De La Salle University sent University of Santo Tomas crashing with a near shutout, 3.5-0.5, in the UAAP Season 88 Women's Chess Tournament, Wednesday at the Adamson Gym.

For La Salle coach Jan Jodilyn Fronda, the win was a welcome boost of momentum as they brace for consecutive battles against championship-caliber opponents this weekend.

"Magandang build-up ng confidence sa mga bata na nakakuha sila ng momentum ngayong round against UST. Sana yung momentum na yun magtuloy-tuloy hanggang sa mga susunod na round," said Fronda, as they are set to face National University and Far Eastern University on Sunday.

Woman National Master Francois Magpily (1/2) set the tone for the Lady Woodpushers with a dominant performance on the top board, forcing Precious Yecla (2/3) to resign by the 40th move after an unstoppable mating attack.

On Board 2, rookie Juzeia Agne (1/1) displayed her endgame prowess against Jamaica Lagio (1.5/3), turning an almost equal position into a win through precise queen maneuvers that created a passed pawn, sealing the victory on the 55th move.

Rinoa Sadey (2/2) added another point for La Salle on Board 3 after 45 moves of a Closed Sicilian Defense while playing the white pieces against Josemier Panol (2/3).

Rookie Heart Padilla (1.5/2) then settled for a draw with UST's Rohanisah Buto (0.5/1) after a 78-move marathon on Board 4, completing La Salle's domination.

Meanwhile, National University followed up its earlier upset of defending champions Far Eastern University with a clinical 3-1 victory over University of the Philippines.

Women's FIDE Master Allaney Doroy (2/2), Jersey Marticio (2/2), and Kyla Dalagan (1/1) all secured victories on Boards 1, 2, and 4 against Raiza Locmayoan (1/3), Janice Monsales (1/3), and Kathrine Tundag (0/1), respectively.

Maryss Caldoza (2/3) scored UP's lone win against Jelaince Adriano (0.5/2) on Board 3.

Ateneo de Manila University also bounced back from back-to-back losses with an impressive 3.5-0.5 triumph over Adamson University.

Ma. Elayza Villa (1.5/3), Alphecca Gonzales (1/3), and Francine Magpily (1/1) defeated Adamson's Phoebie Arellano (0.5/3), Angela San Luis (1/3), and Lira Placer (0/1), respectively.

Jiessel Marino (1.5/3) rounded out the win for Ateneo with a draw against Ma. Christina Samarita (0.5/2) on the top board.

University of Santo Tomas emerged as the opening day leaders after a near-sweep of its matches in the boys’ and girls’ divisions to kick off the UAAP Season 88 High School Chess Championship at the Adamson Gym on Sunday.

The Junior Lady Woodpushers opened the season in perfect form, scoring a 4-0 shutout over De La Salle Zobel, while the Junior Male Woodpushers posted a 3-1 walloping of Ateneo High School.

UST began its campaign in the boys’ division with Jude Dableo (1/1) and Sumer Oncita (1/1) earning decisive wins over Jose Pio Caro (0/1) and Aidan Mejia (0/1), as Arena International Master Gabriel Paradero won by default on the top board.

In the girls’ division, Trina Temple (1/1), Angel Po (1/1), Kara Meneses (1/1), and Mecel Gadut (1/1) all scored victories against Francesca Icay (0/1), Jeslyn Santos (0/1), Alexa Enas (0/1), and Xephi Holgado (0/1), respectively, underscoring UST’s dominance.

However, National University Nazareth School stole the spotlight with a thrilling 2.5-1.5 upset of defending champion Far Eastern University, highlighted by Sara Dalagan’s (1/1) 53-move conquest of national team mainstay and Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino (0/1) on the top board.

Dalagan’s tactical brilliance was on full display as she punished Canino’s 14th-move blunder with a knight sacrifice, gaining a pawn and creating an unstoppable passed pawn en route to a convincing victory.

"Record po samin yung manalo ngayon kasi team effort eh. Ang tagal naming nagprepare para dito. Yung mga bata ang laking oras yung sinakripisyo eh," said NUNS coach and FIDE Master Roel Abelgas of his team’s monumental victory over FEU, who completed an undefeated championship run last season.

"FEU kasi sila yung strongest team ngayon diyan sa high school eh. Ngayon, natalo namin sila. Tingin ko may chance na kami (na magchampion) pero depende pa rin kung ano yung mangyayari sa mga next matches," he added.

Arena FIDE Master Ryien Bahita (1/1) also notched a win over Franiel Magpily (0/1), while Kayla Aurelio (0.5/1) split the point with FEU’s Ericka Oridizo (0.5/1) to close out NU’s triumphant debut.

Adamson University also registered a win with a 3-1 victory over the debuting Ateneo High School girls’ team. The Sampaloc-based squad repeated the feat in the boys’ division, with Jonver Acosta (1/1), Jian Bautista (1/1), and Ashton Karl Fatkin (1/1) securing victories over De La Salle Zobel’s Santino Edralin (0/1), Gian Caguiat (0/1), and Kevin Dominguez (0/1), respectively.

National Master Tyrhone Tabernilla (1/1) was the lone bright spot for La Salle, bagging a win against Bryce Bayani (0/1).

University of Santo Tomas wasted no time making its presence felt, racking up wins to seize the top spot in both the men’s and women’s divisions at the conclusion of the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Chess Tournament’s opening day on Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

The Lady Woodpushers opened the floodgates with a 3-1 stunner over the University of the Philippines before following it up with a statement 3.5-0.5 victory against Ateneo de Manila University.

Standing at four match points after two rounds, UST is firmly ahead of the pack, much to the delight of coach Ronald Dableo.

"Malaking bagay yung panalo dahil kumbaga, hindi kami mapressure na naghahabulan kami sa standings. Malaking factor yan na panalo. Isustain na lang," he said.

Precious Yecla (Board 1) and Josemier Panol (Board 2) set the tone for UST by earning two wins apiece, while Jamaica Lagio contributed 1.5 points with a win and a draw.

In the men’s division, FIDE Master Christian Mark Daluz (1/1) showcased his brilliance by outmaneuvering Angele Biete (0/1) after 89 moves in a rook endgame, leading UST to a 3-1 thrashing of La Salle.

"Maingat eh. Very slim yung chance niya manalo dun sa laro pero ginrind lang niya nang ginrind yung posisyon eh," said Dableo of Daluz’s debut performance.

UP also had a strong opening day, dominating Adamson University 3-1 to keep pace with UST atop the standings. Io Calica (Board 2) and Roderenz Adra (Board 4), combined with rookie Daniel Tagufa (Board 3), racked up three wins against Joshua Roque, Dustin Herrero, and Robert Palisoc, respectively.

Far Eastern University and Ateneo closed out the men’s division opening day with a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, National University made a dramatic debut, pulling off a 2.5-1.5 upset win over defending champion FEU in the women’s division.

Woman FIDE Master Allaney Doroy (1/1) and Jersey Marticio (1/1) toppled Woman FIDE Master Mhage Sebastian (1/2) and Samantha Umayan (1/2) on Boards 1 and 2, respectively. Jelaine Adriano (0.5/1) then held Francesca Largo (1.5/2) to a draw to secure NU’s victory.

Despite the loss, FEU remained in second place thanks to a 3.5-0.5 walloping of Adamson in an earlier round.

La Salle also broke into the win column earlier in the day, defeating Ateneo 2.5-1.5. Rinoa Sadey (1/1) and Heart Padilla (1/1) secured victories over Ma. Elayza Villa (0.5/2) and Alphecca Gonzales (0/2) on Boards 2 and 3, respectively.

UP, which lost earlier to UST, salvaged a 2-2 draw with Adamson in the other women’s match to earn its first match point of the tournament.

UAAP set to commence chess portion of Season 88

Parading with intact rosters, the University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University are once again poised to assert their dominance as the UAAP Season 88 Chess Tournaments open today (Sunday) at the Adamson University Gym.

The five-peat-seeking Male Woodpushers brace for a challenging title defense despite coming off a near-perfect campaign last season, where the España-based squad tallied eight wins and one draw against just a single loss.

"So far we are well prepared naman to defend our title. But everything on our way to the championship is always a difficult task," said UST head coach GM-elect Ronald Dableo, who identified FEU as their toughest challenger this season.

That concern is warranted, with the Morayta-based Tamaraws bannered by FIDE Master Mark Bacojo, last season’s Rookie of the Year, who is expected to anchor their bid to reclaim the crown.

In the women’s division, FEU was untouchable last season, completing a flawless campaign behind the brilliance of reigning MVP and Woman National Master Mhage Sebastian.

Meanwhile, on the girls’ side, national team standout and Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino returns from strong international stints to lead FEU-Diliman, hoping to replicate her spotless run from last year.

Alongside the Baby Tamaraws, they are targeting a fourth straight sweep of the high school titles to further cement their legacy in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

"We always give our best. Our aim for this year is to get the four championship crowns in four divisions, Men, Women, and HS Girls, and HS Boys," declared FEU coach and Woman Grandmaster Janelle Frayna, outlining the Tamaraws’ ultimate goal this season.

Armed with depth, experience, and a proven track record of dominance across all divisions, FEU enters Season 88 not just as defending champions but as the gold standard that every other team must measure itself against.

FEU, Ateneo, UST, NU split inaugural UAAP blitz chess titles

FAR Eastern University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, and National University-Nazareth School each took home a championship in the inaugural UAAP Season 87 Blitz Chess Championships held Saturday at the Adamson Gym.

The Tamaraws dominated the men’s division with a commanding 4-0 victory over top-seeded UST in the finals.

Tournament MVP and FIDE Master Mark Bacojo led the charge for FEU, securing four wins in four matches on the top board against Chester Reyes.

De La Salle University clinched third place in the men’s division after defeating the University of the Philippines, 3-1, in the battle for the bronze.

In the women’s division, Ateneo secured its first-ever chess championship via tiebreaker after forcing a 2-2 draw against FEU in the finals.

Ateneo head coach Yves Ranola breathed a sigh of relief following a nerve-wracking finals series that came down to the wire.

"Up to the last game yung laban. Yung naging decider yung sa Board 2. Kailangan namin at least makatabla. Eh nakuha sa dasal and may halong swerte na rin. Alam mo sa blitz kelangan hindi lang magaling ka eh. Dapat may kasamang swerte ka rin," said Ranola, after women’s division MVP Ma. Elayza Villa forced a crucial draw with FEU’s Mhage Sebastian on Board 2, salvaging the title despite Ateneo trailing after the first half of the finals.

"Pinanggalingan ko kasi FEU eh. Lagi kaming champion dati kaya ang mindset ko talaga is fight for championship lagi. Anything less, syempre malungkot tayo. Ngayon, lumaban sila nang husto sa blitz saka rapid. First time to sa Ateneo eh kasi ngayon lang kami nakalapit sa championship. Mixed emotions. Syempre masaya rin. Yung sa blitz nakabawi kami. Sa rapid kasi natalo kami sa finals, FEU rin yung kalaban," Ranola added, referring to their earlier loss to FEU in the rapid finals despite entering as the top seed.

De La Salle also took third place in the women’s division after edging UST, 2.5-1.5, in the bronze medal match.

Meanwhile, UST added another crown by winning the boys’ division, thanks to FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri’s perfect 16-match win streak on Board 1 during the eliminations, earning him MVP honors.

Despite suffering consecutive 3-1 losses in Rounds 1 and 2 of the finals, UST bounced back with a 4-0 sweep in Round 3 and secured a 2-2 draw in the last round to win the championship via tiebreaker, anchored by Nouri’s strong performance on Board 1.

In the girls’ division, National University-Nazareth School stunned FEU by forcing a 2-2 draw in the finals and clinching the title based on total points scored.

Sara Dalagan spearheaded the victory for NUNS, defeating national team standout and Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino in back-to-back matches during the first two rounds, setting the tone for the Sampaloc-based squad.

NUNS coach Jose Aquino Jr. praised Dalagan for flawlessly executing their strategy, which he said was key to their unexpected championship run.

"The truth is yung game plan namin is yung dalawang players nila (FEU) sa gitna. Sabi ko sa players ko yung Board 2 and 3, sina Canino and Claros, yun ang ineutralize natin. Kung one of the them matablahan niyo lang, magchachampion tayo. Ayun nagawa naman. Si Dalagan naka 2-2 eh kay Canino. Kasi yung sa amin, very confident ako sa Board 1 ko na mananalo talaga," shared Aquino.

"Actually unexpected ito dahil alam naman natin yung FEU talagang mighty team yan and going into the finals, we were not expecting anything. Kumbaga, bonus na lang samin ang magchampion. Super happy na kami na second place na kami. Pero yun nga binigay pa rin samin ni Lord kaya thank you kay Lord talaga binigay niya samin to," he continued.

NUNS’ Jersey Marticio was named MVP of the girls’ division.

Adamson University and UST finished third in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, respectively.

In the rapid event, FEU’s Franklin Andes and Joyce Rianna Rueda were named MVPs of the boys’ and women’s divisions, respectively. UST’s Daren dela Cruz (girls) and Chester Reyes (men) also claimed MVP honors in their respective divisions.

De La Salle University swept its final two matches to secure the top spot in the elimination round of the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Blitz Chess Championships, Wednesday at the Adamson Gym.

The Lady Woodpushers amassed 10 match points, recording five wins against one loss, finishing one point ahead of second-seeded Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, who tallied nine match points.

In Round 6, La Salle blanked Adamson University with a dominant 4-0 victory before closing out the elimination stage with a narrow 2.5-1.5 triumph over archrival Ateneo de Manila University.

Francois Magpily led La Salle’s charge, finishing with 17.5 points out of a possible 24 to power the squad to the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, FEU secured its place in the playoffs with an impressive performance, conceding just 0.5 points in the final two rounds.

Francheska Largo delivered a flawless showing in Rounds 6 and 7, spearheading FEU’s 4-0 demolition of University of Santo Tomas and a 3.5-0.5 rout of Adamson. She finished with 16.5 points, leading FEU in total individual points scored during the single-round robin eliminations.

UST secured third place with eight match points, booking a semifinal showdown with FEU. Despite losing their last two matches, the Female Woodpushers clinched a spot in the medal rounds thanks to a four-game winning streak on opening day.

With the elimination stage concluded, top-seeded La Salle is set to renew its storied rivalry with Ateneo in the semifinals on Saturday, April 5, as both teams battle for a spot in the gold-medal match.

FEU, UST make early headway in inaugural edition of UAAP Blitz Chess

FAR Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas made strong opening statements in the high school and collegiate divisions, respectively, as the UAAP Season 87 Blitz Chess Championships kicked off, Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

Their performances mirrored their dominance in the rapid event that saw FEU win the women's and boys' divisions while UST took the men's and girls' side, establishing them as early frontrunners in the tournament.

The UST Male Woodpushers, fresh from their rapid chess title win, swept all their matches in the single-round robin elimination round, securing the top spot with 10 match points from five consecutive victories.

Jan Clifford Labog spearheaded UST’s campaign with a stellar performance, scoring at least three out of four points in each round and remaining unbeaten in five head-to-head matchups. He amassed an impressive 16.5 points out of a possible 20.

With their dominant run, UST enters the playoffs as the top seed and will face University of the Philippines in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, second-seeded FEU will take on third-placed De La Salle University in the men's division.

In the women’s division, UST also went unbeaten through five rounds, securing four consecutive wins to top the standings with eight match points.

Precious Yecla led the charge for the UST Female Woodpushers, overcoming three opponents and scoring at least three points per round to finish with 12.5 points out of 16.

Meanwhile, FEU-Diliman continued its dominant streak in the girls’ division, remaining undefeated through five rounds to finish with a perfect eight match points.

Woman FIDE Master April Joy Claros played a key role in FEU-D’s success, delivering a steady performance without dropping a single match. She tallied 10 points out of a possible 12, securing her team’s place in the finals against National University-Nazareth School.

In the boys' division, the Baby Tamaraws edged out the Junior Male Woodpushers for the top spot.

Both teams finished with seven match points, courtesy of three wins and a draw, after their head-to-head matchup ended in a tie.

FEU-D, led by Franklin Andes, will now battle UST, spearheaded by FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri, for the boys' division championship.

Rounds 6 and 7 of the women's division are set for Wednesday, April 3, while the semifinals and finals across all divisions will take place on April 6.

FAR Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas each secured two championships as the inaugural UAAP Season 87 Rapid Chess Championships came to a close Saturday at the Adamson Gym.

The Baby Tamaraws reaffirmed their dominance in the boys' division with another undefeated run to the crown, capped by a commanding 3-1 victory over the Junior Male Woodpushers in the finals. Meanwhile, the Lady Tamaraws overcame two early setbacks in the tournament to stage an impressive comeback and claim the women's title.

In the boys' division finals, Jerish John Velarde set the tone for FEU by defeating FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri on the top board. Franklin Andes followed suit with a win over Jian Carlo Rivera on Board 3. Oscar Cantela and Lemmuel Adena sealed the triumph with crucial draws against John Cyrus Borce and Sumer Oncita on Board 2 and Board 4, respectively.

"Yung women's team namin, I think they're the most unexpected na magpopodium finish kasi nung eliminations, first day pa lang nakadalawang talo na sila. Of course, we were hoping for the best na magchampion pero realistically, nung kakasimula pa lang ng laban, medyo tumagilid. But we talked to the players and nagtraining naman din kami," said FEU assistant coach Janelle Frayna, reflecting on their championship run in the women's division. The Lady Tamaraws upended league-leader Ateneo de Manila University with a dominant 3.5-0.5 win in the finals.

("Our women's team, I think, was the most unexpected to reach the podium because, in the eliminations, they already had two losses on the first day. Of course, we were hoping for the best and aiming to become champions, but realistically, at the start of the tournament, things weren’t looking good. However, we talked to the players, and we also trained.")

"Minsan yung mga bata, they doubt their capabilities. I think that's what happened in the first day. Now, we just treated it one game at a time. Yung first na laban sa La Salle sa semis was very close. Maybe may luck factor din. Then dito sa finals, unexpectedly na 4-0 namin ang Ateneo. That's a very decisive advantage I guess kasi next match isang draw lang, champion na," added Frayna, a Woman Grandmaster and UAAP Season 77 Athlete of the Year.

("Sometimes, young players doubt their capabilities. I think that’s what happened on the first day. So, we just took it one game at a time. Our first match against La Salle in the semifinals was very close. Maybe luck also played a factor. Then in the finals, we unexpectedly swept Ateneo 4-0. That was a very decisive advantage, I guess, because in the next match, we only needed a draw to secure the championship.")

Ateneo topped the elimination stage with an undefeated record but failed to replicate its earlier 3.5-0.5 victory over FEU in Round 1.

FEU demonstrated its chess supremacy by reaching the finals in all four divisions. However, the Tamaraws suffered upset losses to UST in both the girls' and men's divisions, despite emerging as the top seeds in the single-round robin elimination stage.

In the girls' division, UST's Daren Dela Cruz and Iana Sotaridona secured crucial victories over Woman FIDE Master April Joy Claros and Kate Ordizo on Board 1 and Board 4, respectively. Kara Meneses then drew against Lyn Getubig, clinching the title for the Tigresses.

UST head coach Ronald Dableo acknowledged that luck played a role in their double championship triumph.

"May kasamang swerte yung nangyari. Naunahan kami nung elimination round eh. So everybody's game na yung labanan. Lumabas yung swerte. Tulad nito, losing na yung board 2 ko. Biro mo napakain nang buo yung tore nang kalaban. May luck din talaga. Pero nerve nga yun ng game," Dableo admitted.

("There was some luck involved in what happened. We fell behind in the elimination round, so the competition became anyone’s game. Then luck came into play. For example, my player on Board 2 was already losing, but unbelievably, the opponent ended up blundering their entire rook. There really was an element of luck, but that’s just part of the game.")

The UST Male Woodpushers had a slow start, opening the tournament with a loss and a draw before winning three straight matches to secure the third seed heading into the crossover semifinals. In the finals, they forced a tiebreaker after splitting the two matches against FEU, both ending in identical 2.5-1.5 results.

FIDE Master Christian Mark Daluz's fated showdown with FIDE Master Mark Bacojo became the decisive match, ultimately awarding the championship to UST.

UST had previously fallen to FEU in the girls' division elimination round with a tight 1.5-2.5 loss. However, they made key adjustments heading into the playoffs, which proved instrumental in their title-winning campaign.

Dableo credited UST assistant coach and Grandmaster Darwin Laylo for their strategic preparations, particularly in the girls' division.

His preparations greatly benefited our girls' division. What he taught them was applied in the games, making the matches easier. Following Ateneo at third place in the women's division was De La Salle University, which defeated UST in the battle for bronze.

In the men's division, University of the Philippines edged out La Salle to claim third place.

Meanwhile, Ateneo and National University Nazareth School secured third-place finishes in the boys' and girls' divisions, respectively.

The awarding of podium winners, along with the announcement of individual awards, will take place alongside the UAAP Blitz Chess Championships awarding ceremony on April 5.

De La Salle University snatched the top seed from Ateneo de Manila University despite falling to its archrival, 1.5-2.5, in the final round of the UAAP Season 87 Rapid Chess Championship elimination stage, Wednesday at the Adamson Gym.

The Lady Woodpushers, who were in second place after Round 5, created enough separation in the standings with a dominant 4-0 shutout victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons in Round 6.

That result meant La Salle needed just one win or two draws in Round 7 to secure the No. 1 seed.

La Salle clinched it thanks to Rinoa Sadey's crucial victory over Ateneo’s Kristine Mae Flores on Board 3.

Meanwhile, defending standard event champion Far Eastern University rebounded from a rough start.

After suffering back-to-back losses early in the tournament, the Lady Tamaraws strung together four straight wins, culminating in a commanding 4-0 sweep of Adamson in Round 7.

Franchesca Largo was instrumental in FEU’s resurgence, delivering full points in every match during their winning streak.

In the final battle for the last semifinal spot, University of Santo Tomas edged National University, 2.5-1.5.

Entering the round in fifth place, UST needed a victory to advance.

Jamaica Lagrio (Board 2) and Christine Tabungar (Board 3) delivered crucial wins, while Princes Oncita secured the playoff berth with a draw on Board 4.

With the elimination round wrapped up, La Salle will take on UST, while Ateneo faces FEU in the semifinals on Saturday, March 29.

FAR EASTERN University continued its dominant run in the UAAP Season 87 Rapid Chess Championship, securing the top playoff seeds in three divisions, Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

The Baby Tamaraws were nearly unstoppable in the boys’ division, conceding only 0.5 points after five rounds to emerge as the clear frontrunners heading into the medal rounds.

Oscar Cantela (Board 2) and Franklin Andes (Board 3) led the charge, both scoring a perfect four points in four matches to set the tone for FEU’s dominant performance.

In the girls' division, Lyn Getubig (Board 3) mirrored their success, remaining undefeated in four matches to propel FEU-Diliman to the top spot heading into the semifinals with a flawless record.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, FIDE Master Mark Bacojo took charge, amassing 4.5 points in five rounds as the Tamaraws swept the elimination round with five consecutive wins.

De La Salle University finished second, buoyed by Angele Biete’s strong play on Board 2, where he accumulated four points in five rounds. La Salle will face defending standard event champion University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals.

Despite suffering three straight losses on Day 2, University of the Philippines secured a semifinal berth and will challenge top-seeded FEU for a spot in the gold-medal series in the men’s division.

In the women’s division, archrival Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University became the first teams to clinch semifinal spots after earning crucial victories on Day 2.

Ateneo, led by Lexie Hernandez’s unbeaten run on the top board, locked in at least the fourth seed in the medal rounds. The Blue Eagles now have a chance to claim the top spot when they face the Lady Green Woodpushers in Round 7.

FEU will battle UST for the championship in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions on Saturday, March 29. Meanwhile, Rounds 6 and 7 of the women’s division are scheduled for Wednesday, March 26.

REMINISCENT of its triple championship triumph in the standard event last November, Far Eastern University delivered a commanding performance on the opening day of the UAAP Season 87 Rapid Chess Championships, leading three divisions after two rounds, Saturday at the Adamson Gym.

National team prodigy and Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino teamed up with Lyn Getubig to spearhead the Lady baBY Tamaraws’ campaign in the girls’ division.

Both secured back-to-back victories on Board 2 and Board 3, respectively, as FEU-D edged out University of Santo Tomas (UST), 2.5-1.5, before overwhelming Adamson University, 3.5-0.5.

The boys’ division saw FEU maintain a flawless record, crushing UST, 3.5-0.5, in Round 1 and blanking De La Salle Zobel, 4-0, in Round 2.

The trio of Oscar Cantela (Board 2), Franklin Andes (Board 3), and Lemuel Adena (Board 4) showcased their dominance, asserting FEU-D’s championship pedigree right from the start.

In the men's division, the Tamaraws made their title ambitions clear, with reigning standard event Rookie of the Year and FIDE Master Mark Bacojo leading the charge on the top board.

FEU stunned defending standard event champion UST with a commanding 3.5-0.5 victory in Round 1 before sustaining its momentum with a solid 3-1 win over Adamson in Round 2.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, Lexie Hernandez-led Ateneo de Manila University stole the spotlight with a stunning 3.5-0.5 upset against standard event champion FEU.

The Blue Eagles then battled to a 2-2 draw with National University in Round 2 to take the solo lead.

NU, which earlier escaped with a tight 2.5-1.5 win over Adamson, finished the day in second place.

University of the Philippines, meanwhile, rose to the the second spot in the men's division, thanks to Arena Grandmaster Io Aristotle Calica’s perfect two-round performance.

Calica helped the Fighting Maroons edge Adamson, 2.5-1.5, before routing Ateneo, 3.5-0.5.

La Salle placed third after a 3-1 victory over Adamson in Round 1 and a hard-fought 2-2 draw against UST in Round 2.

Over in the boys’ division, Ateneo High School displayed remarkable form, securing back-to-back wins with a 3.5-0.5 triumph over La Salle and a 3-1 drubbing of Adamson. The Blue Eagles climbed to second place, trailing only the undefeated FEU-D.

In the girls’ division, National University Nazareth School took solo second place despite a 3-1 Round 2 loss to UST, which sits in third. NUNS edged ahead in the standings due to superior tiebreak points following a dominant 4-0 sweep of La Salle in Round 1.

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines is launching its inaugural blitz and rapid events in the UAAP Season 87 Chess Championships on Saturday at the Adamson Gym.

For the first time in league history, the UAAP Chess Championships will include blitz and rapid formats alongside the standard event, which concluded last November.

UAAP Chess Commissioner and Chief Arbiter Reden Cruz expressed excitement over this historic addition, believing it will further elevate the game of chess not only within the UAAP but across the broader chess community.

"We are very excited to have the rapid and blitz formats in the UAAP Season 87. Excited kami, hindi lang para sa amin kundi para sa lahat ng Philippine chess community kasi first time na magkakaroon ng rapid and blitz sa UAAP. Magandang senyales ito na sumisigla at gumaganda yung UAAP Chess Championship natin," Cruz said, emphasizing the significance of these events, which will serve as demonstration competitions for the season.

("We are very excited to have the rapid and blitz formats in UAAP Season 87. We are not just excited for ourselves but for the entire Philippine chess community because this is the first time that the UAAP will have rapid and blitz events. This is a good sign that our UAAP Chess Championship is growing and improving.")

Cruz also credited the National Chess Federation of the Philippines for initiating the inclusion of these new formats.

"Sa tingin ko, maaaring sumunod na rin yung ibang mga national collegiate chess championships," he said, noting the potential impact of Season 87's blitz and rapid events on other collegiate leagues.

("I think other national collegiate chess championships might follow suit.")

The rapid event will follow a 15-minute time control with a 10-second increment per move, while the blitz event will feature a 3-minute time control with a 2-second increment per move.

Both events will adopt a single-round robin format in the elimination stage, with the top four teams in the men's and women's divisions advancing to a crossover semifinals.

Meanwhile, the final rankings for the boys' and girls' divisions will be determined by the results of the single-round robin phase.

Far Eastern University, which clinched the Season 87 championships in three divisions of the standard event, will look to extend its dominance.

Meanwhile, reigning men's division champion University of Santo Tomas aims to carry over its standard event success into the rapid and blitz competitions.

WITH defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman taking a bye in Round 5, University of Santo Tomas stepped into the spotlight, scoring impressive victories in both the boys' and girls' divisions of the UAAP Season 87 High School Chess Tournament on Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

In the girls' division, the Junior Tigress Woodpushers delivered a flawless performance, sweeping De La Salle Zobel 4-0 in Round 5. 

This dominant win kept UST close behind FEU-D, securing second place with six match points. 

UST's Daren Dela Cruz, Iana Sotaridona, Nathalie Liscano, and Alleana Gonzales each claimed victory over their DLSZ opponents Joedi Costes, Sarah Cabodil, Francesca Icay, and Ayana Montes, respectively.

The boys' division saw UST edge past fourth-running Ateneo High School with a narrow 2.5-1.5 victory. 

Sumer Oncita and Karlycris Clarito, Jr. outplayed Ateneo’s Aida Mejia and Yash Cayabyab, while John Cyrus Borce's draw with Jose Caro sealed the win for UST in Round 5. 

Luis Gabriel Gutierrez kept Ateneo competitive by defeating Jian Carlo Rivera on Board 4.

Adamson University also posted solid performances, securing the third spot in both divisions as they entered the season’s second half. 

In the boys' division, Jonver Acosta, Jian Bautista, and Bryce Bayani each earned victories over La Salle’s Nathan Navarro, Gian Marco Caguiat, and Christian Malabanan on Boards 2, 3, and 4, respectively, marking Adamson's second match win. 

Tyrhone Tabernilla kept the Junior Green Woodpushers on the board by defeating Baby Falcon Allan Dolfo on Board 1.

In the girls' division, Adamson narrowly triumphed over National University Nazareth School with a close 2.5-1.5 outcome. 

Christen Reyes and Ma. Christina Samarita led the charge, defeating Arena FIDE Master Ryien Bahita and Kyla Dalagan, while Florence Isabedra secured the victory by drawing against Sara Dalagan on Board 2. 

Jersey Marticio provided the Bullpups' only win, besting Lira Placer on Board 1.

The action in both divisions will pause for a week before resuming with Round 6 on November 3.

DEFENDING champion Far Eastern University completed a first-half sweep of the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Chess Tournament by securing their sixth consecutive victory with a decisive 3.5-0.5 win over Ateneo de Manila University in Round 7, held Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

The Lady Tamaraws have now scored at least three board points in all but one match, leading the standings with 12 match points.

In Round 7, Woman National Master Vic Glysen Derotas (6/6) claimed her sixth straight victory, outlasting Lexie Hernandez (4.5/6) in a 64-move English Opening marathon on Board 2.

Francheska Largo (4/4) also remained unbeaten, handing Glesit Tatoy (0/2) her second loss on Board 4.

Meanwhile, Woman National Master Mary Joy Tan (5/6) bested Ateneo's Alphecca Gonzales (1.5/4) on Board 3.

To close out the round, Woman National Master Mhage Sebastian (4.5/6) drew with Ma. Elayza Villa (4/6) on the top board.

In the men’s division, University of Santo Tomas asserted its dominance in Round 5 with a resounding 3.5-0.5 victory over previously undefeated University of the Philippines, strengthening their title defense.

The Male Woodpushers of UST finished the first half of the season with eight match points from four wins and one loss, establishing a gap over the Fighting Maroons, who is currently second with six match points.

UST’s victory was spearheaded by FIDE Master Christian Mark Daluz (5/5), who handed FIDE Master Stephen Pangilinan (3/5) his second loss with a 38-move masterclass on the top board.

Chester Reyes (2/3) earned his second straight win on Board 2, compelling Arena International Master Cyrus Francisco (2.5/5) to resign after just 30 moves of an English Opening.

Jan Clifford Labog (3/4) secured UST’s win with an unstoppable kingside attack that left Roderenz Adra (2.5/5) defenseless under time pressure on Board 3.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, Ateneo earned its first win of the season with a 3-1 triumph over Adamson University in Round 5.

The Lady Tamaraws now lead the standings with eight match points, holding a superior tiebreaker in total points scored over second-placed La Salle, who trails with six match points.

On Board 1, Woman National Master (WNM) Mhage Sebastian (4/4) showcased a brilliant combination of tactical moves in a closed position, forcing WNM Francois Magpily (2.5/4) to resign after 42 moves in a Sicilian Defense. 

WNM Vic Glysen Derotas (4/4) followed with a grueling 80-move victory over Arena Grandmaster Sara Olendo (1/4) on Board 3. Meanwhile, Francheska Largo (2/2) capitalized on a 35th-move blunder by Rinoa Sadey (3/4) in time pressure to secure FEU’s third point.

La Salle’s Checy Telesforo (1.5/3) prevented a shutout, holding Samantha Umayan (1.5/2) to a draw on Board 4.

In the men's division, defending champion University of Santo Tomas achieved its first shutout of the season, dismantling Adamson University 4-0, and overtaking University of the Philippines for the top spot.

Leading UST’s charge was FIDE Master (FM) Christian Daluz (4/4), who sacrificed his bishop for a powerful passed pawn, securing a decisive endgame victory over Joshua Roque (0.5/4) on Board 1.

FAR EASTERN University-Diliman dominated the competition, securing identical shutout victories to maintain top spot in both the boys' and girls' divisions at the conclusion of Round 4 of the UAAP Season 87 Chess Tournament on Sunday at the Adamson gym.

Before taking a bye in the next round, FEU-D ensured a clean sweep of their first-round matches in both divisions. 

The Baby Tamaraws blanked Adamson University 4-0, while the girls' team recorded a similar 4-0 victory over De La Salle-Zobel.

On Board 1, Oscar Cantela (3.5/4) bolstered his gold medal prospects, remaining undefeated after defeating Adamson’s Allan Rafael Dolfo (1/3). 

Fellow Baby Tamaraw Jerish John Velarde (3.5/4) maintained his Board 2 lead with a win over Raemund Bandejas (0.5/2).

Lemuel Jay Adena (3/3) and Arena Candidate Master Joemel Narzabal (2/2) completed FEU-D’s Round 4 sweep with victories over Jonver Acosta (1/3) and Jian Bautista (1/3) on Boards 3 and 4, respectively.

The Lady Baby Tamaraws had a similar performance. 

Kate Ordizo (3.5/4) and Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino (4/4) defeated La Salle's Joedi Costes (0/2) and Sarah Cabodil (0/2) on Boards 1 and 2, respectively.

On Board 3, April Joy Carlos (4/4) continued her perfect run, winning against Francesca Icay (0/2), while Franiel Magpily (1/2) triumphed over Jeslyn Santos (0/3) on Board 4.

In another girls' division match, University of Santo Tomas claimed its second straight victory with a 3.5-0.5 win over Adamson, securing solo second place.

Trina Temple (3/3) led UST with a flawless record, defeating the previously unbeaten Ma. Christina Samarita (2/3) on Board 4. Nathalie Liscano (2/2) also maintained her winning streak, overcoming Florence Isabedra (1/3) on Board 3.

Iana Sotaridona (2/3) added another point for UST with her win against Christen Reyes (1/2) on Board 2, while Daren dela Cruz (1/3) settled for a draw with ADU’s Lira Placer (1.5/3) on Board 1.

In the boys' division, UST also secured solo second place with a dominant 3.5-0.5 victory over De La Salle-Zobel.

Jian Rivera (2.5/3), Jude Dableo (1/2), and Marlon Balbaboco Jr. (1/1) each secured wins on Boards 2, 3, and 4, respectively, against James Karl Vinluan (0/3), Nathan Navarro (0/3), and Santino Edralin (0/1), rounding off UST's commanding performance in Round 4.

Tyrhone Tabernilla (1.5/3) was the only La Salle player to earn points, drawing with Karlycris Clarito Jr. (1.5/3) on Board 1.

Round 5 for both the boys' and girls' divisions will resume on Sunday, October 27.

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines managed to maintain its top spot after a 2-2 split with Ateneo de Manila University, while defending champion University of Santo Tomas also secured a nail-biting victory in Round 3 of the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men's Chess Tournament on Saturday at the Adamson gym.

The Fighting Maroons remain the league leaders with four match points, just half a point ahead of the Male Woodpushers, which also has four match points but trails in total points scored.

The Diliman-based squad kept Ateneo de Manila University winless with a 2-2 tie after each team scored a win and two draws.

FIDE Master Stephen Rome Pangilinan (3/3) continued his perfect record on the top board, achieving a 58-move victory over Paul Llanillo (0/3) in a rook-versus-bishop endgame. 

Roderenz Adra (1.5/3) and Arena Grandmaster Io Aristotle Calica (2/3) each settled for draws with Christopher Kis-ing (2/3) and Knarf Batislaong (1.5/3) on Boards 3 and 4, respectively. 

Romeo Canino (1/3) secured a win for Ateneo after forcing Arena International Master Cyrus Francisco (1.5/3) to resign in just 25 moves of an Alekhine's Defense while playing white on Board 2.

The Male Woodpushers, on the other hand, also experienced a heart-stopping finish with FIDE Master Christian Daluz's (3/3) brilliant comeback helping UST bounce back from an upset loss last week. 

They secured a close 2.5-1.5 victory over FEU, maintaining a tight grip on second place.

With the score tied at 1.5-1.5, Daluz rallied from a piece down to clinch victory after 76 moves in a rook endgame against FIDE Master Mark Bacojo (2/3) on Board 1. 

Former league MVP and skipper Melito Ocsan Jr. (1.5/2) contributed another win for UST by defeating Dale Bernardo (0.5/2) on Board 2, while Lee Roi Palma (2/3) drew with FIDE Master John Merill Jacutina (2.5/3) on Board 3. 

Christian Olaybal (1/1) secured the lone win for the Tamaraws against Julius Gonzales (0/1) on Board 4.

In the women's division, Far Eastern University faced a tough match against UP, relying on debuting Rhea Jean Canino’s (0.5/1) nerves of steel to force a draw in a grueling four-hour marathon against Raiza Locmayoan (1/2). 

This effort contributed to a 2.5-1.5 victory, keeping FEU atop the standings with six match points.

FEU came off back-to-back shutout victories before Canino played accurately, even while a pawn down in a rook and pawn endgame.

The match initially appeared to favor the Lady Tamaraws, as Woman National Masters Mhage Sebastian (3/3) and Vic Glysen Derotas (3/3) quickly scored victories over Jarel Lacambra (0.5/4) and Woman National Master Jerlyn San Diego (1/3) on Boards 1 and 2, respectively. 

However, UP's Jallen Agra (2/4) outplayed Woman National Master Mary Joy Tan (2/3) on Board 3, setting the stage for Canino’s heroic conversion against Locmayoan.

Adamson University made a breakthrough in the men's division, finally securing a point with a 2-2 tie against De La Salle University. 

John Rocel Simon (1/3) and Dustin Mackenzie (1/2) registered victories for the Falcons, defeating Daniel John Lemi (1.5/3) and John Lance Valencia (0/1) on Boards 3 and 4, respectively. 

On Board 1, Cyril Telesforo (1/3) took down Adamson's Vince Arellano (0/1), while Angele Biete (2.5/3) overcame Joshua Roque (0.5/3) on Board 2 to complete the split.

In other women’s division matches, the Lady Woodpushers of La Salle dispatched archrival Ateneo, 2.5-1.5, to reach six match points. 

Rinoa Sadey (3/3) and Lovely Geraldino (1/1) emerged victorious against Jiessel Marino (0/2) and Glesit Tatoy (0/1) on Boards 3 and 4, respectively. 

Francios Magpily's (2.5/3) draw with Ma. Elayza Villa (2.5/4) on Board 1 ensured DLSU's triumph, while Ateneo's Lexie Hernandez (4/4) outclassed Arena Grandmaster Sara Olendo (1/3) on Board 2.

The National University Lady Bulldogs rebounded from a tough loss against the defending champions with a commanding 3-1 victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons. 

Woman FIDE Master Allaney Doroy (2/3), Queen Rose Pamplona (1/2), and Natasja Balabbo (2/3) all secured wins against Angela San Luis (0.5/4), Christine Hernandez (0/1), and Mariane Flora (0/2) on Boards 1, 2, and 3, respectively. 

Adamson's Phoebie Arellano (2/4) prevented a shutout loss by defeating Princess Ballete (0/1) on Board 4.

Round 4 of the men's division is set Sunday, while Round 5 of the women's division will commence on the same day.

Far Eastern University-Diliman extended its lead in the championship race for both the boys' and girls' divisions after securing impressive victories in Round 3 of the UAAP Season 87 High School Chess Tournaments on Saturday at the Adamson Gym.

In the boys' division, the Baby Tamaraws triumphed over University of Santo Tomas with a hard-fought 2.5-1.5 victory, improving their match points to six. 

Oscar Cantela (2.5/3) led the charge on Board 1, forcing UST's Sumer Oncita (1/2) to resign after 46 moves of a symmetrical English Opening. 

Lemmuel Adena (2/2) contributed a second point for FEU-D with a 34-move win against Jude Dableo (0/1) on Board 4.

Jerish Velarde (2.5/3) helped preserve FEU-D's undefeated record by securing a draw with Karlycris Clarito Jr. (1/2) on Board 2, while UST's Jian Carlo Rivera (1.5/2) defeated Franklin Andes (1/2) on Board 3.

The Lady Baby Tamaraws also shone in the girls' division, posting a dominant 3-1 victory over Adamson University. 

Kate Ordizo (2.5/3), Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino (3/3), and April Joy Claros (3/3) outmaneuvered Adamson's Mikhaela Salvo (0/1), Lira Placer (1/2), and Florence Isabedra (1/2) on Boards 1, 2, and 3, respectively. 

Ma. Christina Samarita (2/2) prevented a shutout for ADU by scoring her second consecutive victory against FEU-D's Lyn Getubig (0/1) on Board 4.

The UST Jr. Female Woodpushers also celebrated a win, defeating National University of Nazareth with a commanding 3.5-0.5 scoreline. 

Iana Sotaridona (1/2), Nathalie Liscano (1/1), and Trina Temple (2/2) all secured full points against Juzeia Agne (1/3), Kyla Dalagan (1/2), and Kayla Aurelio (0/1) on Boards 2, 3, and 4, respectively. 

Daren dela Cruz (0.5/2) rounded out UST's performance with a draw against Jersey Marticio (1.5/3) on Board 1.

In another boys' division match, Ateneo de Manila High School bounced back from a previous loss, delivering a 3-1 drubbing of De La Salle Zobel. 

Arena FIDE Master Ronell Co (1.5/3), Luis Gabriel Gutierrez (1.5/3), and Arena FIDE Master Marc Fua (1/3) each secured victories against James Karl Vinluan (0/2), Nathan Navarro (0/2), and Gian Caguiat (0/2) on Boards 2, 3, and 4. 

Tyrhone Tabernilla (1/2) earned DLSZ's first win of the season by defeating Aida Lucas Mejia (0.5/2) on Board 1.

Round 4 for both the boys' and girls' divisions is scheduled for today at the Adamson Gym.

FAR EASTERN University continued its dominant run in the UAAP Season 87 Women's Chess Tournament, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Adamson University in Round 3 on Wednesday.

It was the Lady Tamaraws' second consecutive shutout, keeping their perfect record and placing them atop the standings with four match points.

After sitting out the opening round with a bye, FEU has swept back-to-back matches.

Leading the charge were Woman National Masters Mhage Sebastian (Board 1), Vic Glysen Derotas (Board 2), and Mary Joy Tan (Board 3), each delivering flawless performances to secure full points. They defeated Angela San Luis (0.5/3), Zheileen Jain (0/2), and Robelle de Jesus (1.5/3), respectively.

Samantha Umayan also made a successful season debut for the Lady Tamaraws, scoring a decisive victory over Phoebie Arellano (1/3) on Board 4 to complete the sweep.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University claimed an impressive 3-1 win over University of the Philippines, moving into second place with four match points.

Ma. Elayza Villa (Board 2) and Lexie Hernandez (Board 3) led Ateneo with victories against Precious Eve Ferrer (0/3) and Jallen Agra (1/3), respectively.

On Board 1 and Board 4, Kristine Flores and Alphecca Gonzales settled for draws against Jarel Lacambra (0.5/3) and Raiza Mae Locmayoan (0.5/2), securing the blue Eagles' overall triumph.

De La Salle University also reached four match points after a narrow 2.5-1.5 win against University of Santo Tomas.

Woman National Masters Francois Magpily (Board 1) and Rinoa Sadey (Board 3) led the Lady Woodpushers with victories over Josemier Panol and Rohanisah Buto.

Arena Grandmaster Sara Olendo sealed the victory by drawing her match against Precious Yecla on Board 2.

The Female Woodpushers' lone win came from Princess Oncita, who defeated Checy Telesforo on Board 4.

Round 4 of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, where FEU, Ateneo, and La Salle will look to maintain their strong momentum.

DEFENDING champion Far Eastern University made a statement in its UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Women’s Chess debut, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over archrival National University on Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

Woman National Master Mhage Sebastian [1/1], Vic Glysen Derotas [1/1], reigning MVP Woman National Master Mary Joy Tan [1/1], and Franchesca Largo [1/1] each delivered wins against Woman FIDE Master Allaney Doroy [1/2], Yana De Vera [0.5/2], Natasja Balabbo [1/2], and Jelaine Adriano [0/1] to complete the sweep.

FEU, seeking a back-to-back, now sits in third place behind University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo after an opening round bye.

UST claimed the top spot at the end of Round 2 with a narrow 2.5-1.5 win over the University of the Philippines.

On Board 1, Josemier Panol [2/2] showcased resilience, turning a disadvantageous position into a win by putting Jarel Lacambra [0/2] in time pressure, eventually winning via flag down. On Board 3, Rohanisah Buto [1/2] forced Precious Eve Ferrer to resign after launching an unstoppable mating attack by the 50th move. Meanwhile, Precious Yecla [1.5/2] secured a draw against Woman FIDE Master Jerlyn San Diego [1/2] on Board 2.

UST’s lone loss came on Board 4, where Jenny Tulo [0/1] fell to Jallen Agra [1/2].

Ateneo climbed to second place with a 3-1 win over Adamson University, led by victories from Lexie Hernandez [2/2] and Alphecca Gonzales [1/1] over Mariane Flora [0/1] and Phoebie Arellano [1/2] on Boards 3 and 4, respectively.

In the men’s division, University of the Philippines stormed to the top of the standings with a 4-0 shutout of Adamson University.

FIDE Master Stephen Rome Pangilinan [2/2] notched his second straight win on Board 1, defeating Joshua Roque [0.5/2] in 48 moves using the black pieces in a Queen’s Pawn Opening. On Board 4, Arena Grandmaster Io Aristotle Calica [1.5/2] pulled off a tactical masterclass on the 20th move, going up a piece and finishing Dustin Herrero [0/1] in just 33 moves.

Arena International Master Cyrus Francisco [1.5/2] and Roderenz Adra [1/2] rounded out UP’s dominant performance with wins over Arena International Master Alfonzo Olendo [0/2] and John Rocel Simon [0/2] on Boards 2 and 3.

FEU closely trails UP in second place after a 2-2 draw with Ateneo.

Rookie FIDE Master Mark Jay Bacojo [2/2] and FIDE Master John Merill Jacutina [2/2] secured victories on Boards 1 and 2 against Paul Matthew Llanillo [0/2] and Romeo Canino [0/2], respectively. However, Ateneo’s Christopher Kis-ing [1.5/2] and Knarf Bastislaong [1/2] countered with wins on Boards 3 and 4, overcoming FIDE Master Jeth Romy Morado [1/2] and Israelito Rilloraza [0/1].

De La Salle University pulled off an upset with a stunning 2.5-1.5 victory over defending champion University of Santo Tomas.

Angele Biete [1.5/2] and Daniel John Lemi [1.5/2] secured key wins for DLSU over Chester Neil Reyes [0/1] and Jan Clifford Labog [1/2] on Boards 2 and 3. Kris Oswald Olvido [0.5/1] forced a draw against Lee Roi Palma [1.5/2] on Board 4, sealing the victory for La Salle. FIDE Master Christian Mark Daluz [2/2] provided UST’s only win in Round 2, defeating Cyril Telesforo [0/2] on Board 1.

Round 3 of the women’s division is set for Wednesday, October 16, while the men’s division will resume on Saturday, October 19.
