot at the Olympics that is why we are going all out for this." He adds, "Our players have been training non-stop since November, giving just a few days of break during the holidays."

Set to take place on March 18-22, the OQT seeks to complete the Olympic field in 3x3, filling the remaining three slots available.

Philippines ascends in FIBA 3x3 World Rankings

BAVI head honcho Ronald Mascarinas, flanked by Chooks-to-Go Ambassadors Kai Sotto and Kobe Paras, and Butch Antonio of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
Another milestone for 3x3 basketball in the Philippines was achieved in the aftermath of the recently-concluded Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 Patriot's Cup presented by Coca-Cola.

Based from an update on the FIBA 3x3 standings last Sunday, the Philippines moved up to 24th in the world rankings, which is the highest they have achieved.

By making it to the top 24 in the world, the country would at least earn a spot in the Qualifying Tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

League owner Ronald Mascariñas shares, "This is a surprising development even for us. We started the year at 60 and many said that making it to an Olympic Qualifying Tournament was improbable.

"But with the people who believed in the dream, the team owners, the players, the sponsors, and the hard work of our staff, we were able to crack the top 24," he adds.

Coming into the Grand Finals of the Patriot's Cup, the Philippines was in 28th place with 6,257,888 points.

After the tournament, which is classified as a level-8 tournament by FIBA, the country tacked on 434,452 points, moving it past the Dominican Republic, Canada, Indonesia, and Switzerland to be ranked 24th overall.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is very much appreciative of the efforts of the likes of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 in raising the profile of the sport and improving the nation's standing in the global 3x3 scene.

SBP president Al Panlilio shares, "Chooks-to-Go as a private promoter has been instrumental in helping the country increase its federation rankings and we are thankful to them."

He adds, "Our Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 national teams’ participation in international tournaments combined with local activations initiated by Smart Communications and other local promoters have also helped the Men’s and Women’s rankings in the Open, U-23, and U-18 categories."

The federation provided assistance to Chooks-to-Go with regards to their participation in FIBA-sanctioned tournaments, whilst the national team recently took part in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.

Eight slots are allocated for Olympic 3x3 basketball, both for men's and women's. Hosts Japan already snapped up a spot, with the top three nations in the FIBA 3x3 rankings by November 1, 2019 will also earn spots.

Three spots will be handed out to the winners of three Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, which one has to be in the top 24 of the rankings to automatically earn such a bid.

A final spot will be awarded to the champion of the Universality-driven OQT that takes place on April 2020.

Now that the Philippines has reached the top 24, the goal has evolved to maintaining that standing, which entails conducting additional tournaments and participation in international meets.

Panlilio says, "We are truly headed towards the right direction and the SBP is overwhelmed by the support of private organizers who have significantly contributed in SBP’s mission to continuously improve in our world ranking to enable us to qualify to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics."

Mascariñas adds, "The fight is not yet over. Yes, we are happy that we made it to the top 24 but the challenge now is to maintain our standing or go even higher."

The BAVI head honcho also revealed a couple of new developments, "We are currently in talks with FIBA to host a Manila Challenger this September. Wilkins-Balanga is also preparing for the Bucharest Challenger this August. We are already preparing for our third conference, which is the Magiting Cup."

The option to potentially bid for the chance to host an OQT is on the table as well, in case the Philippines falls out of the Top 24 by the cutoff date.

Trota #ALLInForGold speech for Max's Group Inc.

Max's Group Inc. President and CEO Robert F. Trota

Our friends at Max's Group also shared the speech that their President and CEO, Robert F. Trota gave at the unveiling of their partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The complete speech can be read below:
To our friends from the media and of course, to all our POC representatives, good afternoon.

Mr. Ricky Vargas, Mr. Patrick Gregorio, Mr. Ed Picson - who are all here today, thank you for gracing us with your presence! It is because of you that this partnership has come to fruition. Mr. Gregorio, thank you for championing this partnership. This would not have been possible without your genuine care and valuable guidance.

Today marks another important milestone for Max’s Group as we formally announce our exciting partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Max’s Group is a brand that has local roots but is fast making strides in the global arena, with a number of well-loved brands delighting customers from all around the world.

As a local brand that champions Filipino food both here and internationally, so too are our athletes bannering the Philippine flag in the global arena, showing what we as Filipinos are capable of.

Together with the POC, we will make sure that our hardworking athletes get the backing that they need. As well as support the welfare for their families because we know how important family is to our athletes.

Max’s Group’s contribution to the POC will be used to support our athletes as they train, compete, and triumph in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

OUR PARTNERSHIP will cover THESE 3 key points: Flagbearers, Families, and Fans.

The Flagbearers are our athletes. Our contribution will fund their training and provide an exciting incentive of PHP3 million which will be divided among all gold medalists.

The Families are the support systems of our athletes. Our brands should not just nourish the athletes themselves but give them something to spread delight to their own families.

The Fans are the rallying force behind our athletes. We believe there is no fan like a Filipino fan. And that’s why it’s important we give three pairs a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics live. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS.

Thank you everyone for coming here to show your support. Together, let’s go #AllInForGold!

Max's Group goes #AllInForGold in Tokyo 2020

From L-R: Jim T. Fuentebella, Cristina Trota-Garcia, Carolyn Trota-Salud, and Dave T. Fuentebella (Max's Group Directors), Max's Group President and CEO Robert F. Trota, Philippine Olympic Committee President Ricky P. Vargas, POC Spokesperson and Communications Director Ed Picson, and POC Secreatry-General Patrick Gregorio

For a Filipino athlete, it is important to have some semblance of a support system around themselves, in order for them to focus on one's goals.

One of the loftiest goals for such an athlete would be to finally end the drought of an Olympic gold medal. And one private entity has made it its goal to help achieve that milestone.

Last week, Max's Group Inc. made official its involvement with the Olympic quest, forming a partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee.

The casual dining powerhouse, which has the likes of Max's Chicken, Yellow Cab, Pancake House, Krispy Kreme, and Jamba Juice under its banner, is investing an initial PhP 10.5 million to help Filipino athletes with their Olympic preparations.

Included on that incentive is a PhP 3 million cash reward for the much-sought-after Olympic gold. The initial investment also includes POC funding, as well as catering for POC events.

This partnership makes the Max's Group the first major local brand to pledge support for Tokyo 2020. By doing so, MGI hopes that they can inspire others to help our Filipino athletes get the resources they need in order to excel in the world's biggest sporting event.

MGI President and CEO Robert F. Trota shares, "We understand the work and support needed by our Filipino athletes to truly succeed in the global arena, and we want our athletes to thrive in this highly competitive environment. We’ve structured our pledge so that we address what we call the three Fs: Flagbearers, Families, and Fans. The Flagbearers, our athletes, will receive funds for their training and a cash prize of PHP3 million for gold medal wins. We will also make sure to nourish not just our Flagbearers, but also their Families, so they don’t have to worry about their welfare while they train for and compete in the Olympics. Lastly, we’re giving the Fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch and cheer for our Philippine team live in Tokyo 2020, because we believe that Filipinos are the greatest fans in the world."

POC President Ricky Vargas adds that the partnership allows Filipino excellence in food to trickle down into sports, adding "Filipino athletes have the drive and determination to rise above the competition. With our partnership with MGI for Tokyo 2020, we will be able to ground a new wave of Filipino pride for the world to see."

Aside from the contributions towards the athletes and their families and the POC, MGI is also establishing a special campaign through its different restaurant brands, dubbed as "All In For Gold."

Each of the brands will have their own specific product innovations, food bundles, and marketing campaigns that would help in raising additional funds for our Olympic athletes.

MGI is also looking to send three pairs of customers to Tokyo to partake of the Olympic festivities next year.

Trota believes that their partnership with the POC for Tokyo 2020 is step in unifying all Filipinos to showcase and champion the best Filipino talent, "Just as we at Max’s Group are championing Filipino cuisine here and abroad, so too are our athletes bannering the Philippine flag on the world stage. We hope that our partnership with POC will inspire a greater outpouring of support for our athletes, their families, and for Philippine sports, as well as instill being proudly Filipino."

MGI is no stranger to supporting sports, with Max's serving as one of the sponsors of Gilas Pilipinas back in 2014, and Yellow Cab being having served as sponsors for numerous football events in the country.

Olympic Movement and Allianz join forces

A new partnership.
The Olympic Movement has found a new ally this week, as it was announced that Allianz has been named as one of its Worldwide Olympic Partners.

In establishing this partnership, the global insurer will now be a global Olympics sponsor between 2021 to 2028, which includes. the Winter Games in 2022 and 2026, as well as the Summer Games in 2024 and 2028. For China, France, and Spain, Allianz has secured marketing rights starting next year.

Allianz will also work with the International Olympic Committee in providing innovative and integrated insurance solutions that would support the Olympic Movement, with the objective of providing insurance solutions to the different National Olympic Committees worldwide and their respective athletes, whether as an individual or as a team. Aside from this, both Allianz and the Olympic Movement aim to use the power of sport to connect with new audiences through its digital channels, including the Olympic Channel.

IOC President Thomas Bach says, "This new partnership demonstrates the global appeal and strength of the Olympic Movement, and we are delighted to be working together in the long term with Allianz to support sports around the world. Allianz has built a global business founded on trust. With this partnership, together we are building a foundation based on mutual trust. Allianz also has a strong sporting heritage and, in line with the Olympic Agenda 2020, we share a digital ambition of connecting with young people around the world to promote the Olympic values and the power of sport."

Allianz CEO Oliver Bäte adds, "I am thrilled that we are joining a global community of athletes and people enthusiastic about sport and team work – in addition to our existing strong partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Through the IOC’s digital and social channels, we can connect with more people than ever before and offer them our expertise in insurance. We believe the world is a better place when people have the courage to leave differences behind and stand together to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for the societies they live in."

Meanwhile, Head of Group Market Management and Distribution Jean-Marc Pailhol shares, "As a world-leading insurer, Allianz is directly embedded in all the great events which make and transform our global society. That is why becoming the Worldwide TOP Partner in the insurance category of the IOC and the IPC is important for us. Together with the IOC and the IPC, this is a perfect way to share our passion for sport and the social, physical and mental benefits it brings to humanity.”

Allianz in the Philippines is represented by Allianz PNB Life, and when asked about how this new partnership can be framed in the local setting, Chief Marketing Officer Gae Martinez believes that it "emphasizes the values of integrity, teamwork, and inclusivity, which are relevant values for Filipinos." She also views that the foray into engaging digital natives is something they are familiar with in the Philippines, noting the influence digital conversations have on consumer behavior.

Brand and Communications Director Rei Abrazaldo adds, "Allianz and the Olympics coming together will amplify the message of Allianz to dare individuals to pursue the best versions of themselves and as families and communities to work in collaboration to advance a better working environment."

Fate of FIBA Olympic Qualifying hosting moved to January

The waiting will have to be a little bit longer.

FIBA on Thursday revealed that it has moved the announcement of the three winning bidders for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments from its previously scheduled date of November 23 to January 2016. Also being moved to that month is the Draw Ceremony to determine the composition of the different tournaments.

The FIBA Executive Committee only cited "technical reasons" behind the postponement in informing the 10 national basketball federations that made a bid for the hosting rights (Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Iran, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Serbia, Turkey, and the Philippines).

The Olympic Qualifying Tournaments are the means FIBA has of determining the final three berths in the Rio Olympics next August, with the champions of each tournament securing a spot in the competition.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Inc., under the stewardship of its President, Manny V. Pangilinan, put it a bid for the right to host one of the Qualifiers before the deadline FIBA set, in the aftermath of losing to China in the finals of the FIBA-Asia Championships.

FIBA has until the end of the year to evaluate the bids of all the participating federations in this process.
