LALIGA set for upcoming opener

LaLIGA

With the start of the 2025/26 season looming in the horizon this month, LALIGA is ready to emerge with new features and a revamped broadcast experience.

Reflecting its commitment towards innovation, expect a new pre-match opening sequence for both its matches in LALIGA EA SPORTS (Primera Division) and LALIGA HYPERMOTION (Segunda Division). Its theme highlights the collective strength of its clubs and immerse viewers into its world moments before kickoff.

The new opening will make its debut on August 15 (16 in the Philippines), the first day of the new season. It will feature a three-dimensional visual composition, based on the movement of shapes, materials, and textures reminiscent of artisanal metalwork. The sequence then builds a narrative where each element interweaves fluidly, converging into a unified whole. This metamorphosis symbolizes the coming together of clubs under a collective identity, with LALIGA as the unifying element, a visual metaphor for its positioning: “The Power of Our Fútbol.”

In addition, LALIGA's "See what you've never seen before" campaign will be shown through its broadcast partners, with the objective of reigniting fan excitement through evoking emotions one experienced during the past season. It will also include a variety of cross-cutting activations all across the LALIGA ecosystem tailored to further enhance the fan experience. Further activations are set to occur worldwide down the line, as LALIGA seeks to bring this exact experience worldwide.

Jesus Navas bids goodbye to football

Sevilla held a special ceremony to allow their fans to give a proper send-off to Jesus Navas. LALIGA shared an English translation of the speech he prepared for that ceremony at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Good afternoon everyone, and thank you for joining me and for sharing all this time together. Today we close a life playing football, enjoying the game. Getting up, going to training, sharing hours in the changing room, getting out on the grass, touching the ball, traveling, games... and so on up to 705 with my Sevilla; 39 more with Sevilla Atlético, whose honour I have to play in the stadium that bears my name; 183 matches in my four years in all competitions with Manchester City; and 61 with my national team of Spain divided into 56 with the senior team and 5 with the Under-21s. I've been fortunate to lift trophies, wherever I've played I've shared the titles with my teammates, but nothing has changed my behaviour. Because I'm still a simple guy... and I love my Sevilla FC.

The truth is that the next few days are going to be difficult for me. That's why I want to start by thanking Pablo Blanco, who gave me to make my debut as a Sevillista at the age of 15. And believe it or not, the road has not been long for me. On the contrary. It has even been short, believe it or not. For me, playing football is the best, I enjoy it and that's why I've made it to 39. I live to give joy to my Sevilla and the Spanish fans. And if it hadn't been for my hip, I would have continued, that's for sure. That's why it was very difficult for me to say: this is the end here. But it's not something new, I had been suffering from this for four years and, honestly, I couldn't take it anymore.

Before, when I looked at the games played, I did not count the countless games of my training, those that I attended accompanied by my grandfather Antonio, who also took me to training. These are moments when unforgettable memories come to my mind with my parents, Paco and Aurora. Thanks, mum, thanks dad. I only hope I have been able to return the love with which you have treated me all my life. I trust that you are proud of your five children - Paco, Marco (thank you brother for your help on the road we traveled together), Jesús, José Mari and Javi - and that my behavior and my commitment to the family make you happy. Those values that you taught me, not to change and to be the same from day one, are the same values that I now pass on to my children.

Then came into my life the person who brings me balance and moderation, my love. I want to thank Alejandra who never left me alone, even in the worst moments. In difficulty I have counted on her, she has helped me, she has understood me and has put up with me because of how I live football. She has put up with my bad moments, my mood swings and loneliness. When we lose, I don't want to see anyone. It is not easy to coexist in those moments and Alejandra, you have shown me that you understand me like no one else in this world. Thank you for your patience and thank you for loving me so much. Ale, with you we have formed a family with Jesus and Romeo, my two little ones, my two jewels, the reason of my life. Together with your mother, we instilled in you the values we grew up with. Passion, respect and humility are not lacking in your education. And besides, you are Sevillistas."

For me these six months have been a gift knowing the problems I have endured. I have been suffering from hip problems for several years, but in the last few weeks the condition has worsened, it has been getting worse. Returning to training and playing has been very difficult, but very emotional at the same time. Why leave in December?  What I wanted was to accompany my teammates in this stretch. We came from two very difficult years and I wanted to be with the team, to help in this transition to help the younger players and to pass on my experience of how I understand how great Sevilla FC is.

Since the first moment, Joaquín Caparrós, who gave me the opportunity to fulfill the dream of making my debut in the first team, I have worked with many coaches and I have learned from all of them. My debut came at Montjuïc against Espanyol, I came on for Paco Gallardo, and since then we have achieved many things. Perhaps the first Europa League, after so many years, may be the most special for giving that joy to the fans? But all titles are wonderful.

I do not forget the very hard personal moments that I have had to overcome, the painful losses of Jose Reyes and Antonio Puerta. I decided to wear Puerta's number because my desire has been to give my all for him in every game. And that's what it has to be, to give joy to the fans in their memory and in the memory of two Sevillistas who left us too soon and too young.

My adventure in Manchester was very fulfilling The help, among others, of the coach, Manuel Pellegrini, allowed us to win and enjoy ourselves away from home. I belong to only one club, but I have to divide my CV between two teams. At City I was happy and matured as a player and as a person. I will be enormously grateful to the people and the fans for all the affection they showed me.

South Africa 2010, that afternoon at Soccer City in Johannesburg, will remain engrained in the memory of all Spaniards. Participating in the goal was the icing on the cake of a historic feat for our football. I'm not forgetting Kiev, another unforgettable memory. However, this last period with Luis de la Fuente's national team has filled me with great joy. It has been a time of dedication and sacrifice until the end, with a happy ending. For that reason, it has been incredible playing for my country. The memories remain intact and we are proud to have made so many people happy.

I end by thanking all the club's employees, all those who have been working tirelessly for months to organise today. Thank you all very much. I leave the most important thank you for last. Yes, you, the Sevillistas who live every day with passion, with emotion and with the energy of sharing this glorious feeling. Because no one is greater than you. Nobody feels the way you feel. Nobody loves this red-and-white family as much as you do. No one feels the pride of football in this city more than you do. No one better than you to guide us on the road to success.

They say that we never give up, so my greatest wish is that the team maintains the legacy that I have tried to give every day, which is to give everything on the pitch, until the final whistle. May these players and the ones to come do the same so that you can carry them on your shoulders. Make an effort and do not give up, dignify this shirt and this badge. Always in my heart because you will never forget: I will be a Sevillista until I die. I will miss you very much. Come on Sevilla!

Navas finished his career with 705 appearances for Sevilla in his long and illustrious career.

What to watch out in LALIGA for 2025

c/o LALIGA

2024 has provided some memorable moments in both LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION, but as we turn the page to 2025, it promises to be just as exciting and there is so much to look forward to. Some of the reasons we can share already here.

A fierce battle for the LALIGA EA SPORTS title

Heading into the upcoming matchup between Real Madrid and Valencia on Saturday morning, Manila time, Atletico de Madrid is hanging on to a one-point lead over the defending champions, 41 to 40. Both teams have a game in hand to FC Barcelona, who is currently in third place with 38 points, making this a competitive race for the championship.

The Catalans had a strong start to the season, but since their 3-1 victory over their city rivals RCD Espanyol in early November, they have only won once in their last seven league matches, capped off by their 2-1 home defeat to Atleti on a 90+6' goal from Alexander Sørloth.

Athletic Club could return to the Champions League after a 10-year absence

Just two points adrift of FC Barcelona in fourth place and not just that far off from the title chase in Athletic Club. If the standings hold firm until the end of the season, it would mean a return to the UEFA Champions League a decade after their last appearance.

Fresh from claiming the Copa del Rey last season, Los Leones have done well both domestically being the only other team aside from the top three currently with double-digit victories, as well as in the UEFA Europa League, where they are level in points with Italian side Lazio atop the league phase.

The Basques already have a huge incentive to do well continentally, as the Europa League final will be held at their home stadium at San Mames this May.

LALIGA HYPERMOTION is heating up as clubs seek promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS

The quest to join the Spanish top-flight is very much complicated, too.

UD Almería currently leads the race at LALIGA HYPERMOTION with 39 points, with CD Mirandés and Real Racing Club just one point behind. The top half of the table is separated by just ten points, so anything is still possible in the quest to get promoted.

With so many historic Spanish clubs in contention and hopeful to return to the top flight after years of toiling in the lower divisions, things are about to get even more intense.

In addition, it was a LALIGA HYPERMOTION side who made a major transaction that got Filipino football fans to take notice, when CD Castellon snapped up Nick Markanich from the Charleston Battery in the USL.

Markanich was crowned 2024 Championship Player of the Year, named All-League First Team and won the Golden Boot after setting a new league record with 28 goals scored in the regular season, which was the most goals scored in America across all domestic leagues. The NIU alumnus actually scored thirty goals in all competitions.

Kylian Mbappé, Julián Álvarez and Lamine Yamal seek their first LALIGA EA SPORTS title

Three of the sport's biggest sensations are battling it out for their first LALIGA EA SPORTS title to their trophy cabinets.

Mbappé already has a head start with regards to silverware this season, having claimed two titles since joining the team in the summer, as Real Madrid defeated Atalanta, 2-0 for the UEFA Super Cup, followed by a 3-0 triumph over Pachuca for the Intercontinental Cup. The Frenchman scored in both matches, and currently has thirteen goals in all competitions. Ten of those goals came in league play, which is tied for third alongside Ante Budimir behind a couple of FC Barcelona scoring machines in Robert Lewandowski (16) and Rapinha (11).

Lamine Yamal actually made his debut with FC Barcelona back in the 2022/23 season, the last league title the Catalans secured the trophy. Now armed with much more experience, especially after helping Spain reclaim prominence in the Euros, he has made it a priority to win collective titles for the team after racking up numerous individual achievements, including the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy Award.

Alvarez, like Yamal, has scored five goals in league play, helping Atleti reach the top of LALIGA EA SPORTS. Much like in his previous stop, he has a Norwegian scoring merchant alongside him, veteran leadership, and is managed by one of the best in the world. The Argentine is hopeful he can claim a league crown to accompany his World Cup crowning achievement.

New Rising Stars

A study back in November from the CIES Football Observatory highlighted the success of the academies from the different LALIGA clubs, which has translated into the current success of the Spanish national team in claiming both the Euros and the Paris Olympics.

Leading the way in this regard is FC Barcelona and their 46 La Masia graduates strewn all across the Big Five European leagues, twelve of which are still with the team, led by Lamine Yamal. Basque sides Real Sociedad and Athletic Club take pride in their grassroots development, with a combined 29 academy graduates in their respective first teams, led by La Real captain Mikel Oyarzabal and the Williams brothers of Athletic, Inaki and Nico.

As a result, the likes of Marc Bernal, Marc Casadó, Pau Cubarsi, and Gerard Martín from FC Barcelona, Jon Aramburu, Pablo Marín, Jon Pacheco and Jon Ander Olasagasti from Real Sociedad, and Mikel Jauregizar and Adama Boiro from Athletic Bilbao have emerged.

Other notables include Manu Bueno, who scored in Jesus Navas' final home game for Sevilla FC, as well as Hugo Alvarez of RC Celta, who has provided an additional scoring threat for Claudio Giráldez alongside Iago Aspas and Borja Iglesias.

Not to be outdone, Real Madrid also has a young gun rising up the ranks, as Raúl Asencio has stepped in to help address depth issues at the back line that has been hampered by injuries. This is of course complemented by their key signings in the past few seasons, from Rodrygo, Camavinga, Bellingham, to Endrick and Arda Guler, with the latter two not yet reaching the age of twenty.

And more are coming down the pipeline, thanks to the efforts LALIGA are conducting to help grow the game, including holding grassroots competitions like the recently-concluded LALIGA FC FUTURES  for the U-13 age group, won by Sevilla FC.

Real Madrid-Valencia set to kick off LALIGA in 2025

c/o LALIGA

Kicking off 2025 for LALIGA is a matchup involving two teams in with contrasting positions on the table.

Originally scheduled for early November for Matchday 12, the matchup between Real Madrid and Valencia CF was among the fixtures postponed as a result of the DANA storm that had a major effect on the Valencian Community days prior. The match is set to kick off at 4am Manila time on January 4, with the match to be shown LIVE on beIN Sport.

At the time of the postponement, Real Madrid was trailing then-leaders FC Barcelona by nine points thanks to the latter's 3-1 victory over Catalan rivals RCD Espanyol. Things have changed since, with Los Blancos now in second place behind new leaders Atletico de Madrid by a single point. A victory at the Mestalla, coupled with Atleti dropping points this weekend against CA Osasuna would enable the defending champions to back on top.

The Spanish giants have bounced back nicely after their stunning 4-0 defeat against FC Barcelona, winning five of their next seven league matchups, capped off by an impressive 4-2 triumph over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu. During that same stretch, they have scored at least a couple of goals in all but one game.

Carlo Ancelotti gotten much out of his trident combination of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Jude Bellingham, but also serving as key offensive pieces to produce such form are Fede Valverde and Rodrygo.

However, the Mestalla has served as a challenge, with only two wins in their last ten matches, including a 2-2 draw and a 1-0 defeat in the last couple of seasons. It also was the venue where Vinicius had to deal with misbehavior from a few football fans, which led to the first convictions relating to racist insults in Spain.

As for Los Che, the team has struggled, only procuring two wins so far this season, including a winless December in league action that has dragged to the bottom of the table alongside Valladolid .

With the prospects of relegation looming, the squad has made a coaching change, installing Carlos Corberan to replace club legend Ruben Baraja.

He came back home after his stint in England with West Bromwich Albion, where he had been in charge of the Championship side for 26 months, taking the Baggies to the Promotion Playoffs last season and keeping them in the hunt for that opportunity this season.

Carlos shares during his presentation, "Thanks to Valencia CF for believing in me... I would like to send a message of affection, of remembrance to all those victims who suffered the terrible consequences of the DANA tragedy. I am a resident of Cheste, one of the affected towns. From a distance, I experienced it with great sadness, because it was a very painful situation."

The former Marcelo Bielsa assistant adds, "I am here to work and to give my best, so everyone should be convinced that I am going to give my all in this... I am a Valencianista who is going to work with great responsibility, and the dedication that I am going to have to achieve the objective is going to be the maximum that a coach can have."

Valencia CF is hoping that a new manager bounce coupled with their recent home form against Real Madrid would provide them the necessary spark for a potential upset to kickstart the year.

LALIGA reaffirms commitment towards hate-free football with their Christmas 2024 campaign

c/o LALIGA

With the holiday season approaching, LALIGA reaffirmed its commitment to address hate with their Christmas 2024 campaign, using a message that children "see everything" due to their innocence.

This year's work to address and eradicate intolerant behaviour inside and outside of stadia has been highlighted with several key milestones, including a historic first-ever court conviction for racist insults that took place at the Mestalla, the impact of the MOOD tool in monitoring hate speech on social media, and the consolidation of agreements with the Ministry of Inclusion and with autonomous communities.

Thanks to the first conviction due to racist insults in a Spanish football stadium, it lays the groundwork for effective action against anyone attacking another's dignity. Such a ruling provides a paradigm shift in addressing hate speech through legal certainty, serving as a guide for future cases down the line. As such, a second legal judgment already was rendered this past September, consolidating the legal criteria on potential consequences regarding such behavior.

The collaboration with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration over the use of MOOD, a pioneering tool for monitoring hate speech on social media, has made immediate dividends with a 45% drop in hate speech and a 90% drop in racist mentions compared to the end of last season. Such decrease illustrates the impact of coordinated actions and highlights the importance of technology in detecting and preventing intolerant behavior.

LALIGA has also forged closer ties with sixteen autonomous communities by sharing experiences and good practices to addressing racism and xenophobia on a regional level. 94 percent of the communities have already implemented specific measures in this area, proof of collective mobilization at all levels. Moreover, the involvement of clubs, security forces, athletes, media and political representatives has led to a stronger and more coordinated ecosystem against hate.

On its own over the past eight years, LALIGA has launched over seven hundred initiatives and projects connected with this cause at all levels, aimed towards education, raising awareness, and reporting. One such project is its Futura Afición program, which has been integrated into the FUNDACION LALIGA as it instills the values of respect and fair play from as early in the youth level and reinforce the message that the sport of football should lead the way with regards to integration, self-improvement and diversity.

In addition, LALIGA has taken this internationally by joining the Fit for Life alliance established by UNESCO, a global front in the fight against racism. Their domestic experience and track record in raising awareness, education, and generating tools to promote a fairer, more inclusive, and a more respectful sporting environment would come in handy in the larger sphere.

As the page turns to 2025, LALIGA remains committed to highlight football's role as a level for social change. LALIGA Director of Brand and Strategy Ángel Fernández shares, "These results aren’t the result of a one-off effort; rather, they stem from a constant and coordinated effort. We view football as an engine of social transformation that transcends the field of play. The Christmas 2024 campaign is an opportunity to return to a message that will be key in 2025: the fight against racism and hatred cannot be delayed and football, with its enormous power of influence, remains at the forefront of this fight. We will continue to work together with institutions and fans so that the new generations find in sport an inclusive, formative and fully respectful space."

In line with this, LALIGA will continue its efforts to secure a football free of all forms of hatred by promoting new projects and initiatives and by strengthening cooperation with the authorities.

Stallion Laguna FC claims PFF Women's Cup title

Stallion Laguna FC

Stallion Laguna FC claimed the 2024 edition of the PFF Women's Cup on Monday night, dispatching Kaya FC-Iloilo, 1-0 in the final that took place at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The lone goal of the match came early on, as Chandler McDaniel volleyed it past the keeper from way outside the box about 120 seconds into the match.

McDaniel shared afterwards, "We wanted to come in and make a statement we wanted to win of course... Coming from last season, we really wanted to make a statement, come back and that’s exactly what we did and we will keep on moving."

The McDaniel siblings returned to the club after a brief sojourn overseas, highlighting the major buildup the team had in the offseason, which included signings like recent national team callups Jess Miclat, and Bella Pasion, as well as other acquisitions like Jamia Fields, whose stoppage-time winner allowed them to beat Kaya in the preliminaries.

Chandler and Olivia also led the individual awardees that were also handed out that evening, with the former named as the Most Valuable Player and the latter as the Best Goalkeeper.

Other individual awardees include Hali Long as the Best Defender, Katrina Wetherell as the Best Midfielder, and Golden Boot awardee Julissa Cisneros, who scored eleven goals in the competition.

The PFF Women’s Cup 2024 showcased the incredible talent and dedication of women’s football, and we are excited to continue supporting the growth of the sport in the Philippines."

Supported as well by Coca-Cola, the PFF Women's Cup showcased some of the best of the best in women's football being played in the country, allowed its athletes to have a platform in which to shine. Expect more action down the line with the PFF Women's League slated to take place in 2025.

Klimala brace tows Sydney FC triumph over Kaya FC

c/o AFC

Kaya FC-Iloilo suffered back-to-back defeats in AFC Champions League Two action on Thursday night, bowing to Sydney FC, 1-4, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The PFL champions managed to start off strong, with captain Audie Menzi finding Daizo Horikoshi for a textbook finish after three minutes.

Caught off guard, the A-League side gathered themselves and tried to find an answer, eventually securing the equalizer after 26 minutes.

Joe Lolley would take advantage of Simone Rota's error in clearance, sending a shot past Walid Essafi to tie things us.

Both sides had efforts to secure a second goal before the break, with best opportunities coming from the visitors.

A Douglas Costa shot from distance in the 35th minute went just wide of the left post, while Lolley's attempt off a setup from Rhyan Grant was deflected before being eventually saved by Essafi.

Kaya did have a chance to add to the tally, but a Yi-Young Park's free kick was slightly off target.

The second half proved to be a different story, as Sydney decided to increase the tempo, eventually cracking the Kaya FC defense.

Costa sent a looping cross that a Patryk Klimala header powers past Essafi in the 59th minute to give Sydney the lead. The Pole then would double his tally four minutes later, receiving a cross from Anas Ouahim and then volleying it home from a reverse angle.

Capping off the victory is a injury-time strike from substitute Nathan Amanatidis in stoppage time, securing his first goal for the club.

With back-to-back wins, Sydney FC is now atop Group E with six points, while Kaya FC remains without a point heading into the start of its Philippines Football League campaign this weekend.

Lo Celso set to spark Real Betis heading into El Gran Derbi

Gio Lo Celso

Heading into the El Gran Derbi this weekend against Sevilla FC, Real Betis will need another excellent effort from one of their key transfers this past window.

Giovani Lo Celso has filled in the hole left by the departure of Nabil Fekir for the Los Verdiblancos quite nicely. His return to LALIGA sees him score five goals in his five appearances, and with Isco currently sidelined, the midfielder has ably taken on the additional responsibilities.

Manuel Pellegrini seems to have given the Argentine international free reign to roam and direct attacks, controlling the game and dictating the rhythm and flow. In their matchup against RCD Espanyol, he scored the game-winner late to snatch the three points and keep themselves within distance of the top contenders.

Real Betis have yet to win at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in the last six years, and they hope that with Lo Celso in tow, this feat can be checked off the list.

The match is scheduled to take place early Monday morning, with Filipino football fans able to watch it through beIN Sports Connect.

MATCHES SUNDAY

4:00 PM – Mendiola FC 1991 vs. Dynamic Herb Cebu FC

7:00 PM – Manila Digger FC vs. One Taguig FC

After months of anticipation, the Philippines Football League season 2024-2025 begins this weekend of 28 and 29 September 2024 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Spots for the AFC Champions League Two and the ASEAN Club Championship, currently called the Shopee Cup, are on the line for this season, which will determine its champions through a double round robin and a Finals Series featuring the top four teams.

Defending champions Kaya FC-Iloilo seek to retain their title against nine other squads, two of which will be jumpstarting the season at 7pm Saturday night.

Maharlika FC finished in ninth place last season, and is set to reshuffle its deck with the departure of the likes of Lucas Del Rosario. MJ Libre is set to lead Anton del Rosario's community club alongside Jorrel Aristorenas and Marvin Angeles.

They will go up against Stallion Laguna, who wants another crack at the title and continental play after falling short of it last time out with a third-place finish. Capping the action for the weekend is the matchup between Manila Digger and One Taguig. Both teams took advantage of the offseason to make major build-ups to their squads, with Giap Bongolan joining  the former fresh from helping the University of the Philippines reclaim the UAAP championship, while also relying on the steady presence of Jim Ashley Flores and Eric Giganto.

The latter, on the other hand, made headlines by securing the transfers of the likes of Daisuke Sato, Carlie de Murga, Oliver Bias, and Simen Lyngbo, among others, as they hope to break the stranglehold Kaya FC has in the league.

beIN locks in LALIGA rights in Philippines, others

LaLiga

The Philippines will not have to make a switch when it comes to watching the best clubs in Spain.

beIN Media Group announced this week that has entered into an agreement with LALIGA, ensuring that beIN Sports will remain as the home of Spanish football until 2026-27 in the Asia-Pacific (including the Philippines).

The group has held the rights for LALIGA since 2015 in the region.

In making the announcement, beIN Media Group CEO Yousef Al-Obaidly shares, "We are delighted to extend our contract with LALIGA with two significant multi-year deals across 34 countries. As long-term, committed partners of LALIGA, we are proud to help Spanish football grow worldwide through our world-class broadcasting and our significant and dependable investment. This major deal is further testament to beIN’s considered and consistent strategy to deliver growth as one of the leading sports, entertainment and media groups in the world."

LALIGA President Javier Tebas adds, "At LALIGA we always look for best-in-class partners to deliver Spanish football to fans everywhere. Our relationship with beIN has been essential for us in order to ensure people in MENA and APAC regions to be able to enjoy a unique competition as LALIGA to the fullest. We are sure that the next seasons are going to be unparalleled ones for our fans across the region."

The season commences on August 15, and includes a bunch of interesting storylines, with Real Madrid hoping to successfully retain their title, doing so with their newest signing Kylian Mbappé. FC Barcelona has a new manager in tow with Hansi Flick, and last year's surprise side Girona seeking to improve on their run as they make their Champions League debut.

beIN will have rights to all 380 matches, including the two ELCLÁSICO meetings of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Some of the stars of the recent-played Euros and Olympics also play in LALIGA, including the likes of Nico Williams, Martin Zubimendi, and Dani Olmo, among others.

In addition to the broadcast deal, both groups are also partners in addressing audiovisual fraud, having worked on blocking illegal streaming sites as well as taking down an illegal IPTV service in the Middle East, as well as periodic administrative blockades with their partners in Indonesia and Malaysia.

They also will continue to work closely in the fight against piracy and addressing trends.

LALIGA set for kickoff with renewed fight vs racism

LALIGA returns

With LALIGA set to resume both first and second division action on August 15, the league reaffirms its commitment to the fight against racism.

For the first three matchdays of the season, both LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION will have activities connected with the LALIGA VS RACISM campaign, highlighting and raising awareness about the need to combat racial discrimination.

Captains of all 42 LALIGA clubs will be wearing a special LALIGA VS RACISM armband, while all the stadia will have signage and posters detailing how fans can report racist acts and where to send them. These clubs will also have materials they can use to raise awareness towards their respective fanbases, through perimeter UTVs, video scoreboards and the anthem against racism which was launched last season.

The Spanish top-flight has been in the trenches in trying to address hatred and discrimination in football, acknowledging that it can be a strong platform to amplify the fight. On its end, it has developed its own platform to address this situation, called LALIGA VS, with the idea of promoting a respectful and inclusive society.

A variety of initiatives have been establish to address the problem, from a week against racism in partnership with EA SPORTS, to the launch of MOOD, an independent tool for monitoring conversation around sport on social media, which analyses these conversations to increase visibility and raise awareness. LALIGA has also engaged in legal actions, including the first conviction due to racist insults in a Spanish football stadium, which LALIGA filed before the courts.

Philippine Air Force stuns Tuloy FC to secure first win

c/o Romeo Martinez

The elusive first victory in their return to top-flight club football finally arrived for Philippine Air Force FC.

Needing four matches, it finally happened on Sunday night, as they emerged as 2-1 winners against Tuloy FC.

Ronald Macasinag opened scoring in the 21st minute for the Airmen, with a composed finish into the bottom right hand corner past Tuloy keeper Archie Pabelliar.

Jed Delariarte doubled the lead for Air Force twenty minutes later, converting one from close range.

The second half saw Tuloy produce plenty of scoring opportunities, but Zaldy Abraham proved ready to prevent those shots from moving past his line. One of those was the UST alumnus parrying a Syrn Saut free kick with twenty minutes remaining in the match.

Tuloy would finally pull one back in the 87th minute thanks to John Lloyd Jalique, but they were unable to find the equalizer in time.

Erwin Oro shared post-match, "Ang pinagpa-praktisan namin, lumabas, nagamit namin ang mga tactics namin." He also praised the leadership of captain Glenn Bulaquina, noting that "Pinatapang niya ang team."

Air Force seeks to capitalize on this momentum in their upcoming matchup this weekend against Maharlika on May 5 before flying out to Iloilo to face Kaya FC on May 8.

Air Force seeks first win in PFL against Tuloy

c/o Matchday Media

With nary a win so far in the Philippines Football League, Air Force seeks to claim it on Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, hopeful that their matchup against Tuloy FC would bear that fruit.

Kick-off has been moved to 9:00 pm as a result of the earlier matches scheduled that day moved later due to the prevailing heat conditions in the country.

Although suffering two tough defeats to Mendiola FC 1991 and One Taguig FC, the Airmen did manage to make things difficult against a fellow league returnee in United City FC.

Jan Delariarte's header from twelve yards out allowed PAF to score their first goal of the campaign, a bright spot in their 4-1 defeat.

Serving as Air Force's foil in this Sunday's quest for an inaugural victory is a Tuloy side that has a built an impressive following with their style of play. Anchoring their offense are the duo of John Jalique and Harry Nunez, with the latter having been called up for national team duty.

Air Force seeks PFL redemption against One Taguig

c/o Pat Reyes

Air Force seeks to bounce back when it takes on One Taguig FC when the Philippines Football League resumes action this weekend.

The Airmen take on OTFC to kick off Saturday action at 3pm, fresh from a 7-0 battering by Mendiola, whilst Taguig is coming off a 4-1 victory over newcomers Manila Montet FC on Sunday night.

Even with the lopsided defeat, the squad remains in good spirits. They managed to have chances to break through against Mendiola, although they were unable to convert.

Stephen Obero and Karl Bronda both threatened the Mendiola goal in the first half. A few minutes before half time, Jed Delariarte nearly scored off a free kick only to see the ball hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Jan Estampador sent a shot inches over the bar, and Jan Delariarte, Jed’s brother, also had shots on goal as did substitute Jomar Lestingio, who forced a save from the Mendiola goalkeeper.

The outcome could have been worse, but keeper Zaldy Abraham managed a few class saves, including a leaping parry to deny Mendiola striker Seyedsajad Mohebizadeh.

Erwin Oro, who shares coaching responsibilities with Joebel Bermejo, shares, "Mataas pa rin ang morale ng mga bata. We are working hard sa training to make adjustments sa next game against Taguig."

Air Force will be tangling against a One Taguig side that is newcomer "in name" only. A lineup that features a few familiar names in Kevin Ingreso, Stephan Schroeck, Arnel Amita, Jordan Jarvis, Yrick Gallantes, and Quincy Kammeraad, among others, they defeated their fellow newcomers on Sunday night, although it took them a while to break through.

The match is set for streaming both on the league website, as well as through its Youtube channel. Tickets available via TicketMax or at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, with the Grandstand costing PhP 150.

You can check out more updates from the team through its Facebook page.

Air Force set for return to competitive club football

c/o PAF

When the Philippines Football League opens its campaign on Saturday, one of the games scheduled will feature the comeback of a historic club onto the competitive scene.

At 530pm, Philippine Air Force FC kicks off against Mendiola FC 1991 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

A purely homegrown unit devoid of foreigners, the Airmen will rely on a combination of experienced veterans and up-and-coming youngsters, coached by Joebel Bermejo.

Serving as the team captain is Barotac Nuevo native Antonio Albor, alongside fellow veterans Romeo Martinez, Glenn Bulaquina, Rodolfo Bebanco, Jake Hugo, Jomar Lestingio, and Geve Roy Cadiz.

Adding fresh blood to the side are a few alumni of the University of Santo Tomas in Zaldy Abraham, Darwin Busmion, and Karl Bronda.

Most of the team are enlisted personnel, but they have added a few civilians with the vision that they would eventually join the Air Force. Among them are the Delariarte brothers: Jed who plays up front, and Jan, who plies his trade in the midfield. Jev Estampador provides an imposing presence, while youth is served with the likes of Kernelle John Velasco, Kent Guevarra, Eric Mauring, and Patrick Salenga.

Bermejo believes that Air Force has something to prove in this upcoming competition.

To prepare for their return, the squad claimed the Jerry Treñas Dinagyang Cup back in January, and also finished runners-up in a tournament featuring the Armed Forces sides and other government agencies back in October.

After playing Mendiola, Air Force is slated to face these teams for the rest of the month at Rizal Memorial: One Taguig FC (13), United City (21), and Tuloy FC (28).

Plans are in place for the team to travel to Iloilo next month for a true road matchup against Kaya FC-Iloilo.

Helping boost the team is major sponsor Elan Vita Diagnostic Solutions of Engr. Keith Buyco, while also being fully supported by Philippine Air Force Commanding General Lieutenant General Stephen P. Parreño.

Acting as team manager is Brigadier General Dennis Estrella and assisted by Colonel Erwin G. Solomon, with Lieutenant Colonel Neil P. Dela Cruz serving as the officer-in-charge.
