Even with Davao still seeking their first victory of the season, head coach Aris Caslib still views them as a potential threat. He believes, "This will be a tough match. Our players must improve their organization in attack." He adds that key players will be shuffled into different positions for this matchup.
Caslib also cited the presence of Davao's Serbian striker Nikola Grubješić, whom he described as "quiet but a veteran of the Swedish league."
The Sparks are coming in generally healthy, save for Eddie Mallari. Central defender Jeong Min Lee is highly likely to dress, given the state of his injured toe. They have been relying on a balanced scoring attack that has seen seven different players score goals this early in the conference.
As for Davao, head coach Gary Phillips acknowledged some depth concerns due to injuries and suspensions. Injuries will keep Van Rey Diaz and Kim Versales at the sidelines, while dengue fever has downed Andreas Esswein for the next few weeks. Meanwhile, team captain and former Philippine international Jason Cordova will be serving his one-match suspension after being sent off against Kaya FC-Makati a couple of weeks ago.
In spite of this, Dylan de Bruycker expressed confidence that the squad is strong enough to win tonight. The Filipino of Belgian descent has scored thrice this season for the lone Mindanao squad in the league.
Kickoff tonight is 7pm. Tickets are available at the venue and cost just PhP 20 both for grandstand and bleachers. Those seeking a streaming link can check out the video below.
