The Malditas have impressed in Group A, tacking on two 4-0 wins over the United Arab Emirates and Iraq, then just put up an 8-0 result against hosts Tajikistan.
With nine points in three matches, they share the lead in the group alongside Jordan, who have already booked a berth in the finals proper as its hosts next year.
They face a Bahrain side that still has a slim chance of getting through to the next round. Armed with four points in three matches, they will need to win out AND for Jordan to prevent a Philippine victory to snatch that finals berth.
It is those stakes that head coach Letecia Bautista was harping on after the game.
We could’ve controlled the game better and we were a bit erratic early on. We need to work on our passing and distribution. With the momentum we’re having right now we can go into the match on Monday with a positive attitude – but we don’t want to underestimate Bahrain. But before then we will enjoy Dushanbe, as we have two rest days tomorrow and Sunday. We will do some light exercises, have a tour of the city and on Sunday we will go back to the routine. For those looking for a streaming link, here you go.
