United City secures shirt sponsorship from Allianz

Allianz PNB Life's Alexander Grenz & Gino Riola,
with the UCFC home and away kits
United City Football Club unveiled its latest partner on Tuesday, with Allianz serving as the shirt sponsor for both continental and local play.

UCFC co-founder and president Eric M. Gottschalk shares, "We are proud to announce this ground-breaking partnership with Allianz for our Club.  Not only were we able to bring such a leading global brand with a strong reputation to engage in long-term sports partnerships but also because it shows that football partnerships are possible in the Philippines – even amidst a global pandemic."

He adds, "Football has been steadily on the rise in the country, and having Allianz support our Club might be just the attention-getter for other brands to support local and regional football."

Concluding, Eric says, "I would like to personally thank Alexander Grenz, President of Allianz PNB Life and his team led by Mr. Gino Riola, Allianz PNB Life's Chief Marketing Officer, for their shared vision for football in the Philippines. We look forward to delivering a strong partnership across all of our platforms for the mutual benefits of all parties."

Allianz, represented in the country by Allianz PNB Life, is globally recognized by its football club partnerships with both Bayern Munich and Juventus, having secured the naming rights for their respective home stadiums. In addition, they set to become the Worldwide Olympic Insurance Partner following the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Locally, Allianz PNB Life has its own initiatives to help grow the sport, helping organize the National Youth Futsal Invitational in the last couple of years pre-pandemic, as well as sending outstanding young Filipino footballers to the Allianz Junior Football Camp regionally in Thailand and globally in Germany.

During the pandemic, they have conducted programs seeking to establish sustainable transport for Filipinos through cycling. Through the Allianz Ride Safe campaign, they have formed a partnership with the San Juan local government to launch the first solar-powered bike pit stop and repair station in the country this past November, whilst also donating bollards for use with the city's bike lanes.

Last month, the campaign also donated artistically designed bike racks to the City of Manila, allowing bikers to park and lock their bikes on these structures safely.

On this new partnership, Allianz PNB Life President Alexander Grenz shares, "Allianz aims to be an Insurer of Sport, and we have long-standing partnerships with football clubs and stadiums all over the world. We are very excited to extend that tradition to the Philippines by being the official shirt sponsors of United City Football Club, a team we are certain will capture the hearts and minds of fans in the country and the Asian region."

The partnership sees the Allianz brand being shown on both the home and away kits of UCFC for their upcoming AFC Champions League campaign and the Philippines Football League. The brand will also be on the replica Chronos merchandise kits set to be sold to fans.

Three Pinoys partake of Allianz football camp

From L-R: FC Bayern International Coach Thomas Döllner, James Carl Tuazon, Keanne Maicah Alamo, FC Bayern Official Mascot Berni, Fred Angelo dela Peña, and FC Bayern legend and former Croatian international Ivica Olic
43 lucky teenage footballers from across Asia recently got the chance to learn and develop their skills at The Arena in Singapore during The Allianz Explorer Camp Football Edition Asia 2019.

These kids aged between 14-16 were considered as the standouts of their respective qualifiers that took place in China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. They had the privilege to be trained over four days under the tutleage of FC Bayern Munich ambassador and former Croatian international Ivica Olic.

The camp and the presence of the German champions is in line with their long-term partnership, one that has been in place since 2000 and enhanced by the presence of their home stadium, the Allianz Arena, since 2005.

For the Philippines, the two boys and a girl that were selected for this camp came from the Allianz National Youth Futsal Invitational, which took place at various location across the country a few months ago. Fred Angelo dela Pena came via Dipolog, James Tuazon is a product of Central Philippines University in Iloilo, while Keanne Alamo is a youth standout who represented the country in the AFC Under-16 Girls Qualifiers last year.

Outstanding participants from this Explorer Camp will be given the opportunity to represent Asia at the Allianz Global Football Camp in Munich. The chosen eighteen will get to experience training sessions with the FC Bayern Munich youth coaches and potentially have an opportunity to meet select first team players.

Considered as part of the Allianz Global Explorer Program, the camp is designed to empower promising Generation Z youngsters through exposure to football-focused fitness workshops, footwork techniques, technical and tactical skills, and competitive play.

Allianz Asia-Pacific Head of Market Management Center of Excellence Gino Riola shares, "We are proud to play our part in creating an environment for young children across Asia to learn new skills, explore new places, and collaborate with new friends.  Our Allianz regional initiative provides a great foundation for youngsters to enhance their football and team building talents, while gaining new skills and experiences with the technologies of the future.  It goes without saying that the future is bright for the young participants and we look forward to watching them grow."

With Allianz serving as a global sponsor for the Drone Racing League with the Allianz World Championship Season, the camp also features drone racing as part of the global financial services provider's thrust towards embracing future technologies. Three-time world champion Dunkan Bossion will be demonstrating why he is one of the best in his field, and will oversee a hands-on drone-making workshop that would expose the participants to advanced technology.

The Explorer Camp also included presentations on the final day, for high achievers who showed outstanding performance across the four days.

Allianz aims to promote "Diversity in Football" with Sugod Malaya FC

The Sugod Malaya U16 squad with Mr. Mark Angos, Secretary General, Sugod Malaya FC (standing, far left) and Ms. Josephine Bulilan, Sales Manager for North Metro Manila Region, Allianz PNB Life (standing, far right)
Allianz remains committed in its support for the sport of football in the country, with their most recent endeavour of having supported the exploits of grassroots side Sugod Malaya FC in their recent competitions.

According to Allianz Philippines Chief Marketing Officer Gae Martinez, "Globally, Allianz is known to be a staunch supporter of football, and we want to promote that same passion here in the Philippines. When Sugod Malaya came to us for help, we immediately saw that they are an organization that represents our goals and ideals for the sport—that it’s not just a game to be played by a few, but by all."

A non-profit football club established six years ago, Sugod Malaya has close to three hundred active members that span the entire financial spectrum, from the well-to-do to the poorest of the poor. Co-Founder and current Sugod Malaya Secretary-General Mark Duane Angos shares, "When we started, our dream was to establish a club that is really free, regardless of whatever the player’s background is."

He adds, "We were forming a team back then and realized that it lacked diversity. At that time, I was doing a community outreach program for San Beda and got in touch with folks in Tondo." Mark noted that football in the Philippines is perceived as a sport for the rich, something that the club intends to change.

That connection with Tondo allowed them to eventually get four kids from the area, which helped complete their team that participated in a tournament in Bacolod, one of the premier football hotbeds in the country. Angos notes, "When they played in Bacolod, they really played well together.

From being a football club, Sugod Malaya eventually evolved into being a community development tool, with over half of the current club membership comes from impoverished backgrounds, thirty to forty percent of which is being categorized as part of the "poorest of the poor.". From relying on generous donations, according to Angos, "It is now a club that provides an opportunity for kids from all backgrounds to play and, at the same time, have their talent seen and discovered by the global community."

The club has also managed to participate in overseas youth competitions, like the Borneo Cup in Malaysia and the Singa Cup in Singapore. They also even managed to play in Europe, having participated in the Mediterranean Cup in Barcelona, where they competed against the likes of the fabled La Masia of FC Barcelona.

The idea of being able to participate in overseas competition was thought to be a pipe dream, until the entry of the likes of Allianz came in.

Mark notes, "We knew, from the perspective of cost, that Barcelona would be too much even though its organizers were nice enough to give us partial subsidy. At some point, we thought of backing out because we felt that participating in one tournament might affect our entire program—we have a team playing in Europe and getting that experience, but then the other scholars would be suffering because we’d run out of funds and resources. So when Allianz and like-minded individuals came in, we saw the light at the end of the tunnel." He also pointed out that "When we heard that they were willing to help us, we were excited. We are very thankful and, at the same time, excited to see that we have represented Allianz well."

Angos noted some lessons they learned from being involved in this kind of competition.

"You can see that it (playing against Barcelona) reinforced their determination," he says, adding that "In the Philippines, they would cheer for you when you make a goal. In Spain and the rest of Europe, the crowd will clap and appreciate your good pass, even if you don’t score, and when you make a good save. They can appreciate the strengths of the whole team."

Being able to participate overseas has opened the doors for Sugod Malaya to other opportunities, as it allowed them to secure invitations to play in Colombia, Ireland, and Portugal, among others, which dovetails into their goal of making Filipinos realize that "Football is a sport for Filipinos."

Allianz set for 2019 ANYFI for grassroots futsal

Rei Abrazaldo, Brand Communications and Digital Director, Allianz PNB Life (seated 3rd from right); Kevin Goco, Futsal Head, Philippine Football Federation (seated center); and Danny Moran, Chairman, Henry V. Moran Foundation (seated 3rd from left) during the launch of the Third Allianz National Youth Futsal Invitational at the Marco Polo Hotel in Davao City. They were joined by Davao Football Association, PFF, and Allianz PNB Life officials
Allianz Philippines has remained committed to developing grassroots football in the last few years, with an emphasis towards futsal, which is played on an indoor court.

This year is no different, as they resume their partnership with the Henry V. Moran Foundation and the Philippine Football Federation through the Allianz National Youth Futsal Invitational (ANYFI).

The ANYFI aims to encourage youngsters to aspire for excellence in sports, particularly in football through futsal, with the hope and belief that it eventually lead to participation in international competition.

To launch the 2019 edition of the ANYFI, Allianz, PFF, and the HVM Foundation went to Davao to formally launch the program and at the same time help boost the sport no only in the city but also in the rest of Mindanao.

Allianz Philippines Brand Communications and Digital Director Rei Abrazaldo shares, "The sport of football has progressed a lot since we started our futsal invitational three years ago. We have sent our most talented Filipino players in one of the best if not the best football camps in Asia and Europe. Many of them have advanced in their careers getting into the national team and representing the country in games abroad. We have also brought them to train at the FC Bayern training grounds of Sabener Strasse in Munich, Germany, and they have shown that they can indeed play amongst the best young football and futsal players in the world."

Henry V. Moran Foundation Chairman Danny Moran says, "The Philippines is teeming with talents in football. We just need to give our youth the support and venue to further hone their skills and excel in the sport. In the Philippines, this can be easily achieved through futsal, a sport that can be organized and played in gyms. It’s proven across the world that futsal develops better football players, and our experience tells us that futsal is an appropriate development approach for the Philippine setting." The Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to help the youth in public schools across the country through football and futsal.

The Philippine Football Federation expressed full support for this particular private sector initiative, with its Futsal Department Head Kevin Goco remarking, "Our young players’ achievements will not only make their parents, teams, and communities proud; they can likewise make their country proud. We have seen it before and we hope we continue seeing it in the future as the popularity of the sport progresses in the coming years. Futsal is the world’s fastest growing indoor sport, and we feel it has massive potential in engaging more communities, creating world class athletes, and improving lives."

PFF General Secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes adds, "The PFF is always pleased to see private entities like Allianz and the Henry V. Moran Foundation in helping us grow the sport of futsal in the country.  Allianz’s support is a welcome act by the PFF and we hope that the children who join this tournament will have fun and display their skills and talents throughout the competition.

For the 2019 edition, the ANYFI will have different local and regional qualifiers spread all over the country, wtih the top two teams securing berths into the regional finals in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The schedule is as follows:

A select group will take part in the continental camp in Singapore with the opportunity to participate in the main camp in Munich.

Last year's ANYFI eventually yielded a select number of standouts that managed to participate in the Allianz Explorer Camp in Germany, with Juan Miguel Basmayor and Catherine Angelica Bradborn in particular securing medals. In addition, Ivy Tapiz also made the trip to Germany as one of the campers.

Allianz supports Aeta's quest to make OCR National Team pool

Allianz supports five Aeta youths from Villa Maria Integrated School in their quest to be part of the OCR national team pool. (L-R): Gellyann B. Soria; Ivy O. Pelayo; Ms. Gae Martinez, Chief Marketing Officer, Allianz PNB Life; Jacob D. King; Danilo B. Yugyug; and Miracle D. Lansang
Allianz Philippines reaffirmed their commitment for the quest of the Aetas to make the national team pool for Obstacle Course Racing.

17-year old Gellyann Soria, 16-year old Ivy Pelayo, 19-year old Danilo Yugyug, 21-year old Miracle Lansang, and 22-year old Jacob King took part in the 5K Elite Category of the Conquer Challenge portion of the Allianz OCR Sunday last March 31 inside Filinvest City in Alabang. The five, who all hail from the Villa Maria Integrated School in Porac, Pampanga, had taken part previously in the Dare to Conquer Challenge back in December and were specifically chosen to participate at Allianz OCR Sunday.

Yugyug in particular finished in the top 15 in the Men's Division after going through twenty obstacles without penalty.

Allianz Philippines Chief Marketing Officer Gae Martinez shares, "Allianz is supporting the quest of the five Aeta youth from Villa Maria in Pampanga to be part of the national team pool. We are not putting a timetable, but what’s important as of this point is they get the training they need. We are giving them a chance to excel in the sport and the life skills to discover new opportunities along the way." She adds, "Last December 2018, we brought 25 Aetas to join the Allianz Conquer Challenge in Clark. We were surprised at how the Aetas excelled as they went through each obstacle without prior training. But as our Aetas athletes explained, these obstacles are quite similar to what they go through in their daily lives."

Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation (POSF) President Atty. Al Agra shared that the Allianz OCR Sunday was the first of four National Team Qualifiers to determine the pool for which to choose who can represent the country in international competition, specifically the SEA Games. Agra also adds that the sport is already earmarked as a demonstration sport in the ASEAN Para Games.

Allianz reaffirms OCR commitment for 2019

From Left to Right: James Bungubung, Conquer Challenge; Rei Abrazaldo, Branding Communications and Digital Director, Allianz PNB Life; Gae Martinez, Chief Marketing Officer, Allianz PNB Life; Noel Agra, Ninja OCR; and Jay Lim, OSF.
On Wednesday, Allianz Philippines once again partners with Conquer Challenge Philippines to hold the Allianz OCR Sunday on March 31 at Filinvest Alabang.

According to Allianz PNB Life Chief Marketing Officer Gae Martinez, "As a company that uses sports to connect with communities and people, Allianz Philippines has chosen to be associated with OCR. We saw how the spirit of the sport is strongly aligned and consistent with our brand belief."

Martinez adds, "As in OCR and in life, there are obstacles that you need to overcome before you reach your destination. Both follow a journey of trials, failures, and successes. Many are holding back to make a big step to achieve their dreams or afraid to take the risk. That’s why Allianz is here to give people the courage to move forward and triumph over these obstacles."

Allianz OCR Sunday has two components, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The first one is the Conquer Challenge, which has two divisions: a 1.5km race with eight obstacles and a five-kilometer race with twenty obstacles.  James Bungubung shares that it is one of the few entry-level obstacle course races in the country.

The Conquer Challenge will also feature five Aetas who took part in the Conquer Challenge that took place in Clark last December. 22-year old Jacob King, 21-year old Miracle Lansang, 20-year old Danilo Yugyug, 17-year old Gelyann Soria, and 16-year old Ivy Pelayo are all from Villa Maria in Porac, a community that Allianz adopted.

Martinez says, "We are glad that OCR became an avenue for Allianz to bring to light social inclusion, which is one of most important challenges of our society today and an integral part of our corporate social responsibility."

The afternoon portion of Allianz OCR Sunday will feature Ninja OCR, which is composed of short distance obstacle course races that will not necessitate running. Noel Agra shares that there will be different categories for interested participants: individual (men / female), team, kids, and dogs. Each category will have a varied distance, difficulty, and obstacles.

Interested participants for either race on Allianz OCR Sunday have until March 24 to register. One can be as young as seven years old to take part, with several categories to choose from.

For the 1.5km Conquer Challenge OCR, the fee is PhP 1,200 with a timing chip, race shirt, and finisher mug.

For the 5km Conquer Challenge OCR, the fee is PhP 2,300 in the open category and PhP 2,500 in the elite category. Both will include a race shirt, timing chip, finisher shirt, and a finisher medal.

For the Ninja OCR, the fee is PhP 2,000 for the 100m individual race, with the 400m team race (two men and two women) having a PhP 3,000 fee per team. Both will include a finisher shirt and finisher medal.

Finding a Sisterhood in a Sport Dominated by Men

ICA Girls Football team
In a sport largely identified with men, a team of young girls from the Immaculate Concepcion Academy (ICA) has formed a sisterhood that goes beyond winning games.

The ICA team has been training under the Xavier Football Club every Wednesday, Saturday, and, if needed, on Sunday as well. Their school doesn’t have a field, but that didn’t stop these girls—whose ages range from 11 to 16 years old—from pursuing the sport they love.

While they got into football in different ways—some had family members who were already in the sport while others were enrolled by their moms—the girls share the same passion for it.

“When I started football, I just fell in love with it,” says 15-year-old Traci Lim.

Getting into the sport wasn’t as easy though. It’s not that the girls didn’t have the skill to stand out. Far from it. It’s more because football is still not seen by some people as a sport that women can excel at.

“I think we've all had our fair share of experiences but one that has affected me is when my teacher asked me what sport I played and when I said football, she asked, ‘Isn’t that a man’s sport?’ I didn't see it as an insult; I used it as an inspiration to prove her wrong and do better,” goalkeeper Darryle Tangco shares.

Teammate Iya Pantoja adds: “There are times where some people look down on women who play football like they think we don't have the capability or skill, but there's always that time, at the end of the day, where you can prove that you have the set of skills and you have the heart to compete and play in the sport.”

Like many young football players, Iya dreams of making it to the national team. “That would be really nice, to be able to play on the national team, but my main goal would be to get a scholarship through football, so I can get in to a good school and become a doctor,” she says.

Iya, along with her sister Adrianna, are members of the ICA team.

“We were toddlers when we already started playing football. And then, we tried a bunch of other sports but then; we think football was the one we stayed longest in. I didn’t see why a girl couldn’t play the sport?” Adrianna quips.

Their mother, Bernadette, who was a student athlete back in the day, is the one who encouraged her daughters to get into sports. “Having played football back in college, I am so glad that I now get to share the experience with my daughters. Football is a tie that binds our family. I will never trade the countless weekends spent under the sun watching them play. For as long as they are willing, I will never grow tired of cheering for them. I will always be proud to be called a soccer mom,” she shares.

“We can’t deny that it’s present, but we try to address it through the help of our parents, associations, and coaches. We see that they want us to do what we love, and they’re here to support us,” says Alexa Maclang.

The team has even found a staunch supporter in Allianz, a global insurance company that runs one of the most successful international football camps through a partnership with FC Bayern Munich. One of the pillars of the company’s corporate social responsibility program is social inclusion, which it tackles through sports and sustainability projects. With a company such as Allianz on their side, it was enough to boost the morale of the girls.

Dealing with discrimination is just one of the lessons that the girls have learned from playing football.

“I also learned self-discipline, perseverance, hard work, and balance. These things are important even when you’re outside of the field,” says Iya.

They have learned the value of reliability.

“For example, when you’re running on the field for 45 minutes and you just want to stop because you’re tired, you can’t just do that. Your team needs you,” Iya adds.

Her mom, Bernadette, points out, “The discipline, dedication, commitment and perseverance  learned through this sport will continue to teach them to become more well rounded, relational, agile, determined and strong.  These things are important aspects they need to learn to succeed in life.”

For 13-year-old Daniella Benitez, it’s communicating with others. It can really be quite challenging, given that the girls are of different ages.

“Sometimes, you just have to talk it out,” co-captain Anya Fuentes says of how they resolve conflicts.

“There are times that you have to be the bigger person. Since I’m one of the oldest in the team, I have to be the ate to mediate when there’s a conflict,” she says.

As with real sisters, after all, misunderstandings do happen.

“We would sometimes disagree on some stuff. As a team, we won’t always be in sync. Everybody would have their own opinion. But we always find a way to work together,” Alexa says.

In overcoming both the physical and emotional challenges that come with a sport, the girls are blessed to have the staunch support of their family, especially their mothers. Strong women on their own, these “soccer moms” guide their young daughters not just in excelling in the sport that they love most, but in maintaining a life outside of the field as well.

“I always tell Alexa that in life, you should have a balance. You should always know when to do things at the right time,” Laura Maclang says.

She, like the other moms, are glad that their girls have found a sport that they don’t just love but can learn a lot from as well.

“It has helped develop her communication skills, which is very important during the formative years,” she says.

Traci’s mom, Ting Lim, noticed that her daughter has learned to manage time and become more disciplined and responsible. She was the first to bring the kids together, nurturing the girls’ love for the game by making sure they train regularly.

For the case of Traci, she was lucky to be selected, to be part of a national team training camp. From there, she learned how to manage her time. She became disciplined. She became more responsible.

Laura takes pride in the fact that in playing the sport, the girls have learned to look out for each other.

“The team has unity. They take care of each other not only during their time on the field but outside of it as well,” she says.

Just as the girls pull each other up during challenging games, their moms are there to listen to their frustrations and guide them in overcoming them.

“We always tell her that no one bad performance defines you as a player. The important thing is you come back stronger,” Anya’s mom, Tecel Fuentes, says.

“That’s the beautiful thing about soccer, she adds. “Bilog ang bola.”

Soccer has likewise created a strong bond between mothers and daughters.

“I go anywhere, everywhere she goes during her training or tournaments here and abroad,” Ting says.

Laura adds: “Every time I see her win, I cry. It’s an amazing bond between kids and parents.”

Bernadette sums up the bond that their daughters not only share with their teammates, but with their families as well.

“Football is a tie that binds our family. I will never trade the countless weekends spent under the sun watching them play. For as long as they are willing, I will never grow tired of cheering for them. I will always be proud to be called a soccer mom,” she says.

By playing football, the ICA team has shown that playing sports transcends genders, creates friendships, instills discipline, and, more importantly, fosters strong family bonds.

Allianz Conquer Challenge making a difference on two fronts

The Allianz PNB Life Insurance employees running alongside their Aeta counterparts to kick off their wave of the Allianz Conquer Challenge in Clark Global City
Allianz is making headway here in the Philippines into the world of Obstacle Course Racing, with its Allianz Conquer Challenge, of which its third leg took place earlier this month in Clark Global City.

This particular OCR event was a ten-kilometer race, with 25 different obstacles strewn all across its path. Among such obstacles runners have to deal with are spider web, monkey bars, tire wall, and a slip wall. A failure to overcome an obstacle would be forced to a carry around a 30-pound sand bag across a small running loop before completing the race.

It is the same path used by professional participants who are attempting to make the national team pool for a potential call-up for the SEA Games next year, which is the first time obstacle course racing will be part of the biennial competition.

Getting themselves closer for a national call-up are Jeffrey Regino, who topped the male open elite race at just over 50.5 minutes, and Sarah Lim Narvasa, who topped the distaff side with a time of just under 75 minutes.

Joining Regino and Narvasa to comprise the early national pool are Divino Manolito, Nathaniel Sanchez, Rocky Madorable, Gab Rosario, Crystal Umala, Glorien Merisco, Kat Santos, and Ali Zandra Chiongbian.

When asked about the Philippines' chances in OCR, Pilipinas Obstacle Course Race Federation head Al Agra says, "Expectations are high for us to produce because there will be six gold medals in obstacle race in the SEA Games next year That’s why we’re holding qualifying races early because we want to give our national pool members time to train and prepare.

Aside from the main race, the ACC held a special wave for twenty Aetas that were paired with an Allianz PNB Life employee, led by their Chief Operating Officer Alex Grenz. The indigenous participants are students from the Villa Maria Integrated School in Porac, a public school that Allianz PNB Life adopted as part of its CSR activities.

When asked about the experience of taking part in the event, Reyna Baclay was thankful for the opportunity, noting that she enjoyed the experience and took it as a lesson that she can take home. She shared that the obstacles are similar to what they go through in everyday life, noting that they "carry 50 kilos of camote or ube that we bring to the lowlands. If we sell, our families will have money to spend." The 18-year-old Grade 9 student has aspirations of entering the IT industry that she hopes to enter once she graduates. By entering the race, she says that she can dream, too, something her fellow Aetas aspire for as well by joining.

In establishing this collaborative activity with the Aetas, Allianz PNB Life Chief Marketing Officer Gae Martinez shares, "We recognize the strength of the Aetas. So, aside from educating them with the basics of personal finance through our financial literacy program, we would like to impart to them the value of committing to achieve goals that they have to set. We want to give them a fair chance of having employment opportunities in the future."

Martinez adds, "OCR is an up and coming sport. It is gaining popularity in the Philippines. Allianz as a company uses sports to connect with communities. The Aetas from Villa Maria is one of the communities that Allianz here in the Philippines has chosen to support.  This is, in line with our advocacy to promote social inclusion, one of the pillars of our company’s Corporate Citizenship Strategy."

Allianz PNB Life Marketing Director Rei Abrazaldo says, "We at Allianz have always been curious and wanting to be a significant contributor in bridging the protection gap and what better way to exemplify that is by giving the minority group like the Aetas a chance to compete and be a part."

Dovetailing this with their ongoing "Sanlahi" campaign, having indigenous communities engage in social inclusion activities like this allows them to have "the courage to move forward, the courage to overcome life’s obstacles, for them to have better life," which Martinez highlighted and then added, "As our tag line goes - we dare you to, because we’re with you."

Allianz in the Philippines is represented by Allianz PNB Life, and when asked about how this new partnership can be framed in the local setting, Chief Marketing Officer Gae Martinez believes that it "emphasizes the values of integrity, teamwork, and inclusivity, which are relevant values for Filipinos." She also views that the foray into engaging digital natives is something they are familiar with in the Philippines, noting the influence digital conversations have on consumer behavior.

Brand and Communications Director Rei Abrazaldo adds, "Allianz and the Olympics coming together will amplify the message of Allianz to dare individuals to pursue the best versions of themselves and as families and communities to work in collaboration to advance a better working environment."

Allianz National Youth Futsal Invitational set for kickoff

With the Allianz National Youth Futsal Invitational (ANYFI), the road for a child to make it to Munich and train with Bavarian football powerhouse Bayern Munich is set for this year.

Staged by Allianz PNB Life Insurance, Inc., in partnership with the Henry V. Moran Founation and in coordination with the Philippine Football Federation, the ANYFI will be the venue for which young Pinoys can showcase their skills and impress their way into slots allocated for Filipinos in the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC). Outstanding participants in the AJFC get the chance to train in Munich with Bayern later this year.

The ANYFI kicks off with local eliminations starting April 27 until May 13, with regional tourneys slated between May 19-27. The national finals will take place in Sta. Cruz, Laguna on June 2-3. Each tourney is broken down to Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 division for both boys and girls.

Eight outstanding children will be picked to represent the country at the AJFC, which will take place in Thailand in July. From there, three will be chosen to go to Munich this September for the ultimate experience of training with their idols.

Allianz chief operating officer Alex Grenz shares, "We’re very pleased to be part of this worthwhile national initiative. Through the ANYFI, we’re giving kids the chance to get the best training possible with Bayern Munich and help them pursue their dreams of becoming professionals and national team mainstays someday."

This is the second edition of the ANYFI. Last year produced five standouts that joined the AJFC in Bali, Indonesia. Out of those sessions with Bayern legends Giovane Elber and Klaus Augenthaler, two (JM Mitra and Aeron Tenollar) were selected for the AJFC World Camp in Munich.
