Arellano is set to launch its three-peat bid in track and field with the start of the NCAA Season 93 Track and Field tournament tomorrow at the PhilSports oval in Pasig.
The Chiefs will try to fend off last season's runner-up Mapua and JRU in this go-around, with College of Saint Benilde and Perpetual Help also serving as potential contenders. In the HS division, Emilio Aguinaldo College, through EAC-ICA, will be shooting for a fifth straight title.
According to Arellano head coach Paulino Coloma, he is looking at long-distance running as well as throwing to once again serve as the foundation in their quest for the title.
Eight gold medals are at stake in Day One, including pole vault and long jump in seniors and discus throw and long jump in HS play during the morning and the sprint events in the afternoon. Day 2 in athletics will take place the next day with twelve gold medals, while the final day will take place this Monday, with four medals.
Gracing the opening rites is PATAFA head Philip Juico.
