Arellano University rode on a perfect performance from Renzo Abiera to pull off an 82-66 victory over San Sebastian to kick off this week's action at the NCAA Season 101 men's basketball tournament in San Juan on Tuesday.
Abiera made all eight of his shots to finish with a game-high nineteen points, while also adding a couple of rebounds, an assist, and a block. Each chipping fifteen markers are Maverick Vinoya and Aaron Cabotaje to secure the win after giving a solid test to defending champions Mapua over the weekend.
Head coach Chico Manabat praised his wards afterwards, saying "Pinakamaganda dito e nagttrabaho lahat ‘yong mga bata at ‘yong (mga) coaches." He adds, "Sometimes, hindi’ yong madaming panalo, ‘yong tamang panahon para manalo talaga ‘yong tinatrabaho nila."
Ian Cuajao and Christian Ricio led the Golden Stags with twelve points each, as they drop to 0-2.
The Legarda-based school had double the reason to celebrate after the Braves blew out the Staglets in juniors action earlier in the morning, 92-61.The scores:
