Bacolod held on in the endgame to preserve a 68-67 victory over Negros to cap off the second day of action at the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Invitational powered by TM inside the Mall of Asia Arena.
Ichie Altamirano converted two free throws to allow Bacolod to take a 68-67 lead with twelve seconds remaining. He would finish with thirteen points and four rebounds.
The Muscovados, who had been down by as much as twelve in the final period, managed to take the lead after four straight points from Jonathan Gantalao at 67-66. They had a chance to snatch away the win, but Ralph Dinolan lost the ball to Kraniel Villoria as time expired.
Bacolod head coach Alex Angeles praised their opposition, "Hats off ako doon sa team ng Negros kasi despite na controlled nga natin yung laro nandun pa rin sila bumabalik balik." He also added, "Pero sa part namin, oo hindi masaya pero sa positive side a win is a win. Tapos ito magpapatibay lalo samin yung mga ganitong klaseng sitwasyon."
JK Casino led the Ballers with fifteen points, with John Pastias and Arben Dionson adding a combined seventeen markers.
Jaycee Adjei led Negros with thirteen points and six rebounds, with Jafet Claridad and Dinonal each notching ten markers.
Bacolod seeks to make it three straight victories in the tournament with a win against Iloilo on Wednesday at 230pm, while Negros looks to prevent a three-game skid against Caloocan on Tuesday at noon.
