This is Matthyse's second fight in this division, having beaten Emmanuel Taylor this past May in the undercard of Canelo vs Julio Cesar Chavez jr.. The 35-year-old has defeated the likes of Humberto Soto, Lamont Peterson, and Ruslan Provodnikov.
Matthyse, however, will be facing someone who is about to make his overseas debut. Kiram is ten years younger and has won all 38 of his fights. For the former Muay Thai fighter, this is arguably the biggest test of his boxing career.
Meanwhile, serving as the undercard for Mathysse-Kiram is Jorge Linares against Mercito Gesta.
Linares is the current WBA lightweight world champion, and he will be making his sixth title defense. The Tokyo-based Venezuelan hopes that a convincing victory here could potentially net him future opportunities against the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko.
Gesta has won five of his last six matches, with two of those coming by way of knockout. The San Diego-based Cebuano is currently being trained by Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, the same man taking care of Manny Pacquiao.
