UST forces winner-take-all in softball semifinal

Game Sunday at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium: 9 a.m. – UP vs UST

There will be a winner-take-all between University of Santo Tomas and the University of the Philippines on Sunday.

The Tiger Softbelles defeated their Maroon counterparts, 7-2, on Friday to secure a rematch at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium, with the winner tasked to overcome the thrice-to-beat disadvantage against Adamson.

A four-run first inning set the tone for UST, then padded that with three more runs in the sixth inning. The ladies of head coach Sandy Barredo made sure to keep their errors to a minimum, as those miscues cost them the win in their playoff for the second-seed last Sunday. That defeat was the lone loss for the Tiger Softbelles in the last seven matches.

Anne Antolihao had a no-hitter going for four innings, while Kris Lacupa got on base with three hits, scoring twice. Mallows Garde and Christine Palma each had two RBIs.
