UAAP Season 78 softball: Tigresses clinch No. 2 seed

The University of Santo Tomas made sure that the surprising victory against defending softball champions Adamson was not a fluke, as they shut out National University, 6-0, in the playoff to determine the second seed in the UAAP postseason.

Back-to-back 3-run innings did the trick for the Tiger Softbelles. After a Kristine Lacupa leadoff single and steal of second base, Hannah dela Torre sent Kristine home with a RBI double. Dela Torre would then score off of a CJ Roa sacrifice bunt, while a RBI single from Louise Garde completed the scoring in the 3rd inning.

In the fourth, a leadoff triple for Jesse Belano followed by a Lea Guevarra RBI triple gives UST their fourth run. Lacupa then walked, followed by a two-RBI double for dela Torre to make it a six-run lead.

Ann Antolihao would help keep it a shutout with six strikeouts.

Game 2 of the "virtual best-of-three" series will take place on Monday, 11am at Rizal Memorial. Just before that game, the other semifinal matchup pits Adamson and UP.  The Falcons own the twice-to-beat advatage against the Maroons. First pitch for this will be at 9am.
