Aside from the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship this coming September, the Philippine National Volleyball Federation is set to hold other major domestic and international competitions both on the taraflex and the sands.
Set to commence today is the inaugural edition of the Men's Under-21 Championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, with eight participating teams.
The field is split into two four-team groups for preliminary action, with Group A composed of Volleyball Never Stops (VNS), Silay Volleyball Club (SVC), Zamboanga City, and Lingayen. VNS and SVC will kick off the tournament at 9am today, followed by Zamboanga-Lingayen at 1130am.
Group B will have Umingan Volleyball Club (UVC), Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club (CNV), and the University of the East. UVC-NDDU will take place is the group's opener at 2pm, with CNV-UE set to cap off opening day action at 430pm.
Prelims will continue until Friday, with the semifinals scheduled on Saturday. The inaugural champion of the competition is slated on Sunday.
PNVF President Ramon Suzara says about the competition, "The Under-21 championship is part and parcel of the national team program that aims to maintain the production line of talents for international competitions."
Supporting the U21 Championship are Akari, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Meralco, PLDT, Smart, AyalaLand, Nuvali, Mikasa, Senoh, Asics, Rebisco, Cignal, OneSports, OneSports+ and Pilipinas Live.
Also scheduled to take place this year at the Nuvali Sand Courts are a few major beach competitions, namely the National Beach Volleyball Championships in February, as well as the second edition of the Nuvali Open this coming April.
Aside from the AVC Beach Tour event, the City of Santa Rosa will also has a FIVB World Beach Pro Tour Futures leg.
