UCBL champions Diliman College kicked off their campaign in the Fr. Martin's Cup Summer League with a smashing 107-76 victory this past Saturday, April 13 inside the San Beda campus in Mendiola.
Four players finished in double figures for the Blue Dragons, with Johnnel Bauzon leading the way with his twenty points. Joseph Brutas nailed four triples on his way to eighteen markers. Completing the quartet are John Mahari and Kevin Gandjeto with fourteen and twelve points, respectively.
Diliman rode on a strong start, using back-to-back Brutas triples to open the game at 13-3, which they would extend to 29-11 after one quarter of play. The Rensy Bajar-coached team never looked back since.
Daryl Pascual led the Knights with a game-high 21 points, as they fell to 0-2 in Group B.
In the lone high school basketball matchup scheduled, Arellano defeated La Consolacion College-Manila, 71-64.
JC Recto led the Braves with twenty points, with Ivan Salinel adding seventeen, five of them coming in a key stretch to fend off the Junior Blue Royals.
Arellano established a 35-17 lead during the second quarter, but LCC-M would manage to cut that down to 63-57 before Salinel's heroics secured the victory.
The 25th edition of the Fr. Martin's Cup Summer League is presented by Resorts World Manila and the Bedans Class 62-66.
