Macau will have new representation at the upcoming East Asia Super League season, with Hou Chon Basketball Club becoming the Special Administrative Region's champion.
In celebrating their achievement, team owner Jeff Cheong shares, "It is an honor for Hou Chon Basketball Club to compete in EASL for the 2026-27 season. Qualifying for EASL is an important opportunity for our club and our players. It means that we will truly represent Macau SAR in Asia’s premier basketball league, bringing our local players onto the international stage to compete and learn alongside world-class powerhouses. This is not only an honor for Hou Chon, but also a crucial step forward in the internationalization of Macau SAR basketball."
From the league's perspective, EASL CEO Mark Kerins notes, "We're pleased to welcome Hou Chon Basketball Club to EASL for the 2026-27 season. Macau SAR has become an important part of EASL over the past several years, both as a host market and through its clubs. We look forward to seeing Hou Chon represent Macau SAR and compete on the regional stage."
Founded in 2012, Hou Chon BC reached the mountaintop at the All-Macau Basketball Silver Medal League in clinching the 2026 Senior Division championship, becoming the second club in the region to secure this level of continental play, following the Macau Black Bears in the last couple of seasons.
Hou Chon's qualification brings the number of confirmed teams for the 2026-27 EASL season to 11 across six territories. Clubs from Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR have secured their places, with additional teams to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
