Originally taking place last July 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena, former and current Lady Eagles went up against an all-alumnae Lady Archers, reliving a great rivalry in front of over thirteen thousand fans. La Salle took the first two sets, before Ateneo embarked on winning the last three sets. Named as the MVPs for both teams are Jia Morado and Aby Marano.
The team captains from both teams, Cha Cruz and Alyssa Valdez, agreed that the match felt invigorating, especially since this was for a good cause. According to Cruz, "It's a great feeling to play with friends especially after recalling the hard-fought battles we had in the past. At the end of the day, we are all friends and getting reunited for a good cause is what it is all about. Plus, there is nothing like seeing green and blue on the same court." As for Valdez, she says, "Rivalry brings out the best and that extra excitement in us. We are now giving a whole new meaning to the word rival in the sense that it isn't something negative, but something that excites people and fuels us to play our best not just for ourselves but for our team and what we represent as a whole."
Other than the Ateneo-La Salle matchup, the event included a Skills Challenge hosted by Andrei Felix and Carmela Tunay, as well as friendly between the LVPI men's national team against Macau, which the hosts took in straight sets.
Proceeds from "Battle of the Rivals" will benefit scholars from both universities, as well as the Rebisco Foundation, Inc.
