Viewing the NBA Playoffs from an international perspective

With the NBA Playoffs already underway, here are some interesting tidbits about how international the league is.

There are 54 international players from 28 countries that are on active playoff rosters, broken down into the following regions:
30 European players, including four Spaniards and six Frenchmen
6 African players
7 Latin / Caribbean players, including five Brazilians
6 Asia-Pacific players, including five Australians
5 Canadian players
Eleven of these players (Diaw, Joseph, Ezeli, Anthony, Irving, Ginobili, Dellavedova, Mills, P. Gasol, Parker, Thompson) have won championships.

The Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors each have seven international players, which is the most among the playoff teams.

All first round playoff matchups will feature at least three international players, with the Bucks-Raptors matchup having the most at eleven players.

After becoming the Buck to make the All-Star Game since Michael Redd, Giannis Antetokounmpo became the first player in NBA History to be in the top-20 in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

Dennis Schroeder stepped in into the shoes left off by Jeff Teague, contributing 17.9 points and 6.3 assists for the Atlanta Hawks heading into their matchup against the Washington Wizards, who will rely on Marcin Gortat down low against Dwight Howard. The Polish Hammer is one of twelve NBA players averaging a double-double in points and rebounds.

The Gasol brothers are facing off against each other for the first time in the playoffs, with Pau's San Antonio Spurs against Marc's Memphis Grizzlies. This matchup also features the two oldest active NBA players in 40-year-old Vince Carter and 39-year-old Manu Ginobili. Both guys have been reliable role players for their respective teams this season. Pau is currently second among active players in double-doubles behind Howard.

Tony Parker is steadily rising in the playoff wins chart, currently tied with LeBron James at seventh overall with 131 victories in the postseason coming in. Both guys are four wins behind Kobe Bryant for sixth place and five wins behind Scottie Pippen for fifth place. Parker is in his 16th season in the postseason, the most among active players. He also has played the most among active players with 213 games.

Clint Capela has ably helped fill the hole Dwight Howard's departure caused for the Houston Rockets. Tag-teaming with Nene, the Swiss big man contributed career high in points (12.4) and rebounds (8.1), and finished third in the league in field goal percentage at 63.7%.

The Oklahoma City Thunder features an interesting set of international big men, with Steven Adams and Enes Kanter forming a tag team down low, serving as a throwback to the big men of yore. Adams is averaging 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Kanter is building a case for Sixth Man of the Year with his effort off the bench. Rookie forward Domantas Sabonis seeks to carve his niche as a second-generation basketball star.

The matchup between the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers will highlight the comparison between Rudy Gobert and Deandre Jordan, with both players figuring in the race for Defensive Player of the Year and in the All-NBA team as its Center. In addition, Joe Ingles was among the final cuts of the Clippers before the Jazz claimed him on waivers. The Australian is now an integral reserve for Quin Snyder.
