NBTC National Coaches Convention set for March

SM NBTC

From being a fixture every October, the annual NBTC National Coaches Convention has a new date.

The eighth edition of the gathering of basketball coaches from all across the archipelago will now take place during March 22-24 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The NBTC NCC now coincides with the Chooks-to-Go NBTC National Finals, which takes place during that particular week, something both Training Director Alex Compton and Program Director Eric Altamirano noted after some of the coaches expressed interest to watch the National Finals.

Among the confirmed speakers for the event are Ateneo de Manila head coach Tab Baldwin, former Australia national team head coach Rob Beveridge, former FEU and TNT head coach Nash Racela, John C. Maxwell-certified leadership coach Ardy Abello, and Singapore's Youth Sports Institute head Vincent Ong.

Around 1500 coaches are expected to attend, as well as teachers, after the NBTC and the Department of Education hatched out an agreement that clears the way for those who want to attend the proceedings.

The NBTC also announced that they have entered into a partnership with Go For Gold, as well as with Gatorade.

Go for Gold's Jeremy Go expressed excitement about his participation alongside the NBTC, "We are happy to partner with NBTC to bring proper basketball knowledge throughout the country because we believe in grassroots development for athletes. We need to start them young so they learn about responsibility and discipline at an early age. And coaches are the key to their development."

Go for Gold has been involved with the development of athletes on the national team, most notably in triathlon.

As for Gatorade, it will be the Official Sports Drink of the NBTC Program, as well as the NBTC Coaches Convention presented by Go for Gold. Altamirano shared that one of the Convention's speakers will be Dr. George Canlas, who alongside with his sports science team, will teach proper hydration techniques that aims to keep athletes hydrated before, during, and after training and games.
