Okumu remains UP WVT head coach - UP CHK

The University of the Philippines on Monday, officially clarified matters pertaining to Godfrey Okumu this afternoon.

It all started with this series of tweets from the Philippine Daily Inquirer's Marc Reyes on Monday morning.

It then prompted this reply from someone connected with the Nowhere to Go but UP Foundation.

Hoping to provide proper closure on this matter, the university on Monday afternoon, through the College of Human Kinetics, released a statement, signed by its dean Kiko Diaz and endorsed by the university president Michael Tan, that Okumu remains the head coach of the Lady Maroons.

The statement in full reads:
Coach Godfrey Owese Okumu is Still Coach of the University of the Philippines Volleyball Team.

The College of Human Kinetics wishes to clarify that Coach Godfrey Okumu is still the head coach of the UP Lady Maroons Women's Volleyball Team. Mr. Okumu has a live contract with the UP College of Human Kinetics and the University of the Philippines, and as such will continue to coach, train, and recruit players for the UPWVT. Coach Godfrey's relationship with other entities involved with the volleyball sport does not include or affect his current position in the UP team.

At the same time, the University also recognizes under its existing Memorandum of Agreement that United Auctioneers continues to be the major sponsor of the UP Women's Volleyball Team and is thankful for their continued support.

One can see the full document below.

Okumu was introduced as UP's head coach last November 2017 and has led UP to consecutive 6-8 seasons.
