Arellano continues NCAA athletics dominance

Day 2 of the NCAA Season 93 track and field competition sees Arellano continue to build on a successful three-peat bid.

John Carlos Corpuz added another gold with a NCAA record throw in discus, as his 41.56m attempt eclipsed the old mark by a meter.

Meanwhile, Mapua took control of the running events with gold medals from Rowell Galvero in the 5000m (15:29.55), Raymund Alferos in the 400m (48.87s) , and Fernan Lopez in the 100m (11.2s).

Three more records fell earlier today, all of which came in the HS division.

Edgar Mahinay set the 2000m steeplechase gold medal with a time of six minutes and 11.47 seconds, as he dominated against the opposition. His fellow Red Cub Mariano Masano set the 800m record with his time of 1:55.28.

The other record saw Arellano's John Paul Parulan set a new mark with his 3.85m attempt in HS pole vault.

Meanwhile, reigning HS MVP Veruel Verdadero posted the fastest time of the day in the century dash, as the multiple gold medalist in the Palarong Pambansa and Batang Pinoy ran a 10.97.
