The third day of the WFDF 2023 Asia Oceanic Ultimate & Guts Championships (AOUGC) was held with more games for the Philippine Ultimate National Team (hereafter Pilipinas Ultimate) and the participating club South Team Durian.
In Open Pool A, the Pilipinas Ultimate Open Team had a strong day by beating Singapore’s Disc Knights with a score of 15–6 and then following it up with a clutch 14–13 victory against the Japan Open Team.
In Open Pool B, Binata Ultimate (Philippines U24 Men’s Team) won 13–7 against Team India’s Open Team. Binata Ultimate, however, struggled to find their form against the Australia Open Team and was dealt with a 15–4 loss.
In the Women’s Division, Binibinis Ultimate (Philippines Women’s National Team) suffered a streak of losses against the Chinese Taipei Women’s Team, the Japan Women’s Team, and Singapore’s Pangolins Team. The 6–9 loss against Chinese Taipei was a continuation of the game yesterday that was suspended. The Japan Women’s Team showed why they were yet undefeated in the tournament, after Binibinis Ultimate fell to them 15–4. Lastly, Binibinis Ultimate lost a close 8–10 match to the Pangolins.
In the Mixed Crossovers Division, the Pilipinas Ultimate Mixed Team lost to the MÄnuka team 9–10 in their bracket game. Their game the following day will determine their final placement in the bracket.
In the Master Mixed Division, the Philippines Master Mixed Team and club South Team Durian both split their games. The Philippines Master Mixed Team overcame Singapore’s Vintage Team with a 13–10 victory, but fell short 9–12 against the People’s Republic of China Master Mixed Team. Club South Team Durian defeated the Team India Master Team with a 15–7 slate, but later got bested 9–12 by the Singapore Vintage Team. The two Philippine teams will compete the following day for a chance to play in the finals of the Master Mixed Division.
This weekend will see the crowning of the champions of the major division of AOUGC, with the Master Mixed Division to be known on Saturday afternoon, followed by the finals of the Open, Women, and Mixed Divisions on Sunday.
All matches of the AOUGC, which is taking place under the auspices of the Philippine Flying Disc Association and an official event of the World Flying Disc Federation, are taking place at the Ayala Alabang Country Club.
