The continued rise of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League continues to be felt in basketball circles locally, as the NCAA is set to tap the league's referees to handle its 94th Season next month.
According to NCAA Management Committee chairman Frank Gusi of host school Perpetual Help, the MPBL's pool of officials will replace the Basketball Referees Association for Schools, Colleges, and Universities, which took care of officiating last season.
League Commissioner Arturo "Bai" Cristobal confirmed this development, but noted that the league through its board will only finalize this decision this coming week.
If things hold, the league will open with these referees on July 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena, with defending champions San Beda facing Perpetual at 2pm, followed by San Sebastian against Lyceum at 4pm.
Before the games, the NCAA will have its Opening Ceremonies at 12nn.
Gusi also affirmed the continuation of the #NCAAOnTour that was launched last season, with matches to take place at five venues, Perpetual Help, Letran-Calamba, Jose Rizal University, Arellano University, and either La Salle-Greenhills or San Sebastian-Cavite. All of these matches will take place during the first round.
