The Philippines is participating in both the men's and women's edition of the FIBA-Asia 3x3 U18 championships this weekend.

Being held inside the Gem-In shopping mall at Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia, the Pinoys are one of twelve men's and twelve women's teams competing in the tournament, which is put together by both FIBA and the Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA). NBL Asia is helping out with the organization of the tournament.

The Gilas boys are the defending champions in the men's division, although they will not have someone like Creighton-bound Kobe Paras backstopping the team. Instead, the foursome of Kyle Christian Tan, John Lloyd Clemente, John Martin Galinato and Rhayyan Amsali will attempt to carve their own name into FIBA history.

The Perlas girls, who all hail from Dagupan, are led by Kristine Cayabyab, who is one of the finalists who took part in the Philippine version of the Nike Rise project. Completing the quartet are Mary Ann Cayabyab, Jenilyn Gamboa, and Cristel Mae Dizon.

Serving as coaches for the teams are Anton Altamirano and Mark Solano, while SBP Region I Director Edilberto Abalos and coach Jethru Yao also serve as part of the Philippine delegation.
