Bacoor took advantage of a sizzling Jerome Garcia to secure a win in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Invitational powered by TM, dispatching Caloocan, 72-50.
Garcia scored nineteen of his 26 points in the first half, after going scoreless in just four minutes during their opener against Bacolod. The EAC alum also nailed six triples, falling just one point short of matching the tournament-high 27 points set by Orlan Wamar last Thursday.
His explosion, coupled with their defense limited the Excellence to just five points in the second period allowed the Strikers to establish a 40-21 advantage. The lead would eventually reach as high as 35 points during the fourth quarter at 65-30, thanks to a Salvador Galit jumper.
Head coach Aldrin Morante shared afterwards, "Siguro adjustments namin ano, first game talagang ni wala kaming tune up game. Yung game namin talagang yun lang after three weeks of practicing kaya medyo nangangapa. Ngayon yung practice namin kahapon ano e, bale move on na. Natuto na lang kami sa pagkatalo namin."
Richard Albo registered a double-double for Bacoor with thirteen points and twelve rebounds, while Paolo Castro added nine points and three assists.
Pao Javillonar led Caloocan with seventeen points and fourteen rebounds, with Mon Mabayo almost securing a double-double of his own with thirteen points and nine boards. Cedric Labing-isa provided six points, four rebounds, and six assists.
The Strikers will try to net their second win in Pool A against Pasig at 730pm on Wednesday, with Caloocan and Negros will duke it out at noon on Tuesday to see who gets their first win of the tournament.
